Chapter 4

Author: Charming Fries
The images from my death in my past life flashed before my eyes again.

He'd held a wolfsbane-laced dagger just like that, looked at me with that same hatred, told me I'd driven Sophia away, told me I deserved to die.

This life — he hadn't even bothered to investigate before pinning every crime on me.

I laughed. Laughed until my eyes burned red.

"Theodore, you never change. You only ever believe what you want to believe."

"Seraphina!" His gaze cut like a blade. "Don't try to change the subject. The wolfsbane in Sophia's system is incurable — only Moon Goddess's Pure Blood can suppress and purify it."

My pupils contracted.

He knew about my bloodline.

Moon Goddess's Pure Blood was a gift the Moon Goddess had bestowed upon the diviner lineage. Our blood could suppress wolfsbane and heal any fatal wound.

But if a Pure Blood bearer lost too much, their divination gift would weaken — and their life would shorten.

Theodore knew all of this. He didn't care.

I'd thought I was past hurting. But the pain still ripped through my chest like a wound torn fresh.

There was a time when I'd merely scraped my finger and Theodore had gone red-eyed with worry, dragging the best witch to my bedside in the middle of the night.

And now —

Theodore fixed me with a stare. His tone left zero room for argument.

"You're coming to the infirmary with me. I need your blood to save Sophia."

Wolf guards stormed in before I could respond, bound me, and dragged me to the infirmary. They strapped me to a chair.

The witch pushed a needle into my arm. Blood flowed out in a steady stream.

At 200 milliliters, my face went pale.

At 400, my limbs turned to water. The room spun. My vision blurred.

At 600, everything went black.

When I woke, I was lying in a bed. Theodore sat beside me.

For once, he actually looked worn down.

A flash of relief crossed his eyes when he saw me awake.

"Seraphina, how do you feel?"

"You've been out for a day and a night. Good thing you didn't miss tonight's banquet."

I knew perfectly well — tonight was when the Alpha would announce his heir.

When I didn't respond, he shifted uncomfortably.

"Seraphina, it's not too late to get back on my good side. No matter how skilled your divinations are, you still need the Blood Moon Pack to survive."

I scoffed.

Theodore seemed to have forgotten — he was never the Alpha's only option.

But I was the Blood Moon Pack's only diviner.

If diviners weren't forbidden from reading their own fates, I'd never have been fooled by his tenderness in my past life.

My silence clearly irritated him. Anger flickered in his eyes.

"Fine, Seraphina. You really are stubborn."

"I'll be waiting for you to come crawling back. And when you do, I'll make you kneel — and hand your divination skills over to Sophia."

He turned and left.

Night fell. Over a dozen wolf guards — tall, imposing, silver-etched scimitars slung across their hips — flanked the great hall.

The instant Evander and I walked in, every eye in the room bounced between me and Theodore, who was already there. Amusement rippled through the crowd.

Theodore's head snapped toward me. His eyes could've set me on fire.

He actually walked away from Sophia and came straight at me.

"I can't believe you'd stoop so low — parading around with a bastard just to get my attention."

Sophia chimed in immediately, her voice sickly sweet: "Wow, Seraphina — interesting taste. I hear Evander's been through half the she-wolves in the pack. He must be really good in bed. Watch your health, sweetheart."

Crude laughter erupted around us. A few young wolves even whistled.

Theodore leaned in close, his voice a low hiss: "After tonight, you'll come begging."

Just then, a deep horn sounded.

The Alpha strode in from outside the hall, leaning on his fang scepter.

