Chapter 4 The Name on the Transfer

Two days later, Naomi reserved a private dining room and hosted a family dinner.

She texted me, "Camille has been under a lot of pressure lately. Let's have dinner together tonight and clear up the misunderstanding. After that, you two can live happily together."

I pushed open the door to the private dining room and was surprised to find Cedric there too, sitting beside Camille.

With a broad smile, Naomi took Cedric's hand and fastened a finely crafted emerald cufflink of exceptional quality onto his sleeve. "Cedric, this cufflink belonged to Camille's grandfather. I've been keeping it for you all these years. Now that you're back, come visit me often."

During my first year of marriage, I'd once complimented that same cufflink, saying how beautiful it was. Naomi had glared at me, saying it was a family heirloom that wasn't to be touched so casually.

Now, she was giving it to another man right in front of my eyes.

Once dinner began, Camille, Nora, and Cedric spent the entire time discussing the details of the financing.

No one paid any attention to me.

I quietly sipped my coffee.

When they were nearly done, I set down my cup and looked at Nora. "Three days ago, you said the company was dealing with a primary data crisis. Is it over yet?"

The mood at the table changed instantly.

Nora chuckled awkwardly. "It's been dealt with, Tristan. It was just a false alarm."

I pulled a printed copy of the system activity logs from my bag and placed it gently in front of her.

"I checked the server logs. There wasn't even a single abnormal fluctuation in the company's server activity three days ago. That so-called data crisis never existed at all."

The room fell completely silent.

Camille's expression darkened.

Meanwhile, Nora wiped the sweat from her forehead before finally admitting it. "Tristan, the photo was an old one I found. I'll admit that, but Camille only did it because she was afraid you'd misunderstand.

"Cedric was finally back, and it happened to be his birthday. What's wrong with Camille spending one night with him? Did you really have to make such a big deal out of it and dig through the company's system logs?"

Naomi immediately joined in.

"If we'd told you Camille was going to spend Cedric's birthday with him, would you have let her go? If you can't be more understanding, what's wrong with Camille keeping it from you out of consideration for the family?"

I turned to Camille. "So, everyone knew he was back. Everyone knew you were going to spend his birthday with him. Was I the only person who didn't know?"

There wasn't the slightest hint of guilt on Camille's face. She looked nothing but irritated.

"Tristan, do you really have to take this so far? I told you, Cedric is only in charge of investments for the company. He's been running all over the place trying to secure financing for us.

"The underwater hotel was something he'd always regretted missing out on in college. I went with him once to honor the relationship we had back then. That doesn't mean I'm abandoning our relationship."

"Stop it, Camille." Cedric gently tugged at Camille's sleeve, then lowered his head in seemingly defeat. "This is my fault. I shouldn't have come back."

Naomi impatiently tapped her fingers against the table.

"Enough. You don't need to transfer the money back. Think of it as compensation for missing your trip to Norhaven. Everyone's here today, so sign this document, and we'll put the whole thing behind us."

As she spoke, Naomi shot Camille a meaningful look.

Camille was silent for a moment before taking out a document and sliding it toward me.

"What is this?"

"The company is going through an ownership restructure." She avoided my eyes, her tone slightly unnatural. "You just need to sign away your marital claim to a portion of the company's equity."

I picked up the document and flipped to the final page. There, clearly listed under Transferee, was Cedric's name.
