Chapter 2

Autor: Shirley
Cleo completely snapped.

She grabbed a steak knife from the table and lunged at me.

"Do you really want to fucking die?!"

Flynn and his men turned pale. They lunged forward to stop her.

But I was faster.

A second before the tip of the knife could pierce my throat, my gun barrel was pressed perfectly against her slightly rounded belly. The cold metal rested right against the thin fabric.

"Take one more step." My voice was as calm as if I were talking about the weather. "And I guarantee this baby will not live past tonight."

Cleo froze completely. The knife dropped to the ground with a clatter.

Cold sweat dripped down her cheeks, and her hands were shaking.

Looking at her face, I could not help but want to laugh.

With her hair slightly damp, she actually did look a bit like a deranged beauty.

This replacement really did look a lot like me before the accident.

But a fake is a fake. She did not even have the guts to risk her life.

For these past five years, I had played the harmless little bird by Flynn's side for so long that he forgot exactly what kind of monster he had married.

"Audrey!"

Flynn let out a low growl and pulled Cleo behind him in one swift motion.

His hand covered her belly in an almost instinctive protective posture.

"Put the gun down. Stop causing a scene."

I raised an eyebrow. "Who is causing a scene?"

"Did you not let her come right to my face and provoke me?"

"She challenged me in front of the entire family. Should she not pay the price?"

After a long silence, Flynn let out a heavy sigh, as if he had no choice. His voice softened.

"She is carrying the family's heir." He spoke in a low voice. "I will pay the price for her."

I did not expect him to say that.

As soon as he finished speaking, he walked forward, pressing himself right up against the gun barrel.

He grabbed the barrel firmly, aimed it at his left shoulder, and pressed down on my finger to pull the trigger.

A muffled bang echoed. The bullet tore through his shoulder, and blood instantly soaked his white shirt.

I stared at the rapidly spreading red stain, my eyes burning.

But he did not even flinch.

Instead, he used his bloody fingers to affectionately rub my lips.

"Are you satisfied, my queen? Are you calm now?"

"Flynn! Are you crazy?!"

Cleo screamed and lunged forward, her face covered in tears.

Flynn pushed me away. Frowning through the pain, he pulled her into his arms and rushed out of the banquet hall without looking back.

The girl struggled the whole way. Tearful curses drifted faintly from the end of the hallway.

I walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down.

Downstairs, Cleo was screaming hysterically that she was going to kill me while crying and holding Flynn's bleeding shoulder.

And Flynn, from beginning to end, used his good hand to carefully protect her waist and belly.

The two of them got into the armored sedan, clinging to each other.

I was left standing there, gripping the gun barrel that still held his body heat. I was frozen for a long time.

Men and their feelings are truly cheap and pathetic.

Once upon a time, Flynn and I were huge rivals who fought to the death on the streets. Today he would hijack my shipments, and tomorrow I would torch his club.

I thought he wanted nothing more than to chop me up and feed me to the dogs.

But strangely enough, he later fell in love with me. And now he turned around and slept with someone else.

I pressed my hand to my chest, fighting down that dull ache.

This was the part that left me even more speechless. During these past five years, I had actually loved him, too.

That afternoon, I sat in my dim bedroom, holding my phone and staring at the screen.

My real lover, Riccardo, had been searching the whole world for me for these past five years.

But Flynn had planted false clues to lure him to Europe.

He also used the excuse of "protecting me from my enemies" to put GPS trackers in all my personal belongings.

Every one of my calls was monitored, and every message I sent was intercepted.

For five whole years, Flynn had kept me trapped on this isolated estate, making me the only caged bird here.

As I was lost in thought, the screen lit up with an anonymous encrypted message.

It was a set of photos.

In the photos, Cleo was lying on the bed in her private villa. Flynn sat on the edge of the bed, pouring stretch mark cream into his palm.

His eyes were full of tenderness as he carefully rubbed it in circles on Cleo's rounded belly.

The next photo was in the kitchen. With his shoulder wound barely bandaged, he was making a healthy meal for her at the stove with one hand.

Next came a voice memo. Cleo's triumphant voice rang out.

"The old men in the family said he used to worship you. They said you were his untouchable angel."

"So what? Men only like fresh, young bodies."

"I do not care about titles at all. Whoever holds his leash wins."

"By the way, I sent you a big gift. I hope you enjoy it."

Just as she finished speaking, my door was pushed open.

The family lawyer awkwardly forced himself to walk in, handing me a manila envelope.

Inside were divorce papers with a generous financial settlement.

In the signature spot for the husband, Flynn's name was already signed.

The strokes were sharp and aggressive. It was definitely his handwriting.

I stared at that familiar handwriting for a long time. This time, I genuinely laughed out loud.

Did Cleo think I would hold onto the papers, refuse to sign them, and desperately cling to him?

But this was exactly what I wanted. I could not wait to leave this cage.

I neatly signed my name, took a picture, and sent it to Flynn.

With the caption, "Enjoy your marriage."

