Chapter 2

Auteur: Blossom Mane
As he spoke, Michael reached out casually and patted my head. "You've really matured now, Sierra. You're acting like a proper noblewoman now."

He was praising me like I was some kind of pet.

A wave of nausea rolled through me. Back when his affair was first exposed, I had practically turned the whole city upside down. I'd flipped tables in public and made him end up in the hospital 15 times just from smashing wine bottles over his head.

I had humiliated him more times than I could count through media coverage and the countless scenes I’d made, yet he never changed.

Each time, all he would say to me was, "Go out and look around. Is there any man in this circle who doesn't have a few women on the side? Yes, I'm sleeping around with other women, but it's not like I'm kicking you to the curb!"

He'd also said more than once, "No matter how many women I have, you'll always be my wife."

It wasn't until the day my dad died that I finally woke up for good. After that, I spent the next three years being blind and deaf to Michael's affairs.

And now, I'd gotten one line of praise for my efforts. "You're acting like a proper noblewoman now."

Over these three years, I'd stopped interfering in anything Michael did. To him, I might as well have been air. Even now, when our son Finn Riverson was two, he had no idea I'd given him a son.

The day I almost died giving birth because of complications, Michael had been out on the street with Lucy, helping her sell hot dogs from a food stand. He'd told me it was because he was crazy in love with how "real" she was—that she wasn't materialistic and had made her own way by the sweat of her brow.

All I'd done was let out a cold, quiet laugh without saying a single word.

In my heart, Michael was long dead.

On my mother-in-law's birthday, I only planned to show my face, play the part of the dutiful daughter-in-law, then slip out.

But when I walked in with my gift, the first thing I saw was Michael and Lucy standing on either side of my mother-in-law, Helena Green, front and center.

Helena was beaming as she chatted with her friends.

"Mrs. Grant Senior, your hair looks beautiful today. With that dress, you look so elegant."

Helena's hair did look better than before, pinned up with a retro, elegant hairpin. She smiled gently and patted the back of Lucy's hand with clear approval. "It was my daughter-in-law who did my hair. She's got such a knack for this."

So she had accepted Lucy, too.

Lucy smiled, all grace and poise as she said, "As long as you like it, Mom."

Michael said, "Mom adores you. She's told me that many times. It's our family's honor to have you as a daughter-in-law."

I sneered to myself, not wanting to stay another second. Just as I turned to leave, Lucy's voice rang out behind me. "Sierra."

Her tone was light and cheerful, deliberately making everyone think we were on great terms.

I stopped, turned back calmly, and gave a faint smile. A flicker of surprise crossed her eyes. She must've expected me to look furious or even lose control, humiliate Helena, and storm out. She definitely hadn't expected me to be this calm and unbothered.

"Sierra, you look gorgeous today," she said warmly, acting like we were close.

"Thank you." I smiled and played along.

I wasn't going to waste any more time and effort on her. All those hostile little jabs she so carefully staged were, to me, completely pointless now.

Helena looked at me and said casually, "You two should get along well with each other. Stay with me and help greet the guests."

My mind suddenly replayed what she'd once said to me. "From now on, I'll treat you like you're my own daughter. I'll love you like my own. If Michael dares to cheat on you, I'll be the first to punish him."

Her words were still as clear as if she'd said them just yesterday. But now, she was the one who was making things unbearably humiliating for me.

She lightly patted the back of my hand and whispered, "Sierra, Lucy is a good woman. She's different from those other women before."

I smiled faintly and lied, "You're absolutely right, Mom."

I was leaving soon, anyway. Nothing here mattered to me anymore.

Helena smiled with relief. "I'm so glad you've come around."

She lifted her gaze to Michael and said, "See? I told you Sierra is a reasonable, understanding person."

He looked at me with satisfaction and approval, saying proudly, "That's because I trained her well."

What did he think I was? A pet?

In the past, I would've utterly destroyed this birthday party. But now, I wouldn't waste a shred of emotion or energy on people who weren't worth it.

