She paid the cab driver and stood on the sidewalk outside Mark's building, her clutch under her arm and Paige's voice still running on a loop in the back of her head.

"She's right. I can do this. I'm allowed to want him." Then, realizing how loud that sounded in the night, she shushed herself and giggled.

She headed inside and got into the elevator, pressed the button, and rode it up to the fourth floor. It was late, around midnight. She was sure Mark would be sound asleep by now.

The hallway was quiet. She found her keys, looking for Mark's key, the little silver one that Mark had cut for her eight months ago. It took her three attempts to get the key in the lock.

A giggle bubbled up out of nowhere, and she pressed her free hand over her mouth to smother it. She had no idea what was funny. Possibly everything. Possibly nothing. Possibly just the image of herself failing to unlock a simple door, slightly drunk, about to seduce her own boyfriend.

She got herself together and pushed the door open.

The apartment was dark. No lights on anywhere, just the faint glow of the city coming through the big windows at the far end of the living room. Enough to make out shapes. The couch. The kitchen counter. The outline of things.

Good. It wasn't pitch black at least. She really didn't want to wake him up. Not yet at least.

She eased the door shut behind her. Held the handle as she turned it so it didn't click loudly but closed softly.

She reached down and unstrapped her right heel. Held onto the wall with her fingertips while she got her balance, which took slightly longer than it should have. She swapped hands and did the left one. Leaving the heels where they landed, dropping her purse on top, and straightened up. She wouldn't be needing them, not until morning.

The floor was cool under her feet.

She moved through the dark, reaching out now and again just to confirm where things were. The edge of the kitchen counter. The back of the couch. She knew the way to his bedroom.

She still walked into the side table by the hallway.

She caught it before it went over, one hand slapping down on the surface hard enough that the little ceramic bowl Mark kept his spare change in rattled and shifted, and she froze, both hands flat on the table, eyes wide in the dark, waiting.

Nothing.

She let out a breath through her nose.

Down the hall then. The bedroom door was pulled almost closed, a thin strip of dark at the gap. She nudged it open with her fingertips and stepped through.

She could make out the shape of him in the bed. On his side, facing away from her, the duvet pulled up. He must have come home and crashed early. The room was quiet and still and very dark, and her heart was going considerably faster than it had any right to.

Another giggle tried to surface, and she pressed her lips together hard. She was not going to laugh her way through this. She was a grown-assed woman. She was capable of doing this without dissolving into nervous laughter like a teenager or freezing. She was going to get her orgasm. If Mark needed a little excitement, then she was going to give it to him.

She unzipped her dress.

The zip was at the side, and it was small and fiddly, and she caught it on the fabric twice before it gave. By the time the dress slipped off her shoulders, she had thought about turning around and leaving twice. But she needed this. They needed this to work. She was not pathetic, and she was going to show him. She let the dress fall and stepped out of it and stood there in the dark in just her underwear. Her eyes had adjusted to the dark room, but it was still too dark to see anything.

Should she take her underwear off, or would it be better to leave it on?

"Don't overthink the approach. Just go," she whispered in the dark.

She crossed to the bed and lifted the duvet and slid in behind him, moving slowly, trying not to disturb the mattress any more than she had to. The warmth coming off him was solid and real, radiating through the dark like he'd been there a while. One of the things she loved was the heat and smell of a man. So different from a woman's.

She lay still for a moment, just breathing him in. But everything was muted a little because of the alcohol still pumping through her veins. It was the reason she was here, because there was no way she would have slipped into his bed to seduce him without it.

Her heart was going so fast she was mildly concerned he could feel it. She was close enough that she could. She pressed her lips together and stared at the back of his shoulder and thought, you can do this. You have come this far. If he says no, walk out and leave. But what man turns down sex?

With that in mind, she moved closer.

She pressed herself against his back, her chest to his shoulder blades, and slid her arm around his waist.

He stirred. A small shift, a change in his breathing. Not quite awake but getting there.

Her nerve almost went. The panic was right there, sharp and sudden, the familiar voice that said too much, too forward, what are you doing. But she pushed it down hard and pressed her mouth to the back of his neck instead and kept her arm where it was. She ran her fingers down his front, around his navel and down to his sex, wrapping her fingers around his length.

He went still in a different way. Not asleep still. Aware still.

His breathing changed, and the sex in her hand went from soft to hard in an instant.

"Hello, lover."

