CHAPTER 4

FREDA'S POV

I STARED briskly at this stranger I had no idea about, and if I was being totally sincere he looked so handsome even in his distress.

He studied me with curious eyes, it got me wondering why he was doing so as I was filled with a kind of unease with the way he stares burning right Into my soul.

"Who the hell are you?" He asked again.

It was funny he was doing the exact thing I was supposed to be doing, how ironic it was to ask the owner of the house for her identity.

"I think the question should be who are you rather," I said to the man, not tearing away my gaze from his face.

He groaned as he struggled to get up. "Look I don't know who you are or what you've done to me all I want to do is get out of this fucking place."

"This fucking place." I looked around and chuckled.

This was certainly one ungrateful son of a bitch and I was done smiling with him.

"Who the hell are you to speak to me in such a manner?" I sounded pissed.

"After saving your life you didn't deem it fit to say a proper thank you"

"Wait, you saved my life?" He sounded Confused.

I was starting to wonder if he was crazy or …

"Wait a minute, don't tell me you can't remember anything.'

"Honestly I can't." He said running his hands through his hair.

I was the same as he was confused about the entire situation.

"Tell me what happened."

"Well, I found you half dead from a gun wound."

I walked to the kitchen and brought out the bullet's from the drawer, placing them on the table. He looked at them before picking one in his hands.

"Why do I have a feeling you are lying."

"Why would I lie?"

He tried shrugging and felt a sharp pain. "I don't know. " He groaned.

"Well, I think I have to leave immediately. You don't feel safe here."

He stood up, "Can I borrow a shirt of any type I don't mind."

For a minute I thought about how he would look in one of my shirts, I realized his chest had been distracting as I kept looking back at it so I walked into the room and got him one of my fiance's old shirts and tossed it at him.

"Do you leave here alone?" He asked while putting on the shirt.

"Yeah, I do," I replied.

The shirt already had a dot of red on it from a blood stain.

"I don't know, something about all this is off I don't tell save here."

I was starting to regret giving him a goddamned shirt as I could see it was motivating him to leave and I wouldn't have that, not when he is still not fully healed.

He made it to the door but I went ahead and stood in front of it.

"You are going nowhere."

"Look I don't know you and I appreciate everything but please move away before I move you out my way."

I chuckled. "Let's see you try."

He tried moving me away from the door and felt the same Sharp pain.

"Are you fine?" I asked when he went to the ground on one knee.

"Don't touch me ." he flinched.

"Easy I am not going to hurt you I just want to check the stitches."

He eyed me for a minute not knowing if I should fix him or not, from the look of it he had to be someone bad at trusting people, memory loss or not.

"Fine you can but after everything I am going through, I can't stay here more than a second."

"Where are you going since you have no idea who you are?" I asked the same probing questions that had been on my mind.

"I don't know and I don't care if I find my way."

I went all out fixing him up and it was easier this time since he was awake and conscious.

"Are you a Doctor?" He asked.

"Kind of."

He said nothing but watched as I fixed him up again, when I was done he muttered the word thank you.

"You are welcome," I replied.

I was glad he had left the long talk about leaving for that moment and instead he paced around the room looking around and lifting a copy of Grey's anatomy.

"I've read this book ten times." He said flipping through the pages.

He found the whiskey I had used in treating him and opened the bottle, sniffing at it before gulping it down.

"Good he drank straight from the bottle." I thought.

"Sorry for that ." he apologized with a smirk.

Just then we heard a knock on the door, I was surprised as I wasn't expecting anyone.

"Who is that?" He asked.

My fiance's voice came from the other side." Freda said.

I was confused and startled.

"You need to hide!"

"Who is that?" He asked.

"My fiance "

I didn't wait to explain further before pushing him into the bathroom as I walked to get the door.

As I unbolted he walked in looking around at the room that appeared untidy.

"Why did it take you so long?"

"I…" started looking around.

"What is_"

"Wait!" I said as his hands circled the bathroom door handle.

Too late as he opened.

The two men stared at each other.

*

"Who is he?" Darren asked as he turned to look at me, I was still standing at the place I had been.

"He is, He is a patient. I saw him at the roadside and decided to help him, he was severely injured and almost dying. I'm a doctor, I had to help," I explained with shaky hands, I was feeling very scared and anxious. I know how angry Darren would be, his temper is terrible. I

"You found a wounded man by the roadside, treated him, and never bothered to tell me about it?" Darren asked me, I only nodded my head.

"I'm sorry, I thought, I thought," I tried to say but ended up stammering as I lacked words to say.

"Come with me right now," Darren said and turned towards the door. He stopped when he noticed I hadn't even moved an inch from where I stood.

"I said come with me," Darren barked and forcefully grabbed me by my wrist. I winced in pain but Darren didn't let go even as he was hurting me.

He dragged me out of the room and let go of me when we got to the living room.

"How can you be able to explain this to the cops if they become aware of this? You don't even know who he is, you don't know what happened to him. You just brought him to your apartment because he was dying and you needed to help," Darren said to me, pacing around with anger.

He scattered his hair and looked at me. His handsome face was looking very scary and I drew back from him immediately when our eyes met.

"I'm a doctor, this is one of my duties. I couldn't just watch him die_"

"Enough Freda, there isn't much to say about this. The only option you have right now is to get rid of him," Darren said, cutting me off.

I only rolled my eyes as I got a little bold, I couldn't believe him.

"Why would I do that?" I asked him.

"You don't know?" Darren asked back as his chest rose and fell in anger.

"He cannot remember who he is and what happened to him. At Least, let me keep him with me until he recovers his memory. That's all I want, I cannot watch him go back to the streets. His enemies might be out there," I explained, trying to sound convincing but Darren wasn't ready to hear any of that. All he wanted was for the stranger to get out of my apartment to wherever he wanted to.

"No, Freda, it's very risky to do this. Do you want to lose the license you worked your ass off for a mere stranger? Maybe you ain't telling me something," Darren said, looking into my eyes.

"You dare not think that way, I have been a faithful girlfriend okay?" I said to him,

"So what's the meaning of this? Why do you want to do this?" Darren asked me again.

"I'm done explaining, I'm keeping him okay. If you would not help out, it's fine," I spat angrily.

"How dare you, Freda?" Darren asked, getting more enraged but I didn't care.

I had already made the decision hoping that he would have no other choice than support me.

"Seriously?" Darren asked with a light mocking laughter that I knew didn't come from his heart. I knew it didn't because of how angry it was which left me scared to my guts.

"Get rid of him or forget about us. Including the upcoming wedding. Think about this," Darren dropped the bombshell which made my jaw drop in disbelief, how could he say such like our wedding isn't anything.

It got me thinking for a moment the kind of man I have been dating.

"Darren," I tried to call and hold him back but he had already walked out of the door and slammed it forcefully which left me weak as I knelt before the door thinking of what to do next. How can everything come to an end Just like that.
