Chapter 3

Auteur: Through Meteorites
Isaac Somerville walked in wearing my suit at the engagement banquet. He stood sheepishly between Hannah and Mia with bloodshot eyes and said, "I've never gotten to wear anything this nice. I only wanted to try it on, Theo."

I looked at him coldly and said, "Take it off."

Isaac gripped the hem tightly as tears streamed down his face, making no move to take it off.

"You stole from me, yet you still have the nerve to play the victim, huh?" I laughed out of sheer exasperation. I then raised my hand and slapped Isaac hard across the face.

Mia instantly grabbed my wrist. "Have you lost your mind, Theo?"

Hannah glanced down at Isaac's red and swollen cheek, her tone hardening. "Apologize to Isaac right now, Theo."

Mia's expression hardened before she gave me a sudden, hard shove.

I slammed into the corner of the table, turning pale from the pain.

Mia didn't bother to help me up, though. She said coldly, "We might dote on you, but that doesn't mean you get to push people around, Theo."

I stood in the corner wearing a plain suit that evening, while Isaac wore my suit, with Hannah and Mia standing protectively on either side of him. He looked more like the heir of the family than I did.

It was the first time I had ever been put in my place by them. It was also then that I realized that their promise to protect me for the rest of my life meant nothing the moment Isaac shed a tear.

Isaac decided he liked my room, so I had to pack up and move to the guest room. He wanted my music studio, so they handed my piano over to him as well. He grew envious of the ruby ring, something Mom had put on my finger herself before she died, so he wept the entire night when I refused to hand it over to him.

Mia immediately took hold of my wrist the following day, snarling, "When did you become so selfish, Theo?"

Then, one of them pinned me in place while the other took the ring off my finger, causing the skin on my knuckle to scrape raw and blood to run along the back of my hand.

Isaac slipped the ring onto his finger, smiling sweetly. "You're not upset with me, are you, Theo?"

I was mad at him, but everybody acted like I was the one making a fuss over nothing.

Dad was still alive back then. He blew up at Hannah and Mia for the very first time. "You've been supported by the Webster family so that you can look after Theo, not to join forces with the housekeeper's son to go against him!"

Hannah lowered her gaze and remained silent.

Mia talked back to Dad for the very first time. "Isaac might be the housekeeper's son, but that doesn't mean you can use his background to humiliate him, Mr. Webster."

That was the exact day everything started falling apart for the Webster family. Dad's company lost its projects one after another, and his car suffered brake failure late at night. He was resuscitated for an entire day, but he still didn't make it.

I was still trembling from sobbing so much when Hannah suddenly approached me with an equity trust agreement. "You're in no condition to deal with this, so you should leave the Webster family's business to me, Theo."

I refused to sign the agreement, so Mia cornered me in the study. "Do you have to ruin the Webster family before you'll let this go? Hannah is just trying to help you. Why do you always see Isaac in the worst possible light?"

Isaac suddenly walked in with a scalding bowl of soup on the night they pressured me to sign the agreement. "You should have some, Theo."

I refused to have it.

Isaac suddenly tripped and fell all by himself, causing the scalding soup to splash onto the back of his hand, leaving a large, flushed burn.

Mia immediately spotted Isaac trembling while crying the moment she rushed over. "Theo didn't mean to do it, Mia. I was the one who didn't hold the bowl properly."

Mia grew furious the more Isaac defended me. She looked at me with disgust, as if I were someone cruel and vicious. "You make me sick, Theo!"

That day marked the very first time Mia had hit me.

I could feel my ear buzzing the moment the slap landed, but what hurt more than that was seeing Hannah standing by the door, doing nothing. She merely furrowed her brow and said, "Apologize to Isaac, Theo."

I did all of the apologizing from that day onward. I had to apologize when Isaac lost his watch, when he fell down the stairs, and even when he got sick. I was the one to blame for everything whenever he cried.

It wasn't until the day the Webster residence burned down that everything changed. Isaac wanted to see the studio Mom had left behind, and even though I had refused him, he still went in anyway.

I ran back inside to save the family portrait when the fire suddenly started in the studio, the smoke so thick that I couldn't even keep my eyes open.

I felt a piercing pain shoot through my right eye when the beam collapsed. I was in so much pain that I nearly passed out. I crawled out of the fire, and the first thing I saw was Hannah comforting Isaac and Mia removing her coat to wrap it around him.

Isaac had only suffered a minor burn on the back of his hand, yet they actually questioned me as if I had done something unforgivable. "Why did you lock the door, Theo? Do you hate Isaac so much that you wanted him dead?"

I covered my right eye, which was bleeding continuously. I couldn't even utter a single word at that point. That fire burned down the Webster residence, which also burned away the last bit of my innocence.