"You're lying." But she didn't sound sure anymore."I wouldn't be that cruel to you, Willow.""Then why would you say that? Why would you tell me something like that? Because it's not true. It can't be.""Because it is true." Reid picked up his phone from the nightstand before moving to her side. "And I can prove it.""I don't want to see whatever you think you have.""Too bad." He pulled up the photos Hal had sent him last night before he'd gone to bed. The ones Reid had asked for because he'd been looking for something concrete to show Willow, proof of what Mark actually was. He'd gotten more than he'd bargained for. He hadn't known how he was going to break it to her but wanted the evidence just in case. "Look at this."He held the phone out to her. She didn't take it. Just stood there staring at him with those wide eyes."Look at it, Willow.""No." Was she worried about what she might see? He didn't blame her, but she needed to see who his brother truly was."Look at it. It isn't

Reid looked at her standing there wrapped in that sheet, her face blotchy from crying, her hair a mess. He could see the mark he'd left on her neck like he'd been trying to mark his territory. In some ways, he had. It gave him a warm feeling in his belly just seeing it. Also, as good as knowing she'd left her mark on him. His chest bore the indentations from her nails where she'd ridden him last night. She had never looked more beautiful. He reached down, grabbing his boxers, then pulling them on as he felt blood flood his cock. When he turned back to her, she looked so lost he wanted to pull her into his arms and tell her it would be okay. But he couldn't do that. She wouldn't let him even if he tried."Let's have a shower." Seeing her look, he shook his head. "Not together. You go first. We'll get dressed. Then we can figure out what we need to do next.""What we want to do? There is no we." Her voice went high again. "I don't know what I need to do. I just cheated on my boyfriend w

She scrambled out of bed, realizing almost too late she was naked. Her hands grabbed for the sheet, yanking it with her, wrapping it around herself as she stumbled backward away from him. This couldn't be happening.Reid sat up slowly, watching her, and his face gave away nothing. Just that same intense look he always had, the one that made her squirm. Her heart was hammering so hard she could hear it in her ears."What are you doing here?" The words came out high and breathless. "What are you doing in Mark's bed?" Willow looked around. Was this some kind of sick joke? Was Mark somewhere in the apartment? No, he wouldn't do this to her. Surely. He didn't answer right away. Just looked at her with those brown eyes. Brown, not blue. Brown with flecks of yellow that caught the morning light coming through the curtains. Eagle eyes. Right at this moment, she did feel like prey under his intense gaze. She couldn't believe she hadn't noticed that she hadn't been in bed with Mark. She had pus

She woke slowly, aware of warmth at her back and the weight of an arm draped over her waist. For a moment, she just lay there, comfortable and sated and not quite ready to open her eyes. Then she felt his hand move. A slow stroke up her side, his palm warm against her bare skin, and she knew he was awake. She stayed still, not sure what to say or do. Morning felt different from the dark. The dark had been liberating, and the drinks she had with Paige had helped. As her heart rate picked up, she didn't think she would need either. His hand moved again. Across her stomach this time, spreading wide and warm, pulling her back against him.She could feel all of him. The solid wall of his chest against her back, the heat of him, the unmistakable press of his erection against her backside. Her breath caught. His mouth found the back of her neck. A slow kiss, then another, and she felt heat flood through her all over again. She had just woken up, and she was already wound tight for him. That

She needed to get rid of this underwear. She should have removed it before getting into bed so it wouldn't be in the way now. But she had wanted to keep her bra and panties on until she was sure he wouldn't push her away. She sat up and looked down at the shadow of his face. His hands were still where she had put them, above his head, and the fact that he was still keeping them there, still doing as she had told him, sent heat moving through her all over again. "Don't move."She moved off him, reached down and found the waistband of her underwear, and lifted up on her knees just enough to push them down and work them free and drop them somewhere over the side of the bed. Then she settled back over him, bare this time, nothing between them, and they both went still at exactly the same moment. The heat of him against her was startling. She had felt him through the fabric, and that had been enough to make her breathless, but this was different. Direct and real and considerably more than

He seemed to freeze for a moment, and she was worried he might push her away, which would really destroy her confidence. She held her breath, her hand still wrapped around him, her mouth against the back of his neck, waiting for him to reach down and remove her hand or shift away or say her name in that particular tone Mark used when he wasn't in the mood.He didn't do any of those things.Instead, he exhaled. Long and slow, like something he'd been holding for a while, and the tension went out of him all at once. She let out the breath she'd been holding.Okay then. She'd gotten this far, and she needed to push through the nerves that the alcohol hadn't quite taken care of.His breathing changed completely, deeper and almost unsteady, and she pressed her lips to the back of his neck again, grazing her teeth lightly along his skin. He shivered. That small involuntary thing moved through her like something warm poured into her chest. She had never made Mark shiver. She hadn't known tha
