Chapter 5

Author: Apples
The trip was over, and the new school year was fast approaching.

Marcus Black and Damian Knight had a great time, but an unease began to creep into their hearts.

Even by their standards, what Elena Rivers had done was too much.

Amara had already suffered too much.

She had lost both her parents at a young age, leaving her only with her frail, elderly grandmother.

She had been misled and made mistakes, but it wasn't entirely her fault.

After all, they were childhood sweethearts, growing up together. Their bond should be extraordinary.

If anything, the brothers felt they should take more responsibility for Amara's health.

So, on their way home, they brought Amara several bags of gifts.

When they arrived at the hospital to visit Amara's grandmother, they were met with a cold reception.

“Grandmother situation is highly confidential. Please refrain from disturbing her,” the nurse said curtly.

The words “highly confidential” stung Marcus Black and Damian Knight.

They had grown up with Amara,

When we met again, both Marcus Black and Damian Knight had aged considerably. They were once heirs to a mafia family, but now they look like homeless people on the street.I was walking with my grandmother in the garden, the sun warm on our faces. I had just helped her sit down under a large oak tree, when I felt a sudden presence, a heaviness in the air. Before I could react, they appeared in front of me.They dragged a crying Elena Rivers behind them. Her once graceful figure was now marked by bruises, scratches, and cuts—her clothes torn, eyes swollen from tears. It was a haunting sight, and my heart ached for her. “Amara,” Marcus Black said, his voice trembling, softer than I had ever heard. His eyes were tired, the weight of countless regrets hanging in them. "We need to talk. This... this is the last time. If we don’t say it now, we might die with regret."His words hung in the air, desperate.Damian stood by silently, his posture stiff, his eyes darting between Marcus and me

But my heart stirred with no emotion.I calmly pulled out my phone and played the recording of their confessions to Elena Rivers. Then, without a trace of expression, I looked at them.“Stop pretending. The game is over.”“If you truly care about Elena Rivers, go after her. Don’t use my life as a pawn to satisfy your own twisted love story. I have my own life to live, and I don’t need you in it anymore.”The once-confident men who had controlled so much of my past were now pale and speechless. They stood frozen, mouths open, but nothing came out.Damian Knight, in his usual rash manner, lunged forward to snatch the phone from my hands. I took a step back, not afraid, just... detached.I met his gaze with an icy calm.“This is a research center. There are security personnel here,” I said, my tone unwavering.“You can’t destroy the evidence by breaking my phone. And don’t even think about using my grandmother to threaten me.”The mention of my grandmother pierced through my chest, but my

After getting off the plane, I took a long ride in a private car.It felt like an eternity before we finally arrived at our destination. The professor welcomed me warmly.“Miss Amara, the talented young woman, we’ve been eagerly awaiting your arrival. When we heard you applied to Harvard, we were honestly disappointed at first. We had hoped a brilliant mind like yours would choose us instead. But now, we’re thrilled you’ve decided to join our program. You’re exactly the kind of person we want to work with.”“Thank you, Professor. I will work hard and not let down your trust and training,” I said, bowing slightly. The professor glanced at my resume. “It looks like you’ve been interested in research for a long time. So, what made you change your mind about applying to Harvard?”Harvard had been Marcus Black and Damian Knight’s dream. The three of us had grown up together. From the moment we could speak, we were inseparable. Our bond had always been strong. We had made a pact that we woul

After my parents passed away, the Luciano family had fallen into disarray. Our once-proud household now stood in ruins, a shadow of its former self. But now, with a single move, I had raised the Luciano family from the ashes, signaling to everyone that the family still had a future, and no longer was it a target for anyone’s mockery or scorn. That’s why Grandma placed so much importance on the banquet—it had to be perfect, not a single detail could be overlooked. The night of the banquet arrived, and the venue was filled with influential figures from all corners of the Luciano family’s network: high-ranking mafia members, influential businessmen, political figures with ties to the family, and trusted allies who had proven their loyalty over the years. Every single person in the room had a role to play—some were there to honor the family, others to forge deeper alliances, and a few to demonstrate their unwavering loyalty to the Luciano legacy. Elena Rivers, in a high-end gown, wal

I wanted to drive myself home, but then I remembered that Damian Knight was the one who had carried my bag. Reluctantly, I had no choice but to catch up with the three of them. As I passed a cluster of trees, I heard Damian Knight’s irritated voice. “Elena, baby, how much longer are we going to keep pretending? I can’t take it anymore. Amara’s been acting so wild lately, who knows what kind of disease she’s hiding.” “Amara’s such a fool, she can’t even tell the difference between real valuables and fakes. No wonder some old man could trick her into bed with a few words. A person like that doesn’t deserve to be the future lady of the Black family. Elena, the real family heirloom ring should only be for you.” Elena Rivers looked at the two men with an innocent, almost pitiable expression. “Amara has done many bad things, but she has been kind to me. How could I just ignore her? If you don’t do what I say, I’ll never talk to you again!” At the sound of her ultimatum, both of the hi