Dad called out after me. "Theo!"I didn't slow down. I was too late for everything in the past, so this time, I couldn't afford to be slow for even a second.I made my way to the surveillance room and noticed heavy smoke seeping through the cracks of the door. I immediately covered my nose and mouth and barked an order before the bodyguards could kick the door open. "Go cut the power first! Get in through the side entrance, and don't let anyone get away!"It was a few minutes later that the bodyguards dragged someone out of the surveillance room. He had soot all over his face and was still clutching half a bucket of gasoline.I recognized that person at once. He was Gina's nephew. In the past, after Dad's accident, he was the one who suddenly withdrew a large amount of money and left Halport. I didn't pay much attention to it back then, but looking back now, every action was connected. He was pinned to the ground, still struggling frantically. "I didn't do anything! Ms. Shaw told

I couldn't stop my voice from trembling as I said, "Something's wrong with the car, Dad."Dad's expression turned grim. "How could you possibly know that?"I couldn't tell him about the events ten years in the future, so I could only hold on tightly to his sleeve and say, "You just have to trust me this once, Dad."Dad looked at my pale complexion, remained silent for a few seconds, and nodded. "Alright, Theo."Just then, Dad's assistant, John Dalton, walked in and said, "Your ride is waiting downstairs, Mr. Sean. Hannah has also arrived at Valenmere, insisting that you have to be there to sign the paperwork yourself."I felt my heart sink when I heard Hannah's name. It went down the exact same way in my past. Dad had no intention of going down there personally, so Hannah called and claimed that a critical error in the paperwork required his immediate presence. I actually talked Dad into it back then, saying, "Hannah has always been so careful with her work, so it must be a real

Isaac could barely walk as he was taken away because he was crying so hard. He kept glancing back at Hannah and Mia, but neither of them could save him. They were held back by the bodyguards; Dad was still there, and I was no longer the gullible Theo who would give in to them anymore.Dad walked me to my room after the banquet wrapped up. He stood in the doorway in silence for a long time before asking, "Did they push you around a lot before this, Theo?"I felt a lump in my throat. In the past, he hadn't asked me that until he was already lying in a hospital bed. His hands were so cold back then that I could never get them warm, no matter how long I held them. In this life, he was still standing right in front of me, alive and well.I threw my arms around him and said, "You can't trust them from now on, Dad. Hannah and Mia are bad news."Dad patted my back gently. "I'll believe in your judgment, Theo."I closed my eyes. I had finally protected the person who meant the most to me.

Upon hearing that, Hannah went pale.Just then, Dad arrived. Pushing open the banquet hall doors, he let out a sigh of relief when he saw me standing there unscathed. Then his eyes fell on Hannah and Mia, pinned back by the bodyguards, and Isaac—crying and disheveled in my suit—being hauled away. Dad's expression immediately hardened as he asked, "What's going on here?"I walked over to Dad and pointed at Isaac, saying, "Isaac stole my suit and wore it, Dad."Dad turned to look at me.In the past, I was always afraid that Dad would see me as willful or unreasonable, think I was making things difficult for him, or view me as immature—so I bottled up a lot of my grievances and stayed silent. I refused to endure it any longer. I was going to expose Hannah and the others. As the rightful heir of the Webster family, if I got pushed around, I had every right to have someone take my side.Dad reached out and patted my head. "You don't have to give in if you don't want to, Theo."Isa

I received another message from the 18-year-old me. "I'm willing to trust you, though. If you're actually my future self ten years down the line, then I'll be willing to hand my body over to you this time. I'd like you to make the call for me."In that instant, everything around me began to distort. I opened my eyes, and I had returned to the engagement banquet ten years ago. I noticed that my right eye was fine and my ring finger was still intact. Isaac was standing before me in my suit, timidly positioned between Hannah and Mia.I lowered my head, looked at my intact finger, and let out a sudden laugh. I then raised my hand and summoned the bodyguards. "Get Isaac to the changing room and strip him of that suit. Have him pay the full price if anything gets damaged."Isaac instantly paled.Mia grabbed my wrist tightly and snapped, "Have you lost your mind, Theo?"I slapped Mia hard across the face and snarled, "Who said you could touch me? You've been raised by the Webster family

I found it utterly baffling when Isaac actually cried and said he was frightened by the whole situation. He even wanted me to be punished for it.Mia remained silent for a long time before she picked up the knife on the table. "Isaac only wants one of your fingers, so once this is over, we'll pretend none of this happened, Theo."I looked at her and suddenly burst out laughing. Mia had once taken a knife for me, yet she was now holding a knife and pinning my hand in place. She brought the blade down, and my left ring finger dropped to the floor.I was shaking uncontrollably from the pain, but I could still hear Isaac chuckling softly. "I just wanted you to experience what it feels like to lose something, Theo."I stopped wiping the table as the memories caught up. Hannah and Mia were standing right in front of me—one was quiet, while the other had an awful look on her face. They probably recalled what happened back then as well. They still looked pristine and respectable after ten
