Chapter 4

Auteur: Shirley
When Flynn ran almost to the safe area, he turned around and did not see me. He looked like he had seen a ghost.

"Audrey!"

Flynn shoved Cleo out of his arms, leaving her in the smoke-filled hallway. He charged back into the sea of fire like a madman, grabbed my wrist tight, and dragged me out of that air vent just as it was about to collapse.

We tumbled onto the grass outside the warehouse. He was covered in ash, his face blackened by the smoke, and his chest heaving violently. Yet he stared at me without blinking, as if to confirm I was still alive.

Behind us, Cleo's screams and violent coughing echoed out. Only then did he turn back and rush in to save her.

But it was too late. The smoke was too toxic.

Cleo had inhaled too much toxic smoke. She was carried out curled up in agony, her hands tightly clutching her lower belly.

"Flynn! I hate you to death!"

"You killed our baby! It is all your fault and that woman's! Go kill her and avenge our baby!"

Flynn lowered his eyes, showing a profound grief I had not seen in five years.

But when he turned to look at me, there was nothing left but coldness.

I smiled at him. "Are you crying?"

"How rare. This is the first time I have ever seen the ruthless Don shed tears."

"If your heart aches so much, why did you have to put on a show and come back to drag me out? Now you have ruined everything for both of us, and everyone is full of regrets."

Flynn's eyes instantly turned bloodshot. For the first time ever, he raised his hand at me.

His chest heaved violently as he gritted his teeth, squeezing the words out of his throat.

"Do not push me when you have already won!"

"Audrey, stop using my love for you to push my limits!"

That hand hovered in the air, trembling for a long time, before finally smashing hard against the wall.

"Get lost. I do not want to look at you right now."

After that day, Flynn never returned to the estate.

He used to be so possessive that he wanted to know my whereabouts every single hour. Now, my phone was completely silent.

Later I found out that Cleo had a miscarriage that night.

And the next time I saw them was on the day she was discharged from the hospital. In the family church, they held a memorial service for the baby.

I was forcibly "invited" over by several burly bodyguards. Before leaving the house, they even injected me with a sedative to stop me from fighting back.

As soon as she saw me, hatred burst from Cleo's eyes.

"Get on your knees! Bow to the cross and apologize to my baby!"

I sneered without a word and stood my ground, though the drugs were kicking in and making me weak. Then I looked at Flynn.

This time, he did not stand firmly in front of me like he had for the past five years. Instead, his face was tense as he stepped behind me.

Then, I felt a hard kick to the back of my knees. My already weak legs gave out, and I slammed to the floor on my knees.

A large hand pressed against the back of my head, leaving no room to fight back. It forced my head down toward the cross.

My vision went dark for a second. The man's low, hoarse voice came from above my head.

"Cleo has not eaten or drank anything in three days. She said she would not unless you came to atone."

"Audrey, you killed this baby. This is what you owe her."

I was forced to the floor, staring at the small memorial plaque.

Just as I thought. He really cared that much about that replacement and the baby.

Cleo walked over to me with a cold laugh and raised her hand high.

Flynn instinctively reached out to stop her, but she questioned him with red eyes.

"What, do you feel sorry for her?"

"Then what about our baby? Who ever felt sorry for the baby?"

Slap! The backhand finally landed heavily on my face.

My cheek went numb, and my ears were ringing. Because of the sedative, I did not even have the strength to lift my hand.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Flynn's hand hanging by his side clench into a fist. The veins on the back of his hand bulged, and he was shaking hard.

But this was not enough.

They took me back to the estate again.

Like she was patrolling her territory, Cleo kicked open my bedroom door.

She dragged out my wedding dress and grabbed scissors, cutting it into shreds. Then she opened my jewelry box, put every single diamond inside on herself, and admired her reflection in the mirror, turning side to side.

Cleo shook her wrists, laughing with extreme arrogance.

"Flynn and I are going to an island for our honeymoon. He promised to give me another baby."

"Right now, you are the most worthless piece of trash here."

From beginning to end, I just kept my eyes lowered and did not say a word.

It was not until the door slammed shut and Cleo's arrogant laughter drifted up from downstairs.

"Have the guards call me Donna. I want to hear them say it!"

By the time I walked out to the balcony, they had already boarded the private helicopter parked on the lawn.

Cleo provocatively turned her head and gave me the middle finger. The diamonds between her fingers caught the sunlight, reflecting a blinding glare.

The helicopter blades spun, whipping up strong winds that made my skirt flutter wildly.

I suddenly laughed out loud. The emotions I had suppressed for so long finally found an outlet.

I leaned happily against the railing, waving goodbye to them with a beaming smile.

I held up my phone, looked into the camera, and spoke gently, word by word.

"I miss you, Riccardo."

The moment those words dropped, out in the sky, the steady roar of the helicopter rotors suddenly shifted off course.

