Chapter 2

Author: Aurora
I ignored what Austin said and headed to the guest bedroom. After showering, I drifted into a half-sleep, vaguely aware of someone trying to open the door.

Realizing that the door was locked, Austin lingered outside for a long time.

Back when we were dating, we'd made a promise that no matter how badly we fought, we would never sleep in separate rooms. So, even after his countless affairs, we'd still share the same bed.

This was the first time I'd moved into the guest room on my own.

Austin called my name several times from outside. But I was exhausted and didn't feel like talking. I remained motionless on the bed.

The next morning, the first thing I did after waking up was text my best friend, Danielle Hodge, a divorce attorney.

Austin and I had been married for nearly ten years. We owned many shared assets. If I didn't want to get the short end of the stick, I needed to plan ahead.

When Danielle heard me bring up divorce again, she fell silent for a second before saying, "You want a divorce again? I'm really busy, you know."

I understood her frustration. After all, I'd also lost count of how many divorce agreements she'd drafted for me over the years, only for me to hesitate every time I'd be ready to hand them to Austin.

Once, he had even stumbled across one of the agreements by accident. Without bothering to read it, he picked up a pen and prepared to sign. When I saw that, I panicked, burst into tears, and begged him not to sign.

As if he'd known I'd do this, he looked at me from a position of superiority and said, "Brianna Parker, are you serious? You're the one who drafted this divorce agreement. What are you crying for now? If you're going to put on a performance, at least know your limits."

Hence, it wasn't surprising that nobody believed I was actually serious about leaving Austin.

I spoke into the phone. "Dani, draft another one for me. I want the larger share of the assets. It'd be even better if he leaves with nothing. I'll pay your full consultation fee."

I explained Austin and my financial situation in detail. Danielle quickly picked up on the difference in my tone.

"Are you sure?" she asked.

I nodded. "I'm very sure. And if this goes to court, I'll need your help."

She didn't say much more. After hanging up, she sent the documents over almost immediately.

This time, I didn't hesitate. I printed the divorce papers and went straight to Austin's office. As soon as I arrived, a hint of fear surfaced.

At first, Austin didn't want me visiting him at work because he was sleeping with his employees. Eventually, I became the one avoiding his workplace, afraid of seeing something I couldn't bear to witness.

But no matter how much I'd avoided it in the past, I was here now.

The receptionist recognized me and personally escorted me toward the elevators. Just as I reached to press the button, she quickly stopped me.

"Mrs. Cole, this elevator is reserved for Mr. Cole and Ms. Foster only. You can't use it."

I froze. So, everyone knew about Austin and Ellie.

I didn't make things difficult for the receptionist. Instead, I turned and waited for the public elevator. Her expression instantly turned into one of relief.

When I reached the CEO's office, Austin was still in a meeting.

Left alone in his office suite, I began looking around. Only then did I realize that this place had practically become his second home.

There was a private bedroom and a fully equipped bathroom. The entire room was filled with matching items for couples. There was even a framed wedding portrait hanging above the bed.

A sharp ache twisted in my chest.

When Austin and I got married, he had almost nothing. After paying rent, he barely had enough money left to get through the month. Naturally, a wedding photoshoot had been an impossible luxury.

Later, when we finally had money, he kept saying he was too busy for a photoshoot. Apparently, he wasn't too busy for Ellie.

As I was drowning in despair, the office door suddenly swung open. A man and a woman stumbled inside, wrapped in each other's arms. Neither of them seemed willing to wait another second as they tore at each other's clothes, their hands roaming everywhere.

Then, the unmistakable sounds of intimacy filled the room.

I stood there awkwardly for a moment before finally clearing my throat.

