SHEBA'S POV

The next day, I had a meeting, a very boring one.

Normally, I could tolerate boring meetings. I sat through enough of them over the years to develop the patience required to survive anything from endless presentations to people arguing over numbers that had already been decided.

But this morning, I was in a particularly terrible mood and I blamed the book.I was still thinking about it. To be more specific, I was still thinking about Ezra.

My driver was taking me to the office while I sat in the back seat, staring through the window without actually seeing anything outside.

My mind was somewhere else entirely.

Ezra.

I couldn't believe how much I missed him.

It was very strange.

Completely ridiculous, actually.

He was fictional.

A character in a novel, yet, somehow, I genuinely feel like I lost someone.

"My baby," I muttered under my breath.

I immediately frowned.

What is wrong with me?

My baby?

I never even called a real man that.

Yet somehow, calling Ezra that felt perfectly natural.

I sighed and leaned my head against the seat.

It was probably because I got too attached to the story.

I spent so much time reading about him that my mind had started treating him like someone I knew. Maybe this was how many readers felt after finishing a really good book.

Soon enough, I would stop thinking about him, I would get back to work and life would return to normal.

Still, a small part of me couldn't stop thinking about what I had said the night before.

If I had the chance, I would protect him.

The thought made me smile bitterly.

What could I possibly do?

I was real.

Ezra was fictional.

There was no way for our worlds to ever meet, I couldn't save him.

And that was probably what bothered me the most, I built an entire life from nothing, I faced challenges that would have broken most people. I had become one of the most powerful women in my industry.

But there was one person I couldn't save.

A man who didn't even exist.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice the change in traffic.

I didn't notice the vehicle approaching

I didn't notice my driver's reaction

I didn't even have enough time to understand what was happening when—

BANG!

The car was hit.

My body was thrown sideways, and my head struck something with enough force to make my vision blur. Pain exploded through me.

For a moment, I couldn't understand what had happened.

My ears rang so loudly that the rest of the world became distant.

Then the pain came, It spread through my body, sharp and overwhelming.

I tried to move.

I couldn't.

My chest tightened.

I couldn't breathe properly.

Panic rushed through me.

No.

No, no, no.

Not like this.

I tried to take a breath, but it came out weak.

My heart was pounding.

My hands trembled.

I could feel myself slipping.

Dying.

The realization was terrifying.

I didn't want to die.

I worked too hard for my life......I built everything myself. I had plans.

Things I still wanted to do.

Places I wanted to see.

Books I wanted to read.

I wanted to wake up tomorrow.

I wanted to go to my boring meeting and complain about it afterward.

I wanted to go home.

I wanted—

Ezra.

For some reason, his face appeared in my mind.

That calm expression.

Those sharp eyes.

That stupidly handsome face.

My eyes burned.

It was absurd that he was the last person I thought about.

But perhaps that was because I was still angry about his death.

"I didn't even get to save you," I whispered.

My breathing became weaker.

I tried to hold on.

I genuinely tried.

But my body wasn't listening to me anymore.

Everything around me grew darker.

The sounds faded.

The pain disappeared little by little.

And then, with one final breath...

I was gone.

---

At first, I felt nothing.

It was as though I were floating somewhere without actually knowing where I was.

There was no sound,no light no sense of direction.

Then everything went completely dark.

I don't know how long I remained that way.

Seconds.

Minutes.

Maybe hours.

I had no idea.

Then suddenly......

I opened my eyes.

My head hurts so much . I squeezed my eyes shut again and groaned.

What happened?

Am I Alive..?

I slowly opened my eyes.

"Did I survive?"

My voice sounded weak.

I swallowed and tried to move and my body responded. That alone shocked me, I was alive.

Somehow, I survived, relief washed over me. Then I noticed the room.

I froze.

This wasn't a hospital.

I looked around slowly.

In fact...

This wasn't any room I recognized.

The room was enormous.

The ceiling was high, the walls beautifully decorated, and the furniture looked nothing like anything I owned. There were elegant purple curtains hanging over enormous windows.

A large bed sat behind me, covered in soft fabric that looked far too expensive to touch.

I stared at it.

Where the hell am I?

I pushed the covers away.

My feet touched the floor.

Cold.

I shivered.

Slowly, I stood.

My legs felt strange, but they held me, I took a few cautious steps.

Everything around me was beautiful.

Too beautiful.

The room looked like something from a historical drama.

Or...

A princess's bedroom.

I walked toward one of the windows, staring at the decorations around me.

Who brought me here?

I should be in a hospital.

Not here.

I turned around, still trying to make sense of everything. I walked past a large mirror and I stopped.

Something made me turn around.

I stared at the reflection.

My eyebrows furrowed.

That wasn't me, I took a step closer and the woman in the mirror did the same and stared back at me.

she was beautiful , her golden hair shines so bright and her emerald eyes held so much light she seemed young too.

