Chapter 4

Author: Nameless
That was the exact moment Sadie realized that if the man standing in front of her actually bothered to clean up, he wasn't any less striking than her precious assistant.

I pulled her card right out of my wallet. "This is the card you gave me. You said that as long as I didn't bug you, I could do whatever I wanted, and I could buy whatever I wanted. Isn't that what you said? Or are you regretting it now and planning to take it back?"

Sadie locked her stubborn, glaring gaze on me. "I mean what I say. The word regret doesn't even exist in my dictionary!"

"Good!"

I grabbed a bottle of Glenfiddich off the bar and smashed it straight down onto the marble table, sending a sharp, deafening crash ringing through the air.

The nightclub went dead silent in a split second, everyone's heads snapping toward us at the deafening smash.

Splattering alcohol soaked straight into Sadie's expensive stockings and designer heels. Right as shock washed over her face, I hopped right up onto the table, hoisting that black card high in the air.

"Listen up, everyone!

"Tonight's tab is on me!"

The bass dropped, heavy EDM blasted from the speakers, and the crowd erupted into wave after wave of wild cheers. Before I knew it, people were lifting me onto their shoulders, passing me around, and tossing me high into the air.

Through the flashing strobe lights and the thumping music, Sadie stared at me with a look of pure, unreadable complexity.

…

The next morning while Sadie was right in the middle of a corporate board meeting, her phone started buzzing with a relentless streak of notification alerts.

She glanced down casually, but the second her eyes swept over a dozen consecutive text messages, her eyelid started twitching violently.

[Dear customer, a POS transaction of $15 million was charged to your card ending in 8888.]

[Dear customer, a POS transaction of $20 million was charged to your card ending in 8888.]

[Dear customer, a POS transaction of $50 million was charged to your card ending in 8888.]

[Dear customer, a POS transaction of…]

She completely forgot about the meeting, frantically pulling out her phone to dial my number.

The second the call connected, Sadie launched into a furious tirade. "What the hell are you playing at, Ryder?

"How the hell did you manage to spend over eighty million in five minutes? What are you even buying?!"

"Oh, please! Is Madame CEO crying over a little cash?"

Before I could spit out another word, Sadie disconnected the call.

In my past life, when she handed me that black card, I treated it like the ultimate insult, a total desecration of what we had. I refused to touch a single penny of it, which meant when I died, I literally had thirty bucks to my name.

In my past life, I bled myself dry for her, and not only did I never get a single genuine smile in return, but I literally threw away my life to save hers.

So, in this life, I wasn't about to shortchange myself anymore. What did they call a man who lived off a woman? A kept man? After two lifetimes of backbreaking work and literal death, they could call me whatever they wanted.

This time, my life would be different!

My friend, who ran a cash-out service, held the POS terminal out toward me with a grin. "Bro, keep swiping?"

I checked my account balance, gritted my teeth, and nodded. "Keep going! Let's make it an even hundred million!"

That night, when I tore into the parking garage with the roaring engine of my brand-new Dodge Charger Hellcat, knowing a hundred million was sitting comfortably in my account put me in an unbeatable mood.

Sadie cared about her precious public image more than her own life. Even if she panicked and tried to claw that card back now, a hundred million was more than enough to fund my lifestyle for the rest of my days.

I unlocked the front door and stepped into the villa. Sadie was sprawled out on the living room couch, a warm, damp towel draped completely over her face.

The thug was going for the knife! The next second, the knife appeared in his grip, and he lunged forward, thrusting the blade straight toward Sadie.Finn was betting that I would automatically step in to take the knife for Sadie like I always had, but he had no idea I had been reborn. So, I didn't move a single inch. The blade drove straight into Sadie's abdomen. Before she could even process what was happening, the brutal reality finally caught up to her.Blood poured out from the wound, and Finn lost his mind, screaming at the top of his lungs, "You idiots! Who told you to stab her?"Stab the guy! Go for the guy!"It was already way too late. The screams of nearby bystanders sent the thugs into a panic, and they bolted, sprinting away so fast they didn't even bother pulling the knife out of Sadie's stomach. In the distance, the wail of police sirens grew closer by the second.…Sadie managed to claw her way back from the brink of death, but that single knife wound destroyed