This was the perfect opportunity to pressure me, and Ellie didn't waste it. She sent me a message."If you're willing to give us half of the assets, I'll delete the post and tell everyone it was all a misunderstanding. You worked so hard to take Cole Group away from Austin. I'm sure you wouldn't want to bear the responsibility of the company going bankrupt."I read the message and smiled. Ellie was practically handing me exactly what I wanted on a silver platter. When Danielle found out, she sighed. "They're trying to drag you down with them."I knew that, of course. I had already prepared a complete plan. After I explained it to Danielle, she agreed it would work, and I immediately put it into action. When the post first appeared, the company's PR department wanted to respond, but I stopped them. They were baffled. Some of the old men on the executive board thought I'd lost my mind. After all, the company's losses were already significant. On top of that, netizens were tearing m

Based on what happened in the office last time, I could tell at a glance that Ellie was faking it. Besides, there was no way the cleaners would dare lay a finger on a pregnant woman.I was about to walk over and tell her to stop pretending when Danielle grabbed my arm."Don't go near her. I'll call the police. And next time something like this happens, keep your distance."I immediately stopped. In situations like this, it was best to listen to a lawyer.A short while later, the police and paramedics arrived. Soon, the doorway was crowded. The whole time, Elli lay on the floor wailing. The moment she heard the police had arrived, she cried even louder. Anyone who didn't know better would think that someone was being murdered. The only person who wasn't playing along was the baby's father. Austin stood to the side, watching the entire scene. He wasn't stupid. He could tell that she was pretending too. When no one was around, it was cute. But when there was an audience, it was emb

When we arrived, Austin was indeed at home.He hadn't worked in a long time. He hadn't even realized he'd been pushed out of the company until he showed up at the office. Things had fallen apart badly for him. When he saw me, his face flashed with hatred, anger, and resentment. He couldn't understand how I had suddenly just stopped loving him. I used to treat him so well, forgiving him over and over again. Why had I suddenly become so ruthless, joining forces with the executive board to kick him out?"What are you doing here? If you're here to make peace, you can forget about it! Although, if you can show a little sincerity, maybe it's not entirely impossible."His tone was somewhere between questioning and hysterical.I got straight to the point."Didn't Ellie tell you? I'm here to reclaim my house! Have you forgotten? This house belongs to me too."Austin froze. Ever since signing that agreement, he no longer owned any assets in his name. To make matters worse, he'd spent a

There was no way Austin would accept defeat so easily. I knew he'd eventually come up with some plan to fight me.But what I didn't expect was for Ellie to lose her patience first. One evening, after work, I came home to find her standing outside my front door. By then, her pregnancy was already starting to show. She proudly flaunted her big belly, seemingly determined to make sure everyone knew she was pregnant. The moment she saw me, she reached out a hand and blocked me from opening the door. Most of my interactions with Ellie had been about catching her in bed with Austin. This was new. Curious to see what she wanted, I stopped and waited for her next move. The smile on her face disappeared."How can you be so heartless? Will you only be satisfied when Austin is homeless? You were married to him. Doesn't that count for anything? Don't you feel bad about what you've done?"Listening to her ramble, I had the urge to slap her again. But she was pregnant, and I didn't want somet

When Austin asked what was on my mind, I still refused to talk to him.A flash of anger crossed his face. He looked ready to press me again when his ringtone suddenly blared through the room."Dear husband, answer your phone! Leave your grumpy old wife and come see your princess Ellie!"The air turned stale. He hurriedly explained, "Ellie's pregnant. I had to change it back."I nodded and said, "We're already divorced. You don't need to explain yourself to me."That only made things even more uncomfortable. He stood there silently, staring at me as his phone rang incessantly. Just as he was about to hang up and continue questioning me, I answered the call for him. Ellie's voice immediately came through the speaker.Apparently, her pregnancy hormones were acting up. She felt miserable whenever Austin wasn't around. He had to soothe and reassure her over the phone. After hanging up, he glanced at me helplessly."I know you're upset that I'm having a child with someone else, but

Austin had no idea that he had already been pushed out of Cole Group. That evening, when he got home and found me lounging on the couch, his anger flared instantly. He strode over and grabbed my arm."You've got some nerve sitting here watching TV. Do you know that Ellie nearly lost the baby because of you? How do you plan to make this up to her?"His face twisted with rage. Conversely, I seemed unnervingly calm."Austin, have you forgotten something? Ellie actually caused me to lose my child. And how did she make it up to me?"The moment I mentioned our second child, Austin froze.Back then, after my miscarriage, it had looked as though he'd punished Ellie by firing her and sending her away. But in reality, he was protecting her.He knew that once I recovered, I'd go after her. So, instead of waiting for me to seek revenge, he hid her somewhere nobody could find. Then, when the scandal died down, he brought her back. For a brief moment, Austin felt a flicker of guilt. But he s
