Chapter 5

Author: Reneemoon
His eyes were full of blame and disappointment as he looked at me.

I sat up against the bed, my voice level and calm.

"I'm your owner, and I'm Vivian's employer. What I do is my call. You've got no standing to lecture me, and even less to demand an apology."

Lucien's face darkened further.

"Fine. You're getting more unreasonable by the day. Then we'll see who breaks first. Two days, tops, and you'll come crawling back to beg me."

He turned like he was leaving, but his feet wouldn't move.

He'd ov

I looked at him quietly, at this incurable obstinacy, and couldn't hold back a low laugh.Even reduced to this, broken and wretched with nothing left, he still held himself above me, naively certain I'd turn back and forgive him.Seeing my silence, Lucien hurried half a step forward, reaching out a damaged mechanical hand to touch my wrist."You, if you won't agree, then I won't force you to send him off right away. From now on I'll do everything you say, I'll stay quiet in the villa with you, never fight with you again, never take Vivian's side again. Okay?"He was panicking at last, finally tasting what it was to have nothing, no one to favor him and no one to give way to him.But the realization came far too late.I wrenched my hand hard out of his reach, my fingers brushing his cold, rough, broken chassis, and pure physical revulsion rose in me."No need."I lifted my eyes and held his suddenly bloodless face."The days when I spent five figures a year upgrading and maintaining you

Barely three days later, Vivian showed up at my door, furious, raising her voice the second she saw me."Lucien's gone missing. He's out wandering the streets, his chassis falling apart with no one to fix it. Do you really not feel one ounce of guilt?""He kept you company all that time. Why do you have to hunt him down to the bitter end and leave him nothing?"Days of stored-up irritation drained the last of my patience."Instead of standing here blaming me, you should worry about yourself."The words had barely left my mouth when the villa doorbell chimed, crisp and clear.Elias stepped over and opened the door, and several uniformed officers walked straight into the living room, their eyes settling on Vivian.I stood to the side and laid out, point by point, the full record of Vivian repeatedly stealing my private property, and told the officers her rented basement was still packed with a large quantity of stolen items she had failed to return. The color drained from Vivian's face i

Elias quietly stepped in front of me, his spine straight, his expression cold and still.Lucien ignored him completely, forcing two steps closer and jabbing a finger at me, blustering."I'm giving you one chance. Get rid of this new machine, now, and I'll let everything go."It struck me as absurd. "I have no reason to send Elias away, and I'm definitely not going anywhere with you."That lit the fuse. Lucien's chest heaved, his tone turning more savage."Don't bite the hand that feeds you. If Vivian hadn't blocked the workers from scrapping me, I'd have been junked already. Me being willing to come back to you is your good luck. Now get someone to bring me back and give me the villa."Elias spoke, low."This is Master's property. You have no right to ask anyone to leave."Lucien shot him a contemptuous sideways look."You're just a new machine. What would you understand? After all these years, I'm the only one who knows what she likes. I'm the only one fit to stay at her side.""Send

A few days later, the new model arrived. His name was Elias Hart. He had a baby face, but a steady, reserved temperament that played against it.The moment he stepped inside, he noticed my parents' tablets against the wall, and saw me standing there alone, staring, the loneliness in my eyes.Without a word he found a clean cloth and an incense tray, wiped the thin dust off the tablets bit by bit, straightened the scattered offerings, and set everything neatly in place.Sensing me watching, he stopped, his voice soft and low."You keep staring at the tablets, Master. They must be family who mattered deeply to you, so I tidied up. From now on, leave the daily incense and cleaning to me."In the days that followed, I found that Elias never demanded company the way Lucien had, and never held his own needs over my head. When cramps left me curled on the couch, he'd have warm brown-sugar ginger tea ready and sit quietly nearby. When I went looking for my old allergy meds, he'd already sorted

Dead silence. The smug, in-control smile froze on Lucien's face.He whipped around, disbelief and fury in his eyes."You called the dismantling crew? Sienna, are you crazy?""After all the time I spent with you, one little argument and you'd have me taken apart and scrapped? That's cruel, even for you."A moment ago he'd been so certain I'd cave, swallow it, bow my head to keep him. He'd even been savoring the thrill of having me under his thumb. But I couldn't be bothered to look at him.I braced my weak body and rose slowly from the cold floor."I'm not crazy.""From the moment you wiped my allergy data without asking, let her defile my parents' memorial, and leaked my private photos to force an apology out of me, my mind was made up.""I'd already decided to scrap you for good."Beside him, Vivian panicked too, her face bloodless as she clutched at Lucien's sleeve. The hostility in Lucien's eyes detonated, and he grabbed my wrist."But I'm your only partner. How can you do this to m
