Chapter 1

作者: Phoenix
The Gambino family's highest rule: every Don must be married before taking office.

So the moment I came back from studying abroad, my father sent me to intern at the family company run by my fiancé, Ethan Clark—to prepare me for taking over family operations, pave the way for me to become the next Don of the Gambinos, and, you know, build some chemistry between us while we were at it.

I thought it was just a formality, so I went alone. No guards. No backup.

But the second I walked in, I saw some provocatively dressed woman surrounded by everyone, ordering people around like she owned the place—get her tea, get her water, no questions asked.

I glanced at the nameplates on their chests. Content manager. Executive manager. The whole senior leadership team.

They were all standing there, smiling stiffly, handing her things, calling her "Mrs. Clark" with this fake reverence.

I froze. Raised an eyebrow.

She's Mrs. Clark?

I told myself not to jump to conclusions. I pushed down the heat rising in my chest and kept watching.

She was dripping in designer labels, loaded with flashy jewelry, even her nails crusted with diamonds. She leaned back in a plush chair, flipping through a contract like it was a takeout menu.

Then she let out a sneer. Ripped it in half.

"This is so boring! Get me a novel or something."

Someone behind her gasped. "Mrs. Clark—that contract was worth two hundred million!"

"So what?" Georgia Taylor's face went cold in an instant, her eyes slicing toward him like daggers.

The others rushed in to smooth things over, practically tripping over their own tongues.

"Mrs. Clark tore it up beautifully! The whole company is going to be yours someday anyway—what's two hundred million compared to that?"

"Exactly! The CEO spoils you so much. All the money he makes is basically yours to spend."

Georgia lapped it up like honey. Her smirk stretched wide.

Then she looked up, and her finger landed on me.

"You. Go get me some tuna sushi. The tuna has to be flown in today from Ginza, Tokyo—only the most tender center cut. And get me a cup of Blue Mountain coffee. By the time it hits my lips, it better be exactly forty degrees. Otherwise, don't bother coming back."

I frowned.

"I'm here to work. Not to be your errand girl."

Georgia's smile dropped. She fixed me with that cold look again.

"Do you know who I am? I'm Ethan's wife. You don't listen to me? I'll have him fire your ass before you can blink."

"You sure you're Ethan's wife?"

"Of course I am. Scared now? Maybe if you stand right there and scream 'I'm a stupid bitch' loud enough for everyone to hear, I might go easy on you." Her chin was so high she could've scraped the ceiling.

I let out a cold laugh. Calm. Flat. "You sure are."

Georgia's face went crimson. She opened her mouth to lay into me, but I'd already pulled out my phone and dialed Ethan.

"Your 'Mrs. Clark' is throwing her weight around under your name. She's trying to take my ring. Care to explain?"

His voice came through, cold as a winter draft.

"Who the hell are you? Get lost."

Georgia doubled over laughing, clutching her stomach.

"Look at you—who do you think you are, calling Ethan? What, thought you could seduce him? Let me tell you something—Ethan only loves me. Only me."

She whipped out her own phone, called him right back, and put on this tearful little act.

"Ethan... one of your interns bullied me..."

His voice was nothing like what I'd just heard. Soft. Tender. Like she was made of glass.

"Baby, don't be upset. Anyone who dares to bully you—give it right back to them double. I've got your back."

Georgia shot me a triumphant look.

"Heard that? Ethan said I can do whatever I want with this one! Throw her out. Make her kneel at the gate for the whole day."

"Make her kneel on the gravel," Ethan added, his voice dripping with indulgence for her—and pure venom for me.

They moved toward me, reaching for my arms.

I raised my hand to shove them off—but then Georgia spoke again.

"Wait. That blue sapphire ring on her hand. I want it."

"Why would you want some woman's secondhand junk? Whatever you want, I'll buy you new ones," Ethan said.

"No, I want that one. The one she's wearing."

Georgia pouted, all whiny and spoiled.

"Fine, fine. Anything you want. It's yours."

The ring on my finger is the symbol of the Gambino heir. Fingerprint-locked. Anyone else who dares to wear it gets a kill order from the entire family.

And she wanted that.

I raised my voice, loud enough for Ethan to hear clearly.

"Ethan. Do you even know what she's asking for? Give her that ring, and you will regret it."

"Your little trinket being given to Georgia is an honor for you. Don't be ungrateful."

An honor. I should be grateful.

I felt the ice crystallize in my chest.

Fine then. If that's how he sees it—this stupid excuse of a fiancé? I don't want him anymore.

