CHAPTER 3
FREDA'S POV"STAY with me."My voice came out of my larynx trembling. It was obvious I was risking everything bringing this man home as he was still bleeding profusely from the bullet holes but the good thing about everything was that he was conscious for that moment. With one hand over my shoulder, we wobbled into my apartment, he fell to the ground right at the door, his eyes fluttering again about to lose consciousness.I swiped my hands across his face, landing a stinging slap that brought him back to life."Don't die on me," I said, picking him up as we staggered into my kitchen. I placed him right on the table before rushing to get my first aid kit.The man was still groaning when I reached his side."You will be fine," I assured him looking into his dark, dying eyes. His body was getting cold every minute, it had to be the cold from the rain or the fact that he was dying."Fuck." I muttered to myself realizing I had no painkillers to help ease his pain while I got the bullet out.I ran my hands through the drawer again and found a piece of leather.A part of me was screaming at me to drive off as that was what anyone with common sense would do but I was sworn to an oath and it would seem unethical for me to leave many dying by the roadside.I got out of the car and stood under the heavy rain, my fingers trembling as I turned the man.Two of my fingers reached for the side of his neck. "Good he is still breathing."His breath was rasping and right there on his upper arm were two bullet wounds. With rasped breaths and fluttering eyes the words "please save me…""Chew on this," I said while reaching for the bottle of liquor up on the shelf.Tearing his shirt open with a pen knife exposing his ripped chest, He groaned in pain as I poured out a generous quantity of liquor on his wound."You will be fine."I poured more liquor on the forceps and burnt the end with a lighter for sterilization and forced the leather into his mouth."Chew firmly."I dug the forceps into him hoping to find the bullets as he groaned in pain.It took about ten minutes but soon I was bringing out the second bullet. He muttered something I couldn't hear and the truth was I was so mind-absorbed in what I was doing that I didn't pay attention to what he was saying. After pulling the bullet out of him he lost consciousness, with the quantity of blood he had lost and after running a blood test on him with my home kit, I knew I had to rush to the pharmacy down the road to get a pint or two.Closing the door behind me I took that long walk, by then the rain had long stopped but I still shivered.I flashed my Identity card across the attendance face and soon she came back with exactly what I wanted. The trip back home was quicker, and if there was anything I was glad of it definitely and to be the fact that he was still breathing when I reached him.He would be safe. I thought to myself after running the drip watching the blood trickle, this was illegal and I was risking my license doing this but I did it anyway.****I spent the next day by his side watching and waiting for him to just open his eyes and be conscious. All through that time, I paced the room in a state of anxiety. He had survived this long and dying would not only drag into a lot of professional trouble but also it was certain I was going to jail as I had held the man for more than…I glanced at my watch, more than twenty – three hours. His vitals came out all right, and it kept me Wondering why he was still unconscious. All through that day all I wanted was for him to wake up and give me a good reason why he had stressed up my life for that short period, it was a good thing I was free for that day so I will have to stay the whole day by his side even when I had to eat lunch and later dinner, I did so by his side not leaving him for one moment not even when I had to sleep.Morning came quickly and at first when my eyes fluttered open something seemed different, I walked into the shower butt-ass naked ignoring the fact that I have a male stranger in the apartment with me.Soon I walked out and got ready for work. For a minute I didn't want to leave the man alone but I had to get to work on time to prevent getting into more trouble with Mr. Adams.I took a good look at his vitals and seeing it was all good, I stepped out of my apartment.I had not washed my car from the stench of blood so it felt unwise to use it so instead I opted for a cab.It took me just ten minutes of reaching work to realize I had forgotten the file Mr. Adam asked for my car at home. I would have remembered if I had used the car that morning as it was laying on the second seat."What the hell am I going