Chapter 11

Author: Solemn Grace
Lance rubbed between his brows, no longer holding even a shred of trust for Wendy.

"There's a medical report this time. Mr. Brett pulled some strings to make sure things got handled," Lance's assistant said.

After hanging up, Lance thought of his younger self.

Back then, he truly wanted to protect Esme. He worked hard to grow stronger and more powerful.

He clearly held a great deal of love and tenderness for Esme. He couldn't bear for her to suffer even the slightest.

At that thought, Lance smiled bitterly.

He was willing to accept that Esme would never forgive him, but he still wanted to look for her. He needed to make things right.

Lance looked out the window.

Tonight, snow was falling in Whitville.

When Gemma learned that the Wendy she once loved the most had truly gone insane, she knew it was Brett's doing.

She didn't know how to describe what she was feeling.

Why?

If she had to be honest, the Walkers had never wronged Wendy, had they?

Regret and pain tormented her

"My room now overlooks a park, and I love watching the sun set over it," I said. "I don't need Walker Group. I have a family that treats me very well. You don't have to worry about me."I thought about how I used to beg these people for love. All I ever got was humiliation and cruelty, over and over again. The hurt from the past quietly resurfaced within me.My tears fell before I could stop them."You humiliated me time and again," I said, my voice trembling. "You ignored me, doubted me, and let Wendy torment me however she liked."I can't forgive you without betraying myself. You want to atone? The only thing you can do is accept that Esme is dead."All of you were complicit in her murder. Just stay out of my life!"By the time I finished, I was crying so hard that I couldn't talk. My parents stood there in a long, stunned silence. They said nothing and only wept."The both of you must be tired. If there's nothing else, you should go home and rest," I said. That was me givin

When I met the person welcoming me, both he and I were stunned. It was Lance.Even though I had cut ties with the past, seeing him again still hurt."Ms. Goodwin, this is Mr. Lance Stewart, Chairman of Stewart Group," my assistant, Rebecca Morey, said.So now, he had gone from the Stewart family's heir to the head of the company."Esme, is that you?" Lance's eyes were filled with shock, then quickly with pain."Ms. Goodwin, do you know each other?" Rebecca asked, unsure of what to do.I gave her a small smile, then turned to Lance and reached out to shake his hand."You've mistaken me for someone else. My name is Keira Goodwin. Nice to meet you. Thank you for overseeing the event, Mr. Stewart."Lance paused, then shook my hand. "Sorry, I got the wrong person. Please forgive my rudeness, Ms. Goodwin."I could clearly see the pain and disappointment in his eyes.…After dinner, there was a sudden knock on my room door. It was Lance.Just as I was about to close the door, he

Just then, Richard spoke up. "Lance, I'll give you an explanation. But before that, Esme left something for you."Lance took the diary in a daze and turned to the last page. It was Esme's handwriting."I wish you and Wendy happiness. Let's never meet again." So she wasn't throwing a tantrum—she had really left, and he foolishly believed they still had a future.Lance held the diary close to his chest. What had his 18-year-old self promised her?Esme had done the right thing. She should not forgive him for hurting her.She could never forgive anyone who hurt her!Despite those thoughts, the most celebrated young man in Whitville stood before everyone with tears streaming down his face.…Meanwhile, Iris and I were already on the plane to Romero.I was a little surprised when I saw the news about Wendy going to prison. The internet was slamming the Walkers for abusing their own daughter. But other than that, I felt nothing else."Do you plan to ever forgive them?" Iris asked.

Back at Walker Residence, Wendy cried and screamed as she smashed things all over the yard. No one around her dared to go near her. After handing the documents to Richard and Gemma, Brett walked up and kicked the raging Wendy aside."Quit the act," he said coldly. His voice was frighteningly icy and sharp as he continued, "Tell me. Who was Charles trying to save when he died? And how did he die? I'm warning you. If I'm asking now, it means I have evidence."And who actually saved Lance? Who withheld Esme's allowance? Who ordered people to torture her in prison?"Wendy turned pale as the questions kept coming."Mom, Dad, you love me the most. Did something happen to Brett? I-I don't understand what he's talking about," she stammered. But Richard and Gemma ignored her pleas for help as they finished reading the documents.Richard rushed forward and slapped her hard across the face."You monster! Your father drowned because you stepped on him and held him down! And you started th

Brett watched everything unfold but didn't side with Wendy like he used to. He needed to know the truth.Wendy continued her rant, and everyone felt uneasy—it seemed like they were getting to really know her for the first time.Lance frowned and shouted, "Enough! Wendy, you know I've always loved Esme. I've done everything I could for your condition. What more do you want?"After that, Lance walked out, ignoring Wendy's hysteria behind him.Wendy screamed, "Lance, if you walk away today, I'll jump from the second floor!"Lance paused. When he looked at Wendy standing on the balcony, he only felt more irritated. He then quickened his pace and left. The next second, Wendy really jumped."Wendy!"…At the hospital, the doctor emerged from the ER. He said, "Mr. and Mrs. Walker, don't worry. Ms. Wendy only has some minor injuries.""But she donated a kidney before, and she's had some hallucinations from past trauma. Doctor, please do a full examination on her," Gemma said, still f
