The ride to the clinic was suffocating. I pressed my forehead against the window the entire way. Adriano sat beside me, far too close in the back seat of the car, his cologne threading into the air.

He tried to talk, little things, soft questions, attempts to smooth over what couldn’t be smoothed. “Did you eat something?” “Do you feel dizzy still?” “Do you want me to slow things down for you?”

I didn’t answer. My mouth stayed glued shut, jaw locked until it ached. I didn’t even blink in his direction.

By the time we stepped inside, my hands were trembling, not from nerves or excitement, but fear and anger lived too close in my veins now. I checked in, gave my name, smiled politely at the receptionist while Adriano loomed behind me like some shadow I couldn’t escape from.

When the nurse called us in, I lay down on the crisp paper-covered exam table, the gown loose around me. Adriano took the chair to the side, leaning forward, elbows on his knees, w

What if he ends up shot or knifed or in a terrible accident…would that make her feel anything for Adriano again? I think she is being too cruel to him.

Madeleine 𓎢𓎠𑄻𑄾𓎠𓎡 The nurse had guided me into a small consultation room, and now it was just me, a metal desk, a rolling chair, and the doctor, a woman with kind eyes that made it harder, not easier, to sit here. She looked at the chart in her hands, then at me. “So, Madeleine… you’re about five weeks along, correct?” My throat felt tight, “Yes. The ultrasound showed... something. The tech didn’t say much. Just this little—” my voice cracked, and I hated it—“flutter. Was that… was that the heartbeat?” The doctor set the chart aside and folded her hands, “At five weeks, what we sometimes see is what’s called cardiac activity. It’s not a developed heart yet, it’s more a cluster of cells beginning to send electrical impulses. Some people call it a heartbeat, but medically, it isn’t the same as a fully formed heart. That develops later.” My fingers twisted in my lap. “So… it’s not… it’s not really a baby yet?” She leaned forward slightly. “It’s an embryo. Very early. No organ

Madeleine 𓎢𓎠𑄻𑄾𓎠𓎡 I scanned the estate, searching for Flan. I hadn’t seen him since this morning. Heading to the living room, I found him curled up on the floor with Luna. “There you two are…” I murmured, crouching beside them. Alessia was already in the room, and Claire was perched on the couch, tense. The moment she spotted me, she let out a sharp sigh and started to rise. But Alessia moved first, her hand snapping toward Claire’s arm, “Stay.” Claire hesitated, caught mid-motion, and I could see the tension in her expression. “I’ll leave…” I said softly, scooping both cats into my arms, arms tightening around Flan and Luna as if holding onto them would make everything less tense. “No. You’re not going anywhere either,” Alessia said, her hand shot out toward me, palm up, “Come here.” I froze, staring at her hand. The cats squirmed slightly against me. Finally, I set Flan and Luna down on the floor, murmuring a soft, “Be good,” and stepped toward her. Alessia pulled b

Madeleine 𓎢𓎠𑄻𑄾𓎠𓎡 The sour burn ripped up my throat before I even had a chance to breathe. I doubled over the toilet, my hair sticking to my damp cheeks as another wave of nausea wrung my body out like a rag. My knees ached against the cold tile, my chest heaving, stomach clenching until there was nothing left but bile and broken sobs spilling from me. A knock rattled the door, “Madeleine,” he called, his voice panicked, “Open the door.” The sound scraped against my raw nerves like sandpaper. I shut my eyes, my whole body felt hollowed out, but rage simmered under the weakness. “I’m fine,” I croaked, though my voice broke halfway through. I wasn’t fine. I was curled on the floor puking my guts out. Another knock, “You don’t sound fine. Let me in.” The toilet swam in my vision, blurred by tears I hated myself for crying. I gagged, spat, coughed until my throat felt raw. He hadn’t twisted me up so bad I couldn’t even tell which parts of my love for him had been rea

  • I Saved the Mafia Boss—Now I'm His Obsession.    Chapter 120 - Had I been that stupid?

Madeleine 𓎢𓎠𑄻𑄾𓎠𓎡 I dragged in a shaky breath and leaned my head against the window. The city blurred past, storefronts, neon signs, strangers wrapped up in their own lives, all of them safer than me. My chest hurt with the thought that one of them could be free enough to just… walk into a café and order a drink without worrying if their husband’s men had already swept the place. My thumb finally tapped the keys before I could lose my nerve. Me: There’s a place I used to go to sometimes. Little café near my old apartment. Harbor Lane Coffeehouse. The dots appeared almost instantly. He was there, waiting, watching the way Adriano always seemed to. Him: Perfect. The thought of you sitting there, waiting for me, is enough to make my pulse bleed out of me. I swallowed hard, thumbs trembling. Me: I’m scared. Another instant reply. Him: Don't be. It's just me. My throat tightened. My eyes flicked again to the driver. His gaze glued to the road. He didn’t know. He couldn’t

  • I Saved the Mafia Boss—Now I'm His Obsession.    Chapter 119 - Pretty little performances

Adriano ⫘☠︎︎⫘ I knew I was digging my own grave, six feet down and grinning while I did it, but I couldn’t stop. The high was too sweet, too fucked up. Anger and amusement curled together inside me, venom and fire, twisting like smoke in my lungs. I was sprawled out on the guest bed, one arm tucked under my head, the other clutching the phone that might as well have been her throat, her pulse, her entire soul bleeding through the line. And she was there, my beautiful wife lying in our bed, in my sheets, talking soft and shaky to a man she thought was a stranger. A savior who might scoop her up and carry her away from the monster she married. Except the joke was on her. She didn’t know the man she whispered to, the number she trusted, the lifeline she clung to in the dark... it was me. Always me. I built that lie. I slid into her life wearing another man’s skin, let her bleed her fears out into my hands, and she fucking gave them to me. And now, she was running to me... from me.