to do now?" I thought to myself about running home to get it.I was still trying to make the decision when I turned to meet Mr. Adam face-to-face "Miss Frenda, my office now!" He ordered.I shut the door behind me looking for a good excuse to give him."Sir…""Save it!" He interrupted as I was trying to speak. "Where is the file?""That is what I was trying to say." I tried explaining."You are the most incompetent person I have ever known." He blasted out the ugly words from his mouth."Sir ." I grimaced. "That is a very unfair word to say to me, you know I try my…""Shut the hell up." He cut me off again and I was freezing right where I was standing. The Medical Superintendent walked in and I sighed in relief. "What the hell is going on here?"Mr. Adams could not bring himself to speak, "Are you fine Freda you look sick.""I am just tired sir," I said."Why don't you take the rest of the day off." He said.It was the best news I could get, as I closed the door behind me I could hear him addressing Mr. Adam, he had not wanted to do that in front of me.I didn't care a bit about what they were ranting about, all I wanted to do was reach home as fast as I couldI struggled with the groceries and getting the key into the keyhole of my room.As soon as I switched on the light in my room, I dropped the groceries in shock. The stranger was awake and was watching me with curious eyes."Where am I?" He asked."What happened to me?"CHAPTER 4FREDA'S POVI STARED briskly at this stranger I had no idea about, and if I was being totally sincere he looked so handsome even in his distress. He studied me with curious eyes, it got me wondering why he was doing so as I was filled with a kind of unease with the way he stares burning right Into my soul."Who the hell are you?" He asked again. It was funny he was doing the exact thing I was supposed to be doing, how ironic it was to ask the owner of the house for her identity."I think the question should be who are you rather," I said to the man, not tearing away my gaze from his face.He groaned as he struggled to get up. "Look I don't know who you are or what you've done to me all I want to do is get out of this fucking place." "This fucking place." I looked around and chuckled. This was certainly one ungrateful son of a bitch and I was done smiling with him."Who the hell are you to speak to me in such a manner?" I sounded pissed."After saving your life you didn't de
CHAPTER 5FREDA’S POVI was hurt that Darren ended things with me just because I refused to send this stranger out of my house in his state. But come to think of it, how could Darren be this heartless?Courld it be that he had been looking for reasons to call of the engagement but didn't find any and decided to use this issue as a cover up?Something I fishy and I was sure about it, there was no way he would have called off the marriage just because I wanted to help someone who was in need?"I'm sorry." A voice drifted into my ears."Huh!"I froze for about a second before turning around sharply and to my shock, I saw him standing at the door with a pained expression on his face. “Wait, how long have you been standing there?” I squinted my brows staring intensely at him..“I’m sorry, I know I’m not supposed to eavesdrop but I just couldn’t help it,” He sighed looking as though a child who had been caught doing something bad. What the hell was he saying? He couldn’t help but not give
CHAPTER 6Freda’s POV. "Hummm."I muttered as I woke up with a banging headache, the first thing that came to my mind was ‘Liam’. His well-being and welfare was my utmost priority. I stood and picked a coat from my closet to cover my night dress. I went straight to Liam’s room and stretched my hand to knock on the door when the door opened suddenly, and I was cleared my throat nervously. “I just wanted to check on you,” I said nervously, but hoped silently that he didn’t notice the nervousness in my voice. “Well, I’m okay,” Liam smiled and I shook my head, brushing him lightly before entering his room.“Lie down,” I frowned pointing at the bed."Why?" Liam squinted his brows as he stared at me with a confused expression. “Are you okay?” He frowned as he moved towards me slowly.“What sort of question is this?” I stated with the expression on my face changing. At that moment, all the nervousness I had been feeling disappeared into thin air. “I’m fine,” I continued."I see." Liam
