Chapter 3

Author: The Evil Villain
Jerry's POV

I caught the threat in Lily's eyes, laid bare without any attempt to disguise it, and it hit me as almost laughable.

This was the woman I put on a pedestal for three years. And yet, for her rotten excuse of an uncle, she had the nerve to say something like this to me.

Those rose-tinted glasses through which I used to see her shattered in an instant, and I realized she was nothing special after all.

"So what?" I glanced at the engagement token she had snatched away. "As you wished, our engagement has been called off."

With that, I instructed my butler, Harold Olson, to see her out.

Lily was trembling with rage.

"Jerry, just you wait!"

Perhaps because she had been humiliated under my roof, a twisted heap of scrap metal appeared right outside my front door the very next morning.

When I noticed my car keys were missing from the entryway hook, I knew right away that the scrap metal heap was my limited-edition supercar.

Cecil must have taken it for a joyride without permission.

My heart sank. No matter how expensive a car was, it was just a material possession to me, nothing more.

But hanging in that car was the car rosary my grandmother, Suzanne Manning, left me. It was also the only keepsake I had left of her.

Just then, I received a call from Lily.

"Jerry, do you like the gift we sent you? That's what you get for crossing Cecil!"

My expression darkened as I stared at the heap of scrap metal.

"Where is my car rosary?" I asked.

"What's the matter? You want it back? Come get it yourself!" Lily retorted, her tone dripping with contempt.

"Lily, if you dare do anything to that car rosary, I swear I'll make you wish you were dead."

She snorted and said, "Spare me the act. You're nothing but a worthless bum coasting through life. My family is the new power in Starworth, so bring it on!"

With a grim expression, I ordered my assistant, Arthur Moore, to take me to the Compton residence.

My phone rang again. I was about to decline the call, but when I saw the caller's name, I took a deep breath before answering.

Kristy Hurley's voice came through, carrying her usual composure. "Jerry, are you sure you didn't call off the engagement in a fit of pique?"

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Do I seem like the type to use a marriage alliance to spite someone?"

"No," Kristy replied, chuckling softly. "But you do seem like a fool who let a woman cloud his judgment—which is why I've found myself a clear-headed ally. If you're looking to dominate the Auropia market, my family's distribution channels are the quickest way in. We each get what we want."

Then, she fell silent for a moment before adding, "But I don't want to trade a marriage of convenience for profits."

"After tonight, that won't be the case anymore." I urged Arthur to drive faster, then said offhandedly, "See you at the engagement party."

I had barely ended the call when a piercing car horn rang in my ears.

An out-of-control semi-truck was barreling straight toward the back seat where I sat. The blinding headlights seared my eyes with pain, and the violent impact crushed the car's frame.

Warm blood trickled down my cheek, the agonizing pain making my vision go dark.

Through the shattered car window, I saw Cecil stumbling out, clutching something in his hand that emitted a soft glow.

It was the car rosary Grandma had left me!

"This thing must be worth quite a bit, huh?"

I struggled to crawl out, but it felt like several of my bones were broken. Even the slightest movement sent excruciating pain wracking through my entire body.

"Put it down," I said with great difficulty.

"Put it down?" Cecil kicked at my car door. "You've been clinging to Lily for three years. Why won't you just leave us alone?"

He suddenly raised his hand and brutally smashed the car rosary onto the ground.

A crisp cracking sound rang out.

"Cecil!" I roared, a metallic taste of blood surging up my throat. "That was my grandmother's—"

"It could belong to the King himself for all I care!" He grabbed me by my blood-soaked shirt and dragged me out of the car.

He pointed at the hickeys on his neck. "Lily did this to me. She said her body belongs to me and me alone. You think she actually liked you? You were nothing but her personal ATM!"

Cecil grew more and more frenzied as he spoke. "Who the heck are you anyway? You're nothing but a stepping stone for me and Lily to climb higher! All she had to do was crook her finger, and you'd practically hand over your life on a silver platter."

Looking at me, he threw his head back and let out a maniacal laugh.

"Jerry, since you love Lily so much, why don't you just die for her right now?"

With that, he grabbed me by the hair and slammed my head viciously against the ground.

