Chapter 4

Elizabeth's ladylike grace went right out the window.

She lunged at me like a madwoman and tried to rip out my hair.

Lucio held her back with all his strength.

After Lucio spent a long time soothing her, she finally got her anger under control.

Me? I just thought I hadn't hit her hard enough.

She glared at me, her eyes full of venom.

"Lisa, just you wait. You're going to pay for what you did today!"

Smiling, I sat down, ignored everyone's stares, and took a sip of black tea. "Speaking of paying, has anyone ordered yet?"

Throughout the meal, Lucio kept putting food on my plate.

The more Elizabeth watched, the more upset she became.

She sat there scowling and didn't eat a thing.

Anyone could see she was putting on a show.

Eventually, she got up in a huff and stormed off to the restroom.

The rest of us kept eating for a while.

Then Lucio made up an excuse and went after her.

"Lisa, what did you do to make the school heartthrob so crazy about you?"

"If you were an Alpha female like me, he'd treat you this way too."

"That's it?"

My nosy classmates obviously didn't buy it.

To them, it didn't add up.

Sure, Alpha females were rare.

But I wasn't the only one.

Sometimes I wondered what it would be like if I'd been born a boy.

Would I have been spared all this crap?

But there was no point dwelling on what-ifs.

I got up and went to the restroom.

From down the hall, I saw Lucio holding Elizabeth as she sobbed.

Elizabeth put on a hurt, pitiful look.

"Lucio, why do you keep being so nice to her?"

Lucio whispered in her ear. "Elizabeth, I'm doing this for your future.

"Think about it. If you had her Alpha female bloodline..."

Only then did Elizabeth smile.

But a second later, she spotted me. Neither of them had noticed me come in.

She shoved Lucio away.

"N-no, Lucio and I are just close. Don't misunderstand."

I folded my arms and looked at them.

"I haven't accused you of anything. Why are you in such a hurry to explain?"

Lucio cut in, flustered. "Lisa..."

I knew there was no point in playing along anymore.

"Lucio, let's break up."

Lucio rushed over, grabbed my wrist, and pleaded, "Lisa, nothing is going on between Elizabeth and me. I don't want us to break up."

I put on a hurt look.

"Then why were you two hugging?"

Elizabeth cut in. "He was only comforting me. You don't have to make such a big deal out of everything..."

I looked at their faces and almost laughed out loud.

"No. I'm still breaking up with him.

"You may think he's a great catch, but I think he's worthless."

I walked away without waiting to see their reactions.

Then I went to see a witch Noah had recommended.

I explained my situation. When she told me there was an antidote, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Soon, I was holding the antidote to the potion I'd been given as a child.

I stared at the blue liquid in the bottle.

Only then did I realize what had really happened in my last life.

All those years, every potion Lucio had brought home was fake.

The day before my wolf was due to awaken, I went to the police station and found the same Betas who had patrolled past my stall in my last life.

I said, "Hi. I think my wolf is about to awaken.

"But I'm a little scared. Could you stay with me while it happens?"

They agreed and took me to a break room.

One of the female officers asked about my grades at the academy.

When I told her, she looked surprised.

"With grades like that, are both your parents Alphas?"

I smiled.

"Even my teacher thinks I'll be an Alpha female."

That night, they stayed to witness it.

My wolf awakened.

I could finally shift into my wolf form.

And I could finally speak to my wolf.

Relief washed over me, and tears filled my eyes.

Before I left, the Betas gave me a small gift.

The same female officer said, "Alpha females have bright futures. Make sure you choose your path wisely."

I nodded and walked home through the darkness.

When I got to my front door, Lucio was waiting there.

He opened his mouth to explain, but I cut him off. "I don't want to hear another word about you and Elizabeth.

"Stop harassing me, okay?"

Before he could say anything, his phone rang.

It was his father calling.

"Go ahead, answer it," I told him.

Only then did he answer.

He spoke quietly into the phone.

I couldn't make out his words, and I was done pretending.

"My wolf has already awakened."

Lucio and the person on the other end both went silent.

"You're still after my Alpha female bloodline, aren't you?" I said coldly.

His expression changed. "Lisa, what are you talking about?"

I opened the door, stepped inside, then turned back to him.

"You want Elizabeth to take my place as the Alpha female?

"Dream on!"