CHAPTER 7FREDA’S POV“You can’t call them!” I said in a panic while Darren wondered if he was about doing something wrong. “You’re acting weird nowadays,” Darren said slowly. I honestly didn’t know what Darren was talking about, so I kept on staring at him with a creased brows. “You say you care for people and feel their pain but why would you do that to him just because he wanted to leave?” Darren asked pointing at the unconscious Liam on the floor. This made me reflect if I did anything wrong, but the moment I remembered I did this just because I wanted him to be safe, I felt happy. “I didn’t change,” I said with a smirk but suddenly remembered that he wanted to report to my family. “Besides, Don’t call my family members to tell them anything,” I said seriously. “It’s none of your business, it’s my duty to tell them about the breakup and not yours,” I added hastily I didn’t want him to be involved in my family issues and dark past, and that was why I wanted to tell them myse
CHAPTER 8FREDA’S POV“What in heaven’s name is happening here?” I asked shockingly and that instant, I saw Liam walk out of the Kitchen in an apron. The dining was filled with dishes of Chicken Marsala, but I still couldn’t believe the sight before me. “Liam! You...What were you doing in there?” I asked the moment I was able to find my voice. “Why?” He asked confusingly. “I just noticed you were about cooking and you left halfway to the hospital, so I decided to help you cook it,” Liam explained, as I furrowed my brows in shock. “You know how to cook?” I asked surprisingly. Thinking about it, Darren had never prepared any meal for me but, Liam was just doing so. “Well I didn’t know how I cooked it, I just put things together with what I guessed and they gave me this,” Liam smiled pointing at the food on the dining. “I’ll join you later,” I said, as I headed straight to my room. My body was reeking of sweat, so bathing that moment was the only thing on my mind. Quickly, I rus
CHAPTER 9Freda’s POV I woke up the next morning with a bang on my door and I knew instantly that it was definitely no one but Ruby. I got up and dragged my legs to open the door for her, just to meet the confused look on her face and I knew immediately that Ruby must have met Liam. “That man in your house?” This was the first thing that escaped her mouth when her eyes met with mine. I widened my door for her to come inside which she did without delay. “You have to start talking, so I’ll understand everything,” Ruby said with a very serious look, leaving me to nod. That was one of the reasons why I called her, so I could talk to her and feel better. I wasted no time in explaining to her about how I met Liam, and how I also saved him. The atmosphere became tense when I suddenly mentioned that Darren caught sight of Liam in my house and Ruby couldn’t hold back her scream. “No way!!!!” She screamed but I was quick to cover her mouth, making her words become a muffled sound. “Ple
CHAPTER 10Liam’s POV. I stared at the girl before me with anger coursing through my veins. Not that I was angry with her, nor Freda, but I was angry at myself because I was a coward! How could I just forget who I was and the memories I must have shared with those who I called family or friends. The fact that Freda’s friend was a talkative made me not to like her, coupled with reasons unknown to me. I just didn’t know why my instinct failed to trust her or believe that she was real. But I felt I was wrong to suddenly hate someone with no just cause. At least, I know that it wasn’t my fault that I developed amnesia, but I couldn’t help but “Because I mean if you try, you can at least remember something,” She said again and I sighed. Wasn’t she supposed to know when to shut up, even after refusing to reply her. I opened my mouth but Freda beat me to it. “Ruby, please watch your tongue,” Freda said as I stared at her surprisingly. “It’s not his fault that he’s suddenly sufferin
Freda’s POV I walked into the hospital, hoping I’d be able to avoid Vivian and Mr. Adams that day. I went straight to my office the moment I got to the hospital and began attending to some work I had abandoned for a long time, trying to avoid anything that would make Mr. Adams hurl insults at me. “Look who came early today?” I heard her voice and refused to look up, so I could avoid anything that would make me angry or cause me to say things I would regret later on. “I’m talking to you!” Vivian said and took steady steps towards my table. She sat on the vacant chair and kept her leg on the table, obviously distracting me from my work. “Please, leave me alone,” I pleaded, because I wouldn’t want to do anything that would jeopardize my medical license or cause issues with Mr. Adams. “Look who’s pleading?” Vivian laughed and I shook my head. I silently hoped that the Medical Superintendent would pass by and see Vivian hanging her leg on the table. As if she heard my prayer, the Med