Late at night, a few days later, Flynn asked to meet me again. The location was set at a hidden underground bar owned by his family.Everything was different now. Even the alcohol tasted different. He asked me, "Audrey, what price do I have to pay for you to forgive me?"I casually swirled my wine glass. "You have taken over so much of my territory. How about you start by giving me all the casinos and legitimate businesses under your control?"He did not even blink. He immediately had the lawyer behind him hand over the documents and signed all those massive assets over to me right on the spot.I smiled."You forced me to kneel and bow my head, and you let Cleo slap me across the face."He gently took my hand and used it to slap himself hard across the face twice.Seeing I had no reaction, he reached out for the dagger on the table.I raised an eyebrow and looked at him."What happened to avenging your kid?"Flynn immediately shook his head in panic."Only you matter! If you feel like

As we walked out the doors of the banquet hall, the sudden roar of an engine came from below the steps.I looked up and saw Cleo sitting in the driver's seat of a red sports car. With the gas pedal floored, she was speeding straight toward me.Behind the windshield, her face was flushed bright red, and her eyes were completely bloodshot. She looked absolutely crazy."Audrey!!! Go to hell!!!"The piercing screech of tires rolling over the cracks in the stairs filled the entire entrance. But she suddenly screamed and slammed on the brakes.Because Flynn had rushed out and stood right in front of me, blocking my body. The tires scraped across the ground, sending up a thick burning smell, and slid forward another half meter. Finally, the scorching hot front bumper stopped barely an inch from Flynn's knees."Flynn, you absolute maniac!"Cleo stumbled and kicked open the car door, falling to the ground. She broke down, holding her head and crying bitterly."I gave you my whole heart and soul

Riccardo and I walked arm in arm into the exclusive Syndicate gala. This was not just a banquet. It was a declaration to the entire underground world that the former Principessa was back.Everyone looked at me, their faces full of disbelief."Audrey? Where on earth has she been for these past five years?""Riccardo almost tore the West Coast apart looking for her. I thought she was dead a long time ago."Just as everyone was whispering, Flynn barged in.The hall was filled with guests, yet he, a family Don, was an absolute mess.He was wearing that same crumpled, dust-covered shirt.Somewhere along the way, he had taken a hit to his side. It was probably from a shootout with other gangs while desperately searching for me over the past few days. He looked like he had just crawled out of the ruins. He acted like he could not see the shocked stares around him. He walked straight through the crowd right up to me.The clinking of glasses and the jazz music all came to a sudden halt.Everyon

Cleo's smile froze on her face."What?""Audrey's wedding rings, the ones you took from her bedroom."Flynn said, "Give them back."The room was quiet for a long time. The color on Cleo's face completely drained away bit by bit, and her lips began to tremble. She sat up violently. Her arm scraped against the bedrail, seeping more blood."Flynn, what do you mean?! I swallowed all those pills!""I almost died! And the very first thing you ask when you walk through that door is about that woman's rings?!""Hand them over."The man did not even blink. His voice had no emotion whatsoever.Cleo felt like she had been slapped. She froze completely. After a long moment, she let out a broken scream. The knuckles clutching the bedsheets were bone white as she cried her heart out."Flynn, did you ever really love me?! Even just a little bit?!""Will I never measure up to her in your eyes?!"Flynn looked at her face, twisted by ugly jealousy. He just felt sick to his stomach. There was not a singl

Flynn turned the entire city upside down.Private airports, ports, the underground black market, and even the smuggling routes were searched inside and out.Absolutely nothing. He even had people check the emergency records of every hospital in the city, afraid she had gotten hurt.Still nothing.Audrey was as if she had been completely wiped off the face of the earth. The broken security cameras at the estate were finally repaired by the security team.Standing in the empty living room, he stared at the final frame on the screen. At the estate's main gate, a man in a black suit opened the car door for her.She bent over and got in. Her side profile was perfectly illuminated by the porch light. The man's face was cut off just outside the frame. But Flynn recognized that back.A chill instantly spread through his body. The man's hands trembled uncontrollably.Only one freezing thought, like plunging into an ice cave, remained in his mind.It is over. He found her.Riccardo, the man who

A tall, broad-shouldered man stood on the steps, his silhouette blocking the sunlight. His facial features could not be seen clearly, but a cold, commanding presence washed over me before his voice did.He was still clutching a crumpled screenshot in his hand, showing the exact street view from my live video. He looked down at me, raised his hand, and tucked the loose strands of hair behind my ear.We had not seen each other in five years. His very first words were painfully hoarse."You have lost weight, my Principessa."It was Riccardo. My eyes suddenly stung with tears. Then I grabbed his wrist and smiled again. My live video had not been for nothing. He got my signal."Riccardo, take me home."An SUV was already waiting at the door. The body was riddled with bullet holes, clearly having just forced its way through the estate's outer security perimeter. We climbed in, the door slammed shut with a bang, and the tires squealed violently against the ground as the car sped off, kicking