Michael's eyes were bloodshot and vicious, like he wanted to eat someone alive. In a burst of rage, he kicked Lucy hard, sending her crashing to the floor. She fell with a loud thud and let out a piercing scream. Her face twisted in pain as she clutched her belly and wailed, "My… My stomach… It hurts so bad…"She reached out helplessly to Michael, still holding on to one last shred of hope. "Michael, please… Save our baby! I'm begging you!"Michael didn't waver in the slightest. He broke down and lashed out at her. "You were just acting from the start! Fine by me if you wanted to fake it, but why did you have to try to kill my son? You're a vicious, cold-blooded woman. You don't deserve to carry my child!"The police immediately helped Lucy up and led her away. Fresh blood pooled on the white floor beneath her. With every step she took, the trail of blood followed. Her snow-white gown was soaked with large red splotches. Her face was ashen from the pain; she couldn't even get a fu

I walked right up to Michael, holding my phone up for the livestream as I spoke. In the span of a few seconds, his expression went from thunderstruck to devastated by the truth to guilt so heavy that his eyes turned red.I slapped the paternity test results against his chest. "If you don't believe me, you can get another test done.""I believe you, I do. I'm sorry, Sierra. I really didn't know things were like this." He apologized, fawning and remorseful, guilt filling his eyes. "Why didn't you tell me the truth? I know I'm a jerk, but Finn is innocent. He needs his father. I never imagined things would end up like this."I snorted, my tone as cold as ice. "For the past three years, I've left you alone and ignored you because, to me, you were dead. You can only be that generous and indifferent when you don't love someone anymore. I gave up on you a long time ago, Michael."The only reason I waited so long to divorce you is that when we got married, our parents agreed that if anyone

Michael rented out a grand hotel to celebrate his third anniversary with Lucy. At the same time, I started a livestream online. I titled it, "Michael Grant Burns His Own Son to Death to Please His Mistress".I was already a trending name online, so it didn't take long for the livestream to attract people who wanted to lap up the drama. The comments flooded in."Wait, Michael has a kid?""When did you have the baby?""Didn't the Grants put it out there that you can't have children?"I didn't answer that right away. Instead, I said, "Since everyone is so eager to know whether I'm telling the truth, let's start by taking a look at some surveillance footage."With that, I started playing the video. In it, Lucy took advantage of the villa's emptiness to splash alcohol everywhere. Then, she deliberately set off some fireworks indoors. With a few loud bangs, the sparks dropped right into the alcohol, instantly igniting a fire. She smiled, all smug satisfaction, and her voice came throu

I was so infuriated that I let out a self-deprecating laugh. I couldn't believe I was talking to the man I'd once loved with my whole heart.Back in our freshman year, Michael had fallen for me at first sight. He'd launched this over-the-top, relentless pursuit of me. He'd chased me from freshman year all the way to senior year. The only reason I finally said yes was because of what happened in our senior year. The girls' dorm had caught fire, and he'd thought I was trapped inside. He'd rushed in without a second thought and almost lost his life. I hadn't expected him to be so in love with me. Little by little, I'd fallen for him. When we finally got together, Michael had been completely devoted to me. Whatever I'd wanted, he'd done. He'd spoiled me rotten.Who would've known that after just one year of marriage, he would start cheating on me? He'd had one affair after another and slowly turned into the person I despised the most. And now, despite Finn's life hanging by a thread,

"Mommy, it hurts. It hurts so much…" Finn suddenly slumped forward in my arms, his head collapsing against my neck. He passed out while I was still talking to him."I'm taking you to the hospital right now." I shook him by the shoulder, only then realizing that a whole section of it had been blown open by the explosion. It was a mangled mess of flesh and blood. My heart felt like it was being shredded. I didn't even bother dealing with the police anymore and rushed Finn to the hospital. The doctor said that Finn's skin was infected and that he'd suffered blast injuries. The shrapnel had missed his heart by a hair. They managed to save him, but he was in critical condition and needed to stay in the ICU for observation. My heart lodged itself in my throat all over again. I stared at Finn's tiny figure through the glass, my heart aching badly as I wished I could take his suffering for him."It looks like you really loved that asshole you cheated with."Michael's voice, as cold and s

Hope flared in my chest. I turned around and saw Finn standing there, covered in ash, his clothes singed and torn. I ran over in joy and surprise, dropped into a half-crouch, and wrapped him in a tight hug.Michael looked like he'd been struck by lightning. He stared in disbelief at Finn, who was a smaller version of himself.A flash of irritation flickered in Lucy's eyes, but she quickly composed herself and feigned shock. "This is…"Michael strode over, grabbed my arm, and demanded anxiously, "Is this my son? Our son?"I yanked my arm out of his grip in disgust. "He's not yours. He's mine, and mine alone!"From the day Finn was born, I'd considered Michael dead. He would never be worthy of being my son's father. That was why I hadn't listed Michael as the father and why Finn had taken my surname, Riverson.Finn had never met Michael and thought I was being bullied. Furious, he shoved at Michael with his dirty little hands. "Don't bully my mommy!"He lifted his head as he shout