"Of course you didn't think it was suspicious because you didn't give a damn about that knife, and you didn't care about me either. You only cared about that pretty boy!"I shoved Sadie away from me. "Sadie, looking at you right now makes me sick to my stomach. I honestly wish you had never figured out that I died for you."You're inherently cold and hollow. Just like back when I scraped together every penny to put you through undergrad and grad school, you never actually loved me. You only kept me around because you needed me. "Later on, when you got rich and didn't need me anymore, you grew cold. And now that you're obsessed with Finn, you'll eventually grow tired of him too, and toss him aside just like you did to me."You don't love anyone. The only person you've ever loved is yourself."Tears streamed down Sadie's face as she clung to me for dear life. "No! I won't divorce you! I'm your wife, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I refuse to let you go!""In my past

Hearing those words slip from Sadie's lips made my ears ring and wiped my mind completely blank as if every sound in the world had vanished in an instant. My thoughts felt like a tangled mess, impossible to unravel, with no idea where to begin. Suddenly, the knife from my past life seemed to pierce through time itself, stabbing me in the back all over again and sinking deep into my chest."Sadie, if you have something to say, just spit it out. Stop grabbing onto me."My cold, lifeless words drilled straight into her ears. She instinctively let go, stumbling backward a couple of steps. A sudden film of moisture flooded her eyes, and her fists clenched so tightly her knuckles turned bone-white."Ryder, I remember everything. I'm so sorry."I stared at her, completely lost. "Speak clearly. What the hell are you talking about?""The past life! Everything that happened in the past life, I remember it all!"I felt completely dazed, my brain spinning out of control. "You mean... Thos

Sadie finished the bowl of bland soup, and though the pain in her stomach eased up a bit, it still felt thoroughly uncomfortable."Alright, there's nothing else for you here. You should head back to work."With his eyes glued to his phone screen and refusing to look up, Finn replied, "I'll hang out here with you. It's not like anything major is going on at the office anyway."I'm grabbing dinner with some friends tonight. What do you want to eat? I can pick something up and bring it back for you."Sadie lay back down on the hospital bed. "No thanks," she said flatly. She pulled out her phone and started scrolling aimlessly until her thumb suddenly stopped moving. She finally figured out where Ryder had gone.On his social media feed, Ryder had posted a grid of nine photos. He was standing beside an off-road vehicle against the backdrop of a boundless, desolate desert. With his arms thrown wide and wearing a pair of sunglasses, Ryder was flashing a wild, carefree smile. Far in

That thought suddenly bubbled up from the depths of Sadie's mind, scaring even herself. She couldn't wrap her head around why such a notion had popped into her head out of nowhere. Two hours later, a tardy Finn finally sauntered into the hospital room carrying a takeout container. He popped the lid off the box, revealing a trendy takeout box containing a greasy burger and fries.A fresh wave of irritation spiked in Sadie's chest. Back when she used to get sick, Ryder would live in absolute terror that she wouldn't have an appetite, constantly cooking up different kinds of soups and making sure everything was light, refreshing, and easy on her stomach. If Ryder had ever dared to shove a box of greasy burger and fries in her face like this, she would have hurled the takeout container straight across the room at him. However, the person bringing her food wasn't Ryder. Sadie fought down the nausea churning in her stomach, forced herself to pick up the burger and shoved it into her mo

Later that night, I went out again.Sadie ended up calling an ambulance, and the paramedics rushed her to the hospital. Her migraine had been tormenting her all day. In addition, she had knocked back a couple of drinks at a business dinner, having forgotten to bring an umbrella and getting soaked when she stepped out of the car.Whenever she had a headache in the past, I would always rub her temples to ease the pain, but this time I didn't lift a finger.Every time she came home reeking of alcohol from corporate dinners, I would prepare a warm glass of honey water to sober her up, but this time I didn't even bother boiling water.Whenever it rained outside, I would stand by the doorway holding an umbrella waiting for her to come home, but this time I wasn't even in the house. If she got caught in the rain, I would dry her hair with a towel, run a hot bath for her, and have her medicine laid out and ready in advance, but this time I prepped absolutely nothing. So, Sadie caught a