The door swung open from the inside, and I stepped out, meeting his gaze.I watched the red creep from his ears all the way down his neck. He stood frozen in place, that tall, solid frame of his completely still.I walked over and sat down across from him, studying him for a few seconds. His ear tips kept getting redder. His eyes kept flicking toward me, then away. His mouth opened and closed several times—but not a single word came out. This was nothing like the man who'd just poured his heart out to my father.Hard to believe he was the future Don of the second biggest mafia family in the country.I found it kind of amusing."Sit," I said.He sat immediately, back ramrod straight."I agree to the marriage," I said.Cassius's breath caught. He stared at me, dazed, and it took him a long moment to even speak. "...Really?""But there are conditions." I held up one finger. "First, after we marry, your operations merge into my system. Once I take the Don's seat, you give me your full supp

The final verdict on everyone in the dungeon arrived at my doorstep the next morning, delivered by my father's men.Georgia—both hands severed. All ten fingers, clean off. She'd never wear a ring again, on any finger, for the rest of her life. Then they tossed her out. No one dared to cross the Gambinos by helping her. She lost everything—money, shelter, dignity. She ended up on the streets, lost her mind, digging through trash bins for food when the hunger got too bad.Ethan—twelve ribs broken, then my father took one of his legs. He'll be bedridden for life. The Clark family, desperate to protect the rest of their bloodline, shipped him off to a nursing home on some remote island overseas that same night. He's never setting foot off that island. His father personally delivered a handwritten thank-you note: "Sincere gratitude to the Don for dealing with that scum. The Clark family will be forever indebted."Those executives and managers who joined in beating me? Each one had a hand br

No one paid her any attention. My father lifted me into his arms and turned to walk out of the company. He looked down at me—drenched in blood, barely holding on—and his voice went soft, almost breaking. "I'm taking you home, baby."Behind us, one scream after another split the air. And I couldn't hold on anymore. The darkness swallowed me whole. But I knew—this was far from over. When I opened my eyes again, I was in my own bedroom. My father sat beside my bed, and the moment he heard me stir, he turned."Awake?"He had a file in his hand, but his eyes never left me.I opened my mouth, throat dry as sand. "Dad... those people...""Taken. All of them. In the dungeon."He set the file down, stood, and brought me a glass of warm water."Dad, Ethan and that Georgia—""Locked up. Anyone who dares to lay a hand on my daughter—none of them are getting off easy." His brow was furrowed so deep it looked carved in stone. "I was blind. Absolutely blind to ever agree to let that idiot marry you.

There was a beat of silence on the other end. Then the crash of a chair being knocked over, followed by a string of trembling, incoherent words: "What?! Ethan—that—that ungrateful brat! Don't be angry, he's lost his mind! I'm coming right now! Right now!"The moment my father hung up, Ethan's phone started ringing. The second he picked up, his father's voice—usually so commanding—came through in a full-blown roar."You imbecile! Do you have any idea who that is?! That's the Don of the biggest mafia family in the country! Even the President shows him respect—and his daughter is his sole heir!""I'll beat you to death when I get there, you worthless piece of shit!"Ethan's face went white as a sheet.Georgia heard every word too. That smug look on her face froze solid. She grabbed Ethan's sleeve, her voice trembling with panic. "Ethan—what does that mean? I thought they were the ones begging your father?"Ethan didn't answer. He stood there like he'd been struck by lightning, shaking his

It was my father. The Don of the most powerful mafia family in the country. Henry Gambino. He came for me.He was still catching his breath, gun lowered—then his eyes found me in that corner, broken beyond recognition. His face went pale, then red."Olivia!" He threw dignity to the wind, sprinting toward me, dropping to his knees with a carefulness I'd never seen from him. His hands trembled as they hovered over me, afraid to touch, afraid to hurt me more. After what felt like forever, he finally pulled me into his arms."...Dad." My voice came out barely a whisper. He looked down at me—the same face that had never flinched through countless family bloodbaths—and I could see him about to explode. His arms tightened around me just a fraction. Then his gaze swept across the room. Finally, it landed on Georgia. Her hands were still stained with my blood. She was staring in disbelief, watching me cradled in my father's arms. The moment his cold stare hit her, she started shaking. She grabb

Ethan's expression shifted instantly.Georgia's pupils contracted. She whipped her head toward Ethan, pounding his chest in fury. "What does this mean, Ethan? What does she mean by 'fiancée'? Didn't you say I was the only one? Didn't you say you only loved me, that you'd only marry me?"The rest of the staff started whispering among themselves."Wait—so she really is the CEO's fiancée? And we just did all that to her... are we screwed?""Don't overthink it. Even if she is, it's just an arranged marriage. What really matters in the end is who the CEO actually loves.""Exactly. The real woman of this house is Ms. Taylor."Ethan finally snapped back to reality."So what if you are? You're nothing but a pawn the Gambinos sent over for a merger. My father's political standing is the only thing keeping your family's hands clean. Even if I killed you right now—what could your father possibly do about it?"He turned to Georgia, his voice softening into coaxing."Georgia, baby. I'm yours. Only
