Finally, the day of long training sessions with Kain is over. My body is aching beyond comparison to all the exercises he had me do. Dancing, acting, even singing, he had me do everything, sometimes repeatedly. When he had said he would train me himself, he had not been joking. I knew he was capable of many acts as a man who once was a Companion himself, but today was utterly ridiculous.
Even now, in the limo ride home, Kain is drilling me on everything I’ve learned today. All I want to do is sleep. How he has so much energy still is beyond me.
A sigh from the man has me opening my eyes and glancing aside at Kain. I’m about to open my mouth to say something but Kain gets there first. “You’ve done well today,” he tells me and I think I saw him smiling at me, though by the time I blink and look properly, the smile has gone.
“Thanks,” I replied quietly. I instinctively wait for him to make some kind o
A few weeks have gone by since my training with Kain began and although I still have a long way to go, I have learned how a Companion acts, talks and even walks from Kain. It almost surprises me how much he actually knows about these things. I want to say that he simply knows because of his status as the CEO, but the way he talks; it is as though he himself lived that life.I want to know more about Kain more than I ever thought I might. I just can’t figure out if this feeling of mine is purely out of respect or something more. All I have figured out so far is that whenever we’re alone, Kain seems to grow just that bit more gentle with me, that kinder, but as soon as Drake or anyone else is around, he goes back to his sarcastic and belittling quips.Allowing my thoughts to wander over the last couple of weeks, I lay down in bed, facing the ceiling. This new bed is enormous and very comfortable, but I’m still not used to t
“Are you listening to me, Mister Smith?”Oh, I am listening, Kain… but I can’t look at you after what I did last night. I’m too ashamed of myself. “Y-yes, Mister Jones,” I reply, hoping he doesn’t hear the anxious feelings of guilt in my voice. Today we’ve spent the day preparing for tonight. It isn’t a big party, but Kain says that it’ll be my first journey into the life of a Companion, so I have to be dressed and ready for the occasion.I dare a sneaky glance in Kain’s direction. He is dressed to impress, as am I in my new outfit that he had brought me a couple of weeks ago. He looks irresistible and I have no doubts women are going to swarm him at this party. His outfit easily shows off his well-defined muscles and form. I quickly look away again before my eyes wander down to his other parts.“Good,” Kain’s voice continues a
This gathering was bigger than I ever could have imagined. Kain had told me it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but if this wasn’t the biggest party, then I fear knowing what one of those larger gatherings is like! Maybe by the time I get to go to one, I’ll have grown accustomed to seeing so many suits in one place. For now, I can’t help but gawk at the whole thing before me. Bright dazzling chandeliers hang down above us, while enormous fountains of melted chocolate sit on tables surrounded by a buffet of food. Servers in cute outfits walk around carrying alcoholic drinks, offering them to whoever wants a drink, though there are also non-alcoholic drinks being served too. I feel Kain’s hand land on my shoulder, which sends a warm feeling deep down in my gut. I glance up at him and he offers me a swift but reassuring smile. “Stay by my side for a while. Use my name to promote yourself. It shall help,” he says quietly so that no one else can hear
It doesn’t take me long to find a couple of girls that look like they might enjoy my company. They’re not companions, but they belong in the entertainment industry too. They’re background dancers, so no one is too important that I’ll step on any toes by trying to court them. Seeing as Kain has been teaching me some dance moves, we have a few things in common to talk about, which helps me find an opening topic. Outside of dancing, however, I’m not sure how much I want to get to know these girls. They’re nice enough, but I have zero interest in having any kind of affair with them. I wonder if they were hoping for that when I came up to them? Or maybe they’re glad that I’m not even talking about that kind of offer? It’s hard to tell since everyone seems to hide something tonight. I noticed at first with that woman CEO but now I am seeing it everywhere I look. Bright cheerful smiles but glares whenever a back is turned… longing looks sent to those
Another party, another night of enjoying the attention of others. This time, however, I am a little more upbeat about the entire process. Drake’s help for the first party seems to have eased me into the process more. I understand now why Kain pointed out to join Drake that night. Even Skyler helped me a few days later, giving me some pointers on how to impress girls without coming across as creepy or desperate. This time, however, it is just our company here, as they hired us to entertain some special guests. Already Skyler has several men fawning over her, as do some others Kain brought here with us. I’m once more stuck beside Kain, but not alone. Several women are showering Kain with love and affection while a couple speaks with me.It has become common gossip now that Kain takes me everywhere. This little nugget of information seems to have sparked more interest in me, though I am not surprised at all. I knew right away that people
The sound of gentle waves lashing at the shore and the smell of summer trees fill my senses as I look upon the building before me in awe. This place is more of a resort for relaxing in my opinion, but apparently, we’re here for work and not a vacation. I have always known about the oasis of Krusas city, but I never dared to think I’d ever come near it. It is larger than any single body of water I have ever seen. There are small man-made places like fountains, but this is all-natural and a very popular spot for the wealthy. To make sure we’re not late for this meeting, Drake has brought all of our things to our rooms while Kain and I head straight to work. Kain gave him the rest of the day off, as this place has its own security and people aren’t free to come and go without proof that they are granted access to the building.“Who are we going to see, Mister Jones?” I ask Kain as I try to keep my focus. Though th
Joe led me through the hallways until we reached a room guarded by two powerful men on either side of the door. They had headsets on their head so that they could pass messages easily between themselves and whoever was on the other end. They were also wearing body armour and bulletproof vests for added protection. The CEO made sure that his daughter was adequately protected. They give Joe and me a wary glance before opening the doors to the room within. Before I can even process what is going on, I find myself tackled into a tight hug by someone not much smaller than myself. I just about manage to keep my balance as I blink in shock. This young woman isn’t a child at all, yet the way the CEO spoke of her seemed to imply she was. “I’m so glad you could come!” Her excited voice rings out as I try to process the whole thing in my mind. As I am trying to place who this girl is, she continues in her overly cheerful tone, “when
“How did things go?” Kain’s voice brings me back to the conversation as we drive home. Jane’s questions, along with Skyler’s when I first started, keep going through my mind. I’m no more aware of Kain’s plans for me now than I was back then. Even with him opening up to me and no longer offering me harsh or sarcastic remarks, he hasn’t told me why he wants to train me personally when he has no reason to do so.“They went fine,” I replied. I look out the window of the car for a moment, lost in my thoughts. I know Kain wants to know everything, especially if I think we can use Jane to help both of our positions, but I just don’t know what to tell him. There’s the truth, which he may not be happy with, or in a more likely situation. He wants to use her curiosity about him and me, to get further into her father’s business and win them over.If that is the case, Jane would be
