Nobody moved.

King Alaric stood in the doorway.

A black crown rested on his head.

It looked ancient, older than Lunaris itself. Dark lines ran across its surface like cracks in stone, and a faint red glow pulsed from the center.

Lyra stared at her father.

“No…”

Alaric lowered his eyes.

“I didn’t want you to find out this way.”

Karl stepped in front of Lyra.

“Take that crown off.”

Alaric looked at him.

“You don’t understand what you’re asking.”

Lucien raised his weapon.

“Then explain.”

Alaric slowly stepped into the chamber.

“I am the bearer of the Blood Crown.”

Lyra’s heart sank.

“But you’re my father.”

“I am.”

“You were imprisoned for twenty-one years.”

“Yes.”

“You fought the Blood King.”

“Yes.”

Lyra’s voice trembled.

“Then why are you wearing his crown?”

Alaric looked toward the floor.

“Because someone had to.”

A silence followed.

Master Thorne stepped forward.

“The Blood Crown isn’t a symbol of the Blood King’s power.”

Alaric nodded.

“It is the prison.”

Everyone stared at him.

“The Blood King cannot fully enter this world while the crown remains bound to a living vessel,” Alaric explained.

Lyra looked at him in disbelief.

“And that vessel is you?”

“For twenty-one years.”

Caelan stepped forward.

“I tried to take it from him.”

Alaric looked at his brother.

“And nearly released the Blood King.”

Caelan’s face fell.

“I didn’t know.”

“You weren’t supposed to.”

Lyra looked between them.

“So all those years…”

She struggled to finish.

“My father wasn’t being imprisoned by the Blood King.”

Alaric shook his head.

“I was keeping him imprisoned.”

The realization hit Lyra harder than anything else.

She had spent years believing her father was a victim.

But he had been holding back something far more dangerous.

The ground suddenly shook.

The crown began glowing brighter.

Alaric fell to one knee.

Karl rushed forward.

“What’s happening?”

Alaric clenched his fists.

“He knows you’re here.”

“Who?”

“The Blood King.”

A deep voice echoed beneath the chamber.

“ALAAAAARIC.”

Everyone froze.

Alaric slowly stood.

“Stay away from my daughter.”

The voice laughed.

“You still call her your daughter?”

Lyra felt the Heart inside her pulse.

The voice continued.

“She is my heir.”

Lyra stepped forward.

“No.”

The chamber trembled.

“You carry my blood.”

Lyra’s eyes narrowed.

“I carry my mother’s heart.”

The voice became colder.

“You carry both.”

The black crown suddenly cracked.

Alaric grabbed his head.

“Get back!”

A wave of dark energy spread through the chamber.

Karl grabbed Lyra’s hand.

“Lyra!”

She stood her ground.

The Heart inside her began shining.

The Ring of Unity responded.

Then something unexpected happened.

The black crown stopped glowing.

Alaric looked up.

Lyra’s silver light had reached him.

His eyes returned to their normal color.

The darkness around him disappeared.

Master Thorne whispered,

“The Heart recognizes the Blood Crown.”

Lyra looked at her father.

“Then maybe it can free you.”

Alaric shook his head.

“If you remove the crown without replacing the seal, the Blood King will be released.”

Lyra looked toward the ancient symbols on the floor.

“Then I’ll replace it.”

Everyone stared at her.

“You can’t,” Lucien said.

“Why?”

“Because the Blood Crown requires a sacrifice.”

Lyra went still.

“What kind?”

Alaric’s expression broke.

“The life of the person who wears it.”

Karl immediately shook his head.

“No.”

Lyra looked at him.

“Karl”

“No.”

His voice was firm.

“We’ve already lost too many people.”

Alaric stepped forward.

“You don’t have to sacrifice yourself.”

Lyra looked at him.

“Then who does?”

Alaric removed the crown.

The moment it left his head, the chamber began collapsing.

Darkness poured through the cracks.

Alaric looked at Lyra.

“I do.”

“Father!”

He placed the crown on the ancient altar.

“I have carried it for twenty-one years.”

He smiled sadly.

“And I will carry it for as long as it takes.”

Lyra rushed toward him.

But before she could reach him, a silver light appeared between them.

Her mother.

Evelina’s spirit stood inside the chamber.

She looked at Alaric.

“You promised me you’d come back.”

Alaric’s eyes filled with emotion.

“I tried.”

Evelina smiled.

“You kept your promise.”

Then she turned toward Lyra.

“Now it’s your turn.”

Lyra stared at her mother.

“What promise?”

Evelina raised her hand.

The silver pendant around Lyra’s neck began glowing.

A hidden door opened behind the altar.

Beyond it was a staircase descending into darkness.

Evelina whispered:

“Find the Blood Crown’s true keeper.”

Lyra looked at the staircase.

“Who is it?”

Her mother’s image began fading.

“Your brother.”

Lyra froze.

“My… brother?”

Evelina smiled.

Then she disappeared.

At the same moment, the staircase illuminated.

At the bottom stood a young man Lyra had never seen before.

He had Alaric’s eyes.

Evelina’s silver mark.

And a black crown engraved across his chest.

The stranger looked up.

“Lyra.”

Everyone stood frozen.

He smiled.

“I’ve been waiting for you.”

And behind him, something ancient opened its eyes.