I eased my hand away, keeping my expression blank, and looked at him.His eyes were shot through with red. The old arrogance was gone — replaced by obsession and the bitter venom of a man stripped of everything."Seraphina, I don't understand. You loved me to the bone. Why did you — and Father — both choose that bastard?""Let's make a bet. Whether he wins in the end. Whether he can find you."I stared him down, each word deliberate:"Theodore, you will never beat Evander. Not in this lifetime."He sneered and slammed the door behind him. After the kidnapping, Theodore had forced a scent-blocking potion down my throat. But he'd forgotten — I was never the type to sit and wait to be rescued.Having lived through one life already, this time I'd hidden a tracker on my body.I pulled it out and sent my location to Evander. The next morning — bang. The basement door flew open. Sophia. Her once-glossy golden curls were caked with dust. Scratches lined her face. She stared at me, unhinged."T

"Theodore — I haven't lost my mind, and I haven't mixed anyone up!"The boom of the scepter silenced Theodore instantly. The Alpha's gaze settled on Evander, approval clear in his expression."Seraphina's family has guarded the Blood Moon Pack for generations. Seraphina herself has saved me from hunters more times than I can count. Without them, this pack wouldn't exist as it does today.""I asked her to divine the best candidate for my heir. She gave me a surprising answer — but after my own tests, I found that Evander is indeed the strongest choice.""Theodore, you're capable. But you're too arrogant, and your judgment in people leaves much to be desired."Theodore's face drained of color. He whipped toward me, a sliver of desperate hope still in his eyes. "Seraphina — you're still angry about the bracelet, aren't you? So you fed Father a false reading. Right?"I let a thin, humorless smile pull at my lips. "The divination pointed to Evander.""From this day forward, he is my mate —

I was about to head toward the Alpha when Evander suddenly caught my hand. The tips of his ears — on a man who was always ice-calm — had gone red."Seraphina, don't be afraid. No matter what happens, I'll make sure you're happy."I couldn't help but smile.Moments later, at the Beta's direction, Evander and Theodore ended up standing side by side.Theodore caught Evander in his peripheral vision. A thread of unease stirred in his chest — though he couldn't explain why.I stood at the Alpha's side, eyes lowered, looking at no one."I'm sure you all know why I've called you here."One short sentence, and every wolf in the hall locked their gaze on Theodore, envy written plainly on their faces. Everyone knew he was the Alpha's favorite."But first, I'd like to announce something. I've chosen a mate for Seraphina from among you."The Alpha took my hand with a smile. Before he could name anyone, disgust surfaced on Theodore's face and he blurted out: "Father, the one I love is Sophia."I sm

It was Evander. The Alpha's eldest son.A sharp crack — and Theodore let out a strangled groan. Cold sweat instantly beaded on his forehead."Evander, you dare lay a hand on me!"Evander stepped in front of me. He glanced at the cuts on my face, and his expression turned savage. The violent aura rolling off him made Sophia shrink behind Theodore on instinct.I didn't want to deal with Theodore anymore. I tugged lightly on Evander's arm and murmured, "Let him go."A flicker of reluctance crossed Evander's face, but he released his grip.Theodore glared with vicious eyes. "What is he doing here?"*He's my future mate. Of course he's here.*Besides, we still needed to discuss the mating ceremony on the next full moon. But I wasn't about to explain that to Theodore."The Alpha sent for him," I said coolly. I stood frozen, staring blankly at the fragments scattered across the floor. I didn't even register the cuts on my face from the flying shards.Theodore stepped closer, his boot grinding over the broken pieces."Seraphina, how could you be so clumsy? Can't even catch a simple bracelet."I looked up and met his cold, predatory eyes. The malice in them nearly drowned me. This was his punishment — for daring to snap at Sophia.I was shaking with rage."Theodore, aren't you afraid of what the Alpha will say?"His smirk faltered. The Alpha valued my divinations. If I reported this, even Theodore wouldn't escape punishment."It's just a bracelet. I'll buy you a dozen new ones."Pure condescension dripped from every word."Don't bother." My voice was flat. "Get out."Maybe he finally realized I was serious. Theodore ran his fingers through his silver hair, irritated. That's when Sophia crept forward, all timid and trembling, and sank to her knees in front of me."Seraphina, this is all my fau