Less than half a second later, my phone started vibrating wildly.

Late at night, a few days later, Flynn asked to meet me again. The location was set at a hidden underground bar owned by his family.Everything was different now. Even the alcohol tasted different. He asked me, "Audrey, what price do I have to pay for you to forgive me?"I casually swirled my wine glass. "You have taken over so much of my territory. How about you start by giving me all the casinos and legitimate businesses under your control?"He did not even blink. He immediately had the lawyer behind him hand over the documents and signed all those massive assets over to me right on the spot.I smiled."You forced me to kneel and bow my head, and you let Cleo slap me across the face."He gently took my hand and used it to slap himself hard across the face twice.Seeing I had no reaction, he reached out for the dagger on the table.I raised an eyebrow and looked at him."What happened to avenging your kid?"Flynn immediately shook his head in panic."Only you matter! If you feel like

As we walked out the doors of the banquet hall, the sudden roar of an engine came from below the steps.I looked up and saw Cleo sitting in the driver's seat of a red sports car. With the gas pedal floored, she was speeding straight toward me.Behind the windshield, her face was flushed bright red, and her eyes were completely bloodshot. She looked absolutely crazy."Audrey!!! Go to hell!!!"The piercing screech of tires rolling over the cracks in the stairs filled the entire entrance. But she suddenly screamed and slammed on the brakes.Because Flynn had rushed out and stood right in front of me, blocking my body. The tires scraped across the ground, sending up a thick burning smell, and slid forward another half meter. Finally, the scorching hot front bumper stopped barely an inch from Flynn's knees."Flynn, you absolute maniac!"Cleo stumbled and kicked open the car door, falling to the ground. She broke down, holding her head and crying bitterly."I gave you my whole heart and soul

Riccardo and I walked arm in arm into the exclusive Syndicate gala. This was not just a banquet. It was a declaration to the entire underground world that the former Principessa was back.Everyone looked at me, their faces full of disbelief."Audrey? Where on earth has she been for these past five years?""Riccardo almost tore the West Coast apart looking for her. I thought she was dead a long time ago."Just as everyone was whispering, Flynn barged in.The hall was filled with guests, yet he, a family Don, was an absolute mess.He was wearing that same crumpled, dust-covered shirt.Somewhere along the way, he had taken a hit to his side. It was probably from a shootout with other gangs while desperately searching for me over the past few days. He looked like he had just crawled out of the ruins. He acted like he could not see the shocked stares around him. He walked straight through the crowd right up to me.The clinking of glasses and the jazz music all came to a sudden halt.Everyon

Cleo's smile froze on her face."What?""Audrey's wedding rings, the ones you took from her bedroom."Flynn said, "Give them back."The room was quiet for a long time. The color on Cleo's face completely drained away bit by bit, and her lips began to tremble. She sat up violently. Her arm scraped against the bedrail, seeping more blood."Flynn, what do you mean?! I swallowed all those pills!""I almost died! And the very first thing you ask when you walk through that door is about that woman's rings?!""Hand them over."The man did not even blink. His voice had no emotion whatsoever.Cleo felt like she had been slapped. She froze completely. After a long moment, she let out a broken scream. The knuckles clutching the bedsheets were bone white as she cried her heart out."Flynn, did you ever really love me?! Even just a little bit?!""Will I never measure up to her in your eyes?!"Flynn looked at her face, twisted by ugly jealousy. He just felt sick to his stomach. There was not a singl

Flynn turned the entire city upside down.Private airports, ports, the underground black market, and even the smuggling routes were searched inside and out.Absolutely nothing. He even had people check the emergency records of every hospital in the city, afraid she had gotten hurt.Still nothing.Audrey was as if she had been completely wiped off the face of the earth. The broken security cameras at the estate were finally repaired by the security team.Standing in the empty living room, he stared at the final frame on the screen. At the estate's main gate, a man in a black suit opened the car door for her.She bent over and got in. Her side profile was perfectly illuminated by the porch light. The man's face was cut off just outside the frame. But Flynn recognized that back.A chill instantly spread through his body. The man's hands trembled uncontrollably.Only one freezing thought, like plunging into an ice cave, remained in his mind.It is over. He found her.Riccardo, the man who

A tall, broad-shouldered man stood on the steps, his silhouette blocking the sunlight. His facial features could not be seen clearly, but a cold, commanding presence washed over me before his voice did.He was still clutching a crumpled screenshot in his hand, showing the exact street view from my live video. He looked down at me, raised his hand, and tucked the loose strands of hair behind my ear.We had not seen each other in five years. His very first words were painfully hoarse."You have lost weight, my Principessa."It was Riccardo. My eyes suddenly stung with tears. Then I grabbed his wrist and smiled again. My live video had not been for nothing. He got my signal."Riccardo, take me home."An SUV was already waiting at the door. The body was riddled with bullet holes, clearly having just forced its way through the estate's outer security perimeter. We climbed in, the door slammed shut with a bang, and the tires squealed violently against the ground as the car sped off, kicking