Completely unfamiliar.

I blinked.

My mouth fell open.

"Who the hell is this woman…”

I held my teacup between my fingers, watching Luke carefully. He was still staring at me as like he couldn't decide whether to believe what I had just told him. Visions. It was a convenient explanation, not the truth, of course, but close enough to one that I could make him understand what I wanted him to know without exposing myself. I set my cup down. "I have seen how this story ends, Luke" Luke's expression changed. "How you treat me. How you hold that..." I paused, my eyes resting on him. "...girl higher than me. How you ruin everything your ancestors built with their sweat." My voice was calm, but there was no way of hiding the disgust behind my words, I spent enough time thinking about the story to know how ridiculous the entire situation was. Everything that had been built before Luke's generation would eventually be placed at risk because he couldn't control himself. And for what? A girl who would become the center of his entire world while everyone else paid the pr

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 11

After everything that happened in Father's study, I decided that I needed a little peace.bThe next day, I went to the garden for tea. The weather was beautiful. The sun was warm without being harsh, and the gentle breeze felt wonderful against my skin. After the chaos of the previous day, sitting quietly with a cup of tea sounded perfect. I settled into my seat and let myself relax. For the first time since waking up in this world, I wasn't thinking about marriage proposals, political alliances, or how I was supposed to avoid dying. I simply enjoyed the afternoon. I lifted my cup, ready to take my first sip, then I was interrupted, rudely might I add "Your Highness." I paused. A guard stood a short distance away. "The prince has requested an audience." I lowered my cup, the prince?...as in Luke I stared at him. Weren't they supposed to return to Firildia today?....why are they still here? I sighed inwardly. Apparently, my peaceful afternoon wasn't going be so peaceful

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 10

ALERA'S POV I couldn't believe I had never thought of it, it was so obvious. If I wanted to protect Ezra without raising suspicion or giving anyone a reason to question my intentions, then I had to marry him. I would be able to stay by his side, know where he was, know what he was doing, and, most importantly, protect him whenever necessary. I would get to see him, I would get to admire him more and I wouldn't have to come up with some ridiculous excuse for constantly being around the Grand Duke. I could simply say that I was his wife. The thought alone made me want to smile. My words were met with complete shock. The men in the room went silent for several moments, staring at me as though I had suddenly announced that I wanted to marry the king himself. I didn't blame them. They had probably come here expecting to secure a marriage between the prince and Princess Alera. Instead, I rejected their prince and volunteered to marry the most powerful unmarried man in the kingdom.

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    chapter 9

Her words left the room completely silent. For a moment, nobody seemed to know what to say.The men from Firildia had clearly not expected this. In fact they expected that they only had to contact the king but now..... Alera simply sat back in her chair, watching them with a satisfied smile. Did they really think they were going to get through this so easily? In the book, they had still needed to convince the king even after the proposed marriage had been discussed for some time. But now? The king wouldn't even have to consider it, Alera had already given him a valid reason to refuse and the best part was that there had never actually been any rumor about Luke's relationship with Evelyn. She had simply used what she knew from the book. Apparently, her knowledge of the story was going to be far more useful than she had initially imagined. The silence was eventually broken by the count. "Your Highness, I assure you that that is just a fling." Alera turned her attention toward h

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    chapter 8

Soon, they were all seated in the king's study. Alera deliberately chose a seat as far away from Luke as possible,.She had no desire to sit anywhere near him. From the moment they entered the study, Luke had looked as though he didn't want to be there. He barely spoke, and there was an unmistakable reluctance in his expression. Alera couldn't help but wonder if his little fling had something to do with it. She rolled her eyes at the thought. Of course it did. The man probably wanted to be anywhere but here. He probably wanted to be with Evelyn right now. He didn't want this but he had to for his land. In the book he really did gain a lot from the marriage but the fool couldn't even form a connection with Alera to keep it because of his obsession with that girl.Everyone settled into their seats, but nobody spoke immediately as they waited for the king's permission. King William sat behind his desk, his expression calm as he regarded the men from Firildia. After a moment, he gav

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 7

SHEBA'S POV There were so many hands on me. Some were working on my hair, others were attending to my feet, while another pair carefully adjusted my dress. I simply stood there and allowed them to do their work. I still haven't gotten used to this. Back in my old life, getting ready meant choosing my own clothes, doing my own hair, and leaving the house when I was satisfied with how I looked. Here, preparing for dinner required an entire team. As the maids moved around me, my mind drifted back to what I had read. Luke Floyd That was the prince's name. In the novel, when Luke first arrived, Alera didn't feel any love for him. She had been neutral, she didn't thrown herself at him or desperately tried to win his affection. But after their marriage, things changed. She began yearning for his affection, she wanted her husband to look at her the way he looked at Evelyn, that slut.... But she never begged for his love, she never humiliated herself for it. All she did was
