"Samara..."Colonel Frederick spoke softly to his wife who stood by the door to bid him farewell on his new mission. There was an ongoing civil unrest in a neighbouring state, and a peace enforcement mission has been assigned to his unit. The thought of not being around Samara for a few weeks didn't sit too well with him. Everyday he spent with Samara as his wife, made him fall even deeper in love with her. His only wish was for her to meet him halfway."Please take care of yourself”. He says and kisses her lightly on the forehead, and to his great surprise she lets him. She just stood quietly by his side lost in her own thoughts. She has been acting a bit differently ever since they moved to the city. She no longer makes nasty comments about her hatred for him. Things were seeming a bit hopeful in their marriage, but she was yet to open up to him. He was willing to give her time. They had forever to get there."Samara, are you okay?" He asked with worry laced in his voice, wondering w
If there was one thing Damien Kesley hated to do, it was definitely shopping. As much as he didn’t mind being surrounded by beautiful women and having them drooling at him, the thought of going through clothes to select the best fit was a onerous task. He wondered what thrilled ladies about it. It was a tedious chore, and could take the whole day. But he had promised Sebastien he was going to help pick out the suits they would wear to meet his prospective in-laws. Since they wore the same size, it wouldn't be difficult. His best friend and partner in crime has finally decided to tie the knot, and has gotten engaged to his lover. Leaving him the only bachelor in his circle of friends. Damien has always envisioned marriage and children. He was thirty, a successful architect, and a good looking man who could get any woman of his choice, but he still enjoyed the chase and attention. He was also convinced he hasn’t met the woman that could make him commit. Well, there was one woman though
For a moment Samara just stood by the car contemplating what Damien had asked. Her driver, Sylvester who had stepped out of the car immediately he sighted her come out of the mall, stood too, looking at her quizzically, wondering what was wrong with her. Finally, she made it to the door, and Sylvester stepped up to it as he grasped the door handle and pulled it open for her."Is everything ok Ma'am?" He asked concerned."Take me home". Samara said dryly, and he quickly closed the door of the passenger seat before turning back around to his driver's seat. As he started the engine, Samara shook her head slowly. She didn’t know if seeing Damien again was such a good idea. All of a sudden the thought made her apprehensive. She knew deep down she wanted to see him again. In fact she was looking forward to it just a little bit too much…and that was really scary. The journey home would take about twenty minutes, but the silence in the car was deafening, and she needed some sort of noise to d
The city always takes her breath away, Samara thought, as it stretches beyond the taxi windows, rolling past like giant scenery being unfurled by an invisible stagehand. The sight always marvelled her. But today, she wasn't taking too deep the beauty of the city, her thoughts were all over the place. Inside the cab, Samara was quiet and anxious. She had finally decided to meet with Damien. Just this once, she told herself. Her servants were surprised when she had told them she was going out all by herself. She knew what she was doing was risky, she could see a hint of suspicion in their eyes when she left the house and boarded a cab. Traffic surged along the lanes and people throng the streets, most of them crossing roads whenever the traffic lights change. It was past six in the evening, and everyone seemed to be heading home, except her. She was going to meet a total stranger who had asked her to come, in a city she was new in.What am I doing? She thought quietly, the thought mak
Samara's demeanor was refreshing, especially since she had seemed so apprehensive at the mall. Maybe it was the wine. Whatever it was, he loved it. Damien thought as he refilled her cup with wine. He had taken her to a nice restaurant and he was happy to see she felt more relaxed in his presence. His finger brushed hers as he passed her the refilled wine glass. That’s all it took to ignite him. His hand trembled, as he took a sip of his own wine. He watched her the whole time. Her eyes were so big, her lashes so dark and heavy—everything seemed to slow down when she blinked. His insides smoldered and he gulped his wine hard.He looked around. He had to. If he stared at her any longer he was afraid he’d freak her out."So when did you move to the city?" He asked her, interested in learning more about her. Their conversation on their way to the restaurant has been about every other thing other than themselves."Almost a month ago" She answered simply."To think that I was planning to go
Samara was not particularly proud of what she did last night. It was out of character, irresponsible, and unscrupulous. Last night has left a mark on her soul that she feared the stain would never wash away. But it also left her wanting more, that she thought of nothing else but meeting Damien again. The way he had touched her and made her feel last night has ignited a fire in her and left a burning need for his touch. Her eyes suddenly fell on the envelope on her breakfast tray that Madeleine had brought in for her this morning. She knew what it meant, that plain envelope was addressed to her. Her husband, Frederick Smyth, had written to her. But she wasn't curious to read it, she wasn't bothered to know what it said. She considered ignoring it, pretending the post had gone astray and she had never received it. She explored this idea while she took her breakfast, letting the envelope lie where the maid had left it on the tray.Samara pursed her lips and let her eyes wander about her
Samara knew she shouldn't have worn that green dress. Or put so much effort into looking good. She had come to meet Damien with plans of ending things between them. But within a few minutes of them meeting, he had made her feel like the most beautiful woman on earth and found a way to convince her to follow him home. And she had stupidly agreed. What does this guy have over her, that she finds it hard to say no. “This is wrong, I shouldn't be here". She says immediately they got to Damien's apartment.“Do you trust me Samara?" She looks at him dumbfounded. Trust him? She didn't even trust herself at the moment.“Why are we here Damien?" She probes.“I just wanted you to see where I live". He says, gesturing her to sit on a sofa in the living room. “I feel we'll be more comfortable to talk here". He added as they both lowered themselves on the sofa.“I can't stay long". She quickly says, and he nods in agreement.“What can I get you?" He quickly asks Samara shakes her head. She didn
Samara slams the door of her bedroom so hard the walls tremble , but still not as bad as her whole body was trembling. What in the world was she doing? She thought sadly within herself. Immediately her eyes caught the letter her husband had sent her, she sighs and plops heavily on the bed, as tears began raining down her face. What kind of woman was she becoming? An adulterous one? Frederick didn't deserve this at all. No matter how their marriage happened, he didn't deserve this at all. She kept crying uncontrollably until a knock on her door makes her stop abruptly. “Who's there?"“It's me ma'am". Madeleine replies quickly.“What do you want? I didn't send for you". Samara says trying so hard to shroud her voice which was croaked from crying.“Just checking up on you ma'am". She answers.“I'm fine Madeleine, you can go to bed".There's a brief silence, as Madeleine hesitates to respond.“Okay. Good night ma'am". Madeleine finally says, reluctantly. The next morning, Samara wakes
