SHEBA'S POV

Just like clockwork, a knock fell on the door, I jumped.

My eyes were still fixed on the woman in the mirror when I heard the sound again.

I stared at the door, for a few seconds, I didn't say anything. I was still trying to understand what was happening.

Who is this woman? and why am I in her body?

How did I even get here?

Was it some kind of witchcraft?

How on earth did I die and end up inside another woman's body?

The questions kept piling into my head, each one more ridiculous than the last. I turned back toward the mirror.

The unfamiliar woman stared back at me.

She was beautiful.

Far too beautiful. Her features were delicate, her skin flawless, and everything about her looked completely different from the woman I had known my entire life. She didn't look like me at all.

Now I was standing in a strange room, wearing clothes I had never seen before, looking at a face that didn't belong to me.

"Your Highness?"

The voice came from the other side of the door.

I froze.

"Good morning, Your Highness. we are here to prepare you for your daily activities."

A maid.

That was definitely the voice of a maid.

I swallowed.

My mind was still spinning.

I didn't know what to say, I didn't know who this woman was supposed to be, and I certainly didn't know what I was supposed to do.

Then the voice came again.

"Princess Alera, are you alright...?"

My heart stopped.

Princess...

Alera?

All this made no sense, it made no sense at all...

"Your Highness?"

The maid called again.

I closed my eyes.

I need answers.

And the only person who could possibly give them to me was standing on the other side of that door.

"Yes."

My voice came out quieter than I intended.

I cleared my throat.

"Come in."

The door opened almost immediately.

Seven women walked into the room.

Seven.

I stared at them.

They were all dressed like maids, their movements orderly and practiced. The moment they entered, they lowered their heads and bowed.

"Good morning, Your Highness."

I didn't answer immediately.

I was too stunned.

This was insane.

One of the maids straightened and looked toward me cautiously.

"Are you feeling unwell, Your Highness?"

I shook my head.

"No."

The lie came automatically, I had no idea whether I was well or unwell.

I wasn't even sure I was alive.

The maids immediately began moving around the room as though this were a perfectly ordinary morning. Some went toward the wardrobe, others began preparing my bath, one arranged things on a table. Another opened the curtains.

I just stood there, watching them work, Nobody questioned why I was behaving strangely, nobody seemed surprised.

Because to them, I was obviously their princess. Their actions were so natural that my stomach twisted.

One of the maids returned with a dress.

Another began preparing what looked like everything I would need for the day.

Daily activities, bath, dress, servants, princess I looked around the room again.

The furniture, the bed and the unfamiliar clothing, all of this felt foreign yet everything suddenly felt much more real.

This wasn't a hospital, this wasn't my house, this wasn't even my world.

Then it hit me.

The name.

Alera.

I stared at the maid who had called me that, my heart began beating faster.

Princess Alera.

The daughter of King William Von Asta of Astria

the most powerful kingdom in the nation.

My mind immediately went back to the book.

'They Will Always Protect Me.'

The book read before I died, the book that annoyed me so much that I had spent half the night complaining about it. The book whose characters I had become far too attached to.

My breathing quickened.

No.

No, no, no.

I knew that name.

I knew that family.

I knew that princess.

I knew exactly who Princess Alera was.

She was the villainess.

The woman who married the prince, the princess from the powerful nation whose marriage was supposed to strengthen the prince's kingdom.

The woman who was continually humiliated because of the heroine, the woman everyone.....

...... eventually blamed.

The woman who......... died.

I took a step backward, my legs suddenly felt weak. One of the maids immediately moved toward me.

"Your Highness?"

I barely heard her, my thoughts were moving too quickly.

The accident.

The darkness.

Waking up here.

The strange body.

The maid calling me Princess Alera.

There was no way.

There was absolutely no way.

But everything fit.

Everything.

I turned toward the mirror again.

The beautiful unfamiliar face stared back at me.

And suddenly, I recognized it.

Not because I had ever seen this woman in real life, but because I had imagined her while reading. I knew what she looked like, I knew her story , I knew her fate and I knew I knew exactly how it ended.

My stomach dropped.

"Oh my goodness..."

The words barely left my lips, I looked at my reflection again.

Princess Alera.

The daughter of King William Von Asta.

The princess of the most powerful nation in the region.

The villainess of They Will Always Protect Me.

The woman I hated watching suffer, the woman whose death had barely mattered to the heroine or her precious men.

And now...

I was her.

I covered my mouth.

My eyes widened in horror.

I spent the previous night wishing I could enter that world, wishing I could protect Ezra, wishing I could change the story, wishing I could save my favorite character.

But I had never imagined this, I never imagined that I would actually wake up inside the novel.

And worse...

Much worse...

I knew exactly what happened to the woman whose body I was in, I also knew how she would end and it made my blood run cold

I was in a novel.

And worse is I ended up in the body of the villainess who ends up...