Jerry's POVLily's expression froze. She stood rooted to the spot, her eyes filled with intense disbelief."But I truly know I was wrong. Did all those years together mean nothing to you?"I waved my hand dismissively and said impatiently, "Oh, so now the years we spent together matter to you? Why didn't you think of them when you were cheating on me? And now you turn around and point fingers at me?"Besides, you've never shown any real remorse from the beginning. Even right now, you don't actually think you did anything wrong. Rather, you've just realized your family is about to lose everything because of your reckless, despicable behavior!"With that, I paid her no further attention. I glanced at my watch and then summoned security to escort Lily out.As I watched her struggle and thrash while being dragged away, all I felt was bitter irony.Everyone knew how well I used to treat her. Had she even so much as condemned Cecil's actions a little, I would have settled the matter f

Third-Person POVLily finally realized then that the only reason Jerry had ever put her on a pedestal, surrounded and adored by all, was because she had been his fiancee. Apart from that title, she was nothing. Jerry used to guard her ego like it was priceless. Now any of his junior assistants could trample all over it.In that moment, it finally dawned on her that Jerry had really dumped her for good. The moment this hit her, a surge of fury and distress overwhelmed her. And with one choked breath, she collapsed and fainted on the spot. But no matter how much Hugh wailed and wept, there was no way Jerry would ever turn back for a woman who had soiled herself. When Lily came to, Hugh immediately delivered another ringing slap across her face. Then, he jabbed his finger at her face and roared, "Because of your affair with your own uncle, not only have we become the laughingstock of all Starworth, but our entire family has been utterly destroyed. Are you satisfied now?"I always k

Third-Person POV"You're right, Cecil. What can Jerry actually do to us? All of this is just empty threats. Given our family's vast and established empire, I really don't think he can touch us."Since he had the gall to treat us like this, then I certainly don't mind going down fighting and taking him out with me. He wants to go to war? He can bring it on!"At that thought, Lily's gaze hardened. What Lily never could have imagined, however, was that bankrupting Compton Group was merely the appetizer Jerry had prepared. The very next morning, Compton Group was once again trending in the news. The company was raided by the authorities due to involvement in illegal activities dating back years, and a considerable amount of illicit goods was even found on the premises. Now, with irrefutable evidence, Lily's family had truly plunged into an abyss of utter ruin. Because the sums involved were massive and the negative impact severe, the fallout rippled instantly through other industrie

Jerry's POVI had already given Lily her chance. If I were to show her mercy now, it would be nothing short of willful blindness to everything she had done to me.After arranging the next steps, I noticed I had received dozens of missed calls. Even the WhatsApp chat we hadn't used in ages was now flooded with Lily's demands and accusations."Jerry, what exactly is the meaning of this? You'd better explain yourself clearly and honestly!" "Do you really think my family has no influence of its own after all these years? I refuse to believe that a nepo baby like you who knows nothing but squandering money can lay a finger on my family!"I couldn't help but let out a contemptuous laugh when I saw Lily's messages.A nepo baby? She really had a knack for jokes. When she was still my fiancee, it was one thing for her to say things unbecoming of her position. But now that our engagement had been called off, wasn't she being a little naive to think she could still treat me like this?Wi

Jerry's POVLily blanched at my words. A beat later, she burst out into raucous laughter. Contempt flickered in her eyes, the sneer on her lips a silent mockery of how clueless she thought I was."You? Do you honestly believe that a single word from you can make my entire family pay the price? Everything I've worked for all these years was to get out from under your thumb. Did you really think I wouldn't have a contingency plan for something like this?"Suddenly, her phone rang, its chime as relentless and urgent as a death knell. Only then did she seem to realize something, and the mockery on her face crumbled away inch by inch. Even the smugness in her eyes vanished without a trace. The way she looked at me now was filled with terror and panic, as if she had finally grasped what was happening. But instead of giving her a chance to speak, I let out a cold laugh and said, "What's the matter? Panicking already? I actually preferred that arrogant, blissfully ignorant look you had ju

Jerry's POVThe screech of brakes sounded in the distance, and Lily hurriedly got out of the car."Cecil, are you okay?"She threw herself at Cecil and carefully examined him from head to toe, only breathing a sigh of relief when she confirmed he had nothing more than a few scrapes. When she turned and saw my forehead was covered in blood, there was something almost like disappointment in her eyes."Jerry, did you do this on purpose? I grew up with Cecil! How could you be so vicious as to try and kill him with your car?"I forced myself to endure the searing pain and glared fixedly at her."Lily, give me back the car rosary!"She looked down her nose at me, as if she were staring at a dog."You think I'll give it back just because you want me to? Who the heck do you think you are? Do you really think my family hasn't built up something of their own all these years?"She froze when she saw the car's rosary lying on the ground. A moment later, she let out a scoff."You tried t