DEAD.

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 12

I held my teacup between my fingers, watching Luke carefully. He was still staring at me as like he couldn't decide whether to believe what I had just told him. Visions. It was a convenient explanation, not the truth, of course, but close enough to one that I could make him understand what I wanted him to know without exposing myself. I set my cup down. "I have seen how this story ends, Luke" Luke's expression changed. "How you treat me. How you hold that..." I paused, my eyes resting on him. "...girl higher than me. How you ruin everything your ancestors built with their sweat." My voice was calm, but there was no way of hiding the disgust behind my words, I spent enough time thinking about the story to know how ridiculous the entire situation was. Everything that had been built before Luke's generation would eventually be placed at risk because he couldn't control himself. And for what? A girl who would become the center of his entire world while everyone else paid the pr

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 11

After everything that happened in Father's study, I decided that I needed a little peace.bThe next day, I went to the garden for tea. The weather was beautiful. The sun was warm without being harsh, and the gentle breeze felt wonderful against my skin. After the chaos of the previous day, sitting quietly with a cup of tea sounded perfect. I settled into my seat and let myself relax. For the first time since waking up in this world, I wasn't thinking about marriage proposals, political alliances, or how I was supposed to avoid dying. I simply enjoyed the afternoon. I lifted my cup, ready to take my first sip, then I was interrupted, rudely might I add "Your Highness." I paused. A guard stood a short distance away. "The prince has requested an audience." I lowered my cup, the prince?...as in Luke I stared at him. Weren't they supposed to return to Firildia today?....why are they still here? I sighed inwardly. Apparently, my peaceful afternoon wasn't going be so peaceful

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 10

ALERA'S POV I couldn't believe I had never thought of it, it was so obvious. If I wanted to protect Ezra without raising suspicion or giving anyone a reason to question my intentions, then I had to marry him. I would be able to stay by his side, know where he was, know what he was doing, and, most importantly, protect him whenever necessary. I would get to see him, I would get to admire him more and I wouldn't have to come up with some ridiculous excuse for constantly being around the Grand Duke. I could simply say that I was his wife. The thought alone made me want to smile. My words were met with complete shock. The men in the room went silent for several moments, staring at me as though I had suddenly announced that I wanted to marry the king himself. I didn't blame them. They had probably come here expecting to secure a marriage between the prince and Princess Alera. Instead, I rejected their prince and volunteered to marry the most powerful unmarried man in the kingdom.

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    chapter 9

Her words left the room completely silent. For a moment, nobody seemed to know what to say.The men from Firildia had clearly not expected this. In fact they expected that they only had to contact the king but now..... Alera simply sat back in her chair, watching them with a satisfied smile. Did they really think they were going to get through this so easily? In the book, they had still needed to convince the king even after the proposed marriage had been discussed for some time. But now? The king wouldn't even have to consider it, Alera had already given him a valid reason to refuse and the best part was that there had never actually been any rumor about Luke's relationship with Evelyn. She had simply used what she knew from the book. Apparently, her knowledge of the story was going to be far more useful than she had initially imagined. The silence was eventually broken by the count. "Your Highness, I assure you that that is just a fling." Alera turned her attention toward h

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    chapter 8

Soon, they were all seated in the king's study. Alera deliberately chose a seat as far away from Luke as possible,.She had no desire to sit anywhere near him. From the moment they entered the study, Luke had looked as though he didn't want to be there. He barely spoke, and there was an unmistakable reluctance in his expression. Alera couldn't help but wonder if his little fling had something to do with it. She rolled her eyes at the thought. Of course it did. The man probably wanted to be anywhere but here. He probably wanted to be with Evelyn right now. He didn't want this but he had to for his land. In the book he really did gain a lot from the marriage but the fool couldn't even form a connection with Alera to keep it because of his obsession with that girl.Everyone settled into their seats, but nobody spoke immediately as they waited for the king's permission. King William sat behind his desk, his expression calm as he regarded the men from Firildia. After a moment, he gav

  • I am utterly in love with the Grand Duke    Chapter 7

SHEBA'S POV There were so many hands on me. Some were working on my hair, others were attending to my feet, while another pair carefully adjusted my dress. I simply stood there and allowed them to do their work. I still haven't gotten used to this. Back in my old life, getting ready meant choosing my own clothes, doing my own hair, and leaving the house when I was satisfied with how I looked. Here, preparing for dinner required an entire team. As the maids moved around me, my mind drifted back to what I had read. Luke Floyd That was the prince's name. In the novel, when Luke first arrived, Alera didn't feel any love for him. She had been neutral, she didn't thrown herself at him or desperately tried to win his affection. But after their marriage, things changed. She began yearning for his affection, she wanted her husband to look at her the way he looked at Evelyn, that slut.... But she never begged for his love, she never humiliated herself for it. All she did was
