**SERENA POV**

**Sarah’s Wedding Weekend - Sunday Morning**

The vineyard is breathtaking in the morning light.

Yesterday’s wedding was perfect, Sarah glowing in her dress, her fiancé crying when she walked down the aisle, the whole thing so full of love and joy it made my chest ache in the best way. Now it’s Sunday morning, the day after, and most of the family is gathering for brunch before everyone heads home.

I’m getting dressed in our room at the vineyard’s inn, pulling on a simple sundress

{ETHAN’S POV}The conference room smells like expensive cologne and desperation.I’m pretending to listen to Jenkins drone on about quarterly projections, but my mind’s somewhere else. Somewhere it shouldn’t be. My phone’s face down on the table, screen dark, but I can feel it there. Waiting. Mocking me.Three days since I saw her picture. Three days of no sleep and too much coffee and this gnawing thing in my chest that won’t let me breathe right.“Moore, you with us?”I blink. Jenkins is staring at me, bushy eyebrows raised like caterpillars having a conversation. The rest of the board members are watching too, various states of concern and irritation on their faces.“Yeah. Sorry.” I straighten in my chair, force myself to focus. “Continue.”Jenkins clears his throat, clearly annoyed, and goes back to his presentation. Numbers flash on the screen. Revenue streams, market analysis, competitor movements. I should care. This is my company. My baby. Built from the ground up with nothing

PROLOGUESome promises you make when you’re too young to understand what breaking them will cost you.I was eight when I made mine. The Moore mansion felt like a mausoleum that summer. Cold marble floors, echoing hallways, and the kind of silence that pressed against your chest until you couldn’t breathe. Mom was falling apart, piece by piece, and I watched it happen from the shadows. I was good at that. Being invisible. Being quiet. Being the son nobody wanted around while they tore each other to shreds.I found her in the garden. Not Mom. The girl who would ruin me for everyone else. She was small, dark hair falling over her face as she crouched near the fountain, poking at something in the dirt. Her clothes were too big, hand-me-downs probably, and there was a hole in the knee of her jeans. She looked up when my shadow fell across her, and I saw it. The same thing I felt. That hollow, aching loneliness that made your bones hurt.“You’re trespassing,” I said, because I didn’t know h

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    EPILOGUE

**SERENA POV****Two Years Later**The house is chaotic.“Mom! Have you seen my soccer cleats?”“Ethan, they’re by the door where you left them yesterday!” I’m in the kitchen, trying to finish frosting a cake while simultaneously reviewing designs on my tablet.“Found them!” Ethan races past, now eleven years old and somehow even more energetic than before. “Dad! We’re going to be late!”“I’m coming!” Lucas appears, carrying our daughter Grace on his hip. She’s ten months old, all curly dark hair and her father’s eyes, currently trying to grab his glasses. “Someone had a diaper emergency.”“Someone always has a diaper emergency,” I say, but I’m smiling as I take her from him. “Hi, baby girl. Are you making trouble for Daddy?”Grace babbles something that might be words and probably isn’t, her tiny hand reaching for my necklace, a present from Lucas on our wedding day.“Okay, Operation Saturday is in full effect,” Lucas announces, checking his watch. “Ethan, soccer practice at ten. Gra

I can’t speak. Can’t breathe. Can only nod frantically while tears stream down my face.“Is that a yes?” He’s laughing and crying at the same time. “I need to hear you say it.”“Yes!” The word bursts out of me. “Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!”He stands, sliding the ring onto my finger, and then his arms are around me and we’re both crying and laughing and kissing. The ring fits perfectly, the weight of it on my finger feeling right in a way I can’t explain.“I love you,” I sob against his chest. “I love you so much.”“I love you too. Always.” He pulls back just enough to look at me. “Ready for the next part?”“There’s more?”He grins, turning toward the path. “Ethan! Come here, buddy!”Ethan appears, running down the path, and I notice he’s carrying something. An envelope.“Mom!” He crashes into us, hugging us both. “You said yes!”“Of course I said yes.” I’m crying again, holding my son. “Did you know about this?”“I helped plan it!” He’s bouncing. “And I wrote you something. The morning air is crisp with autumn, and I can see the rolling hills of grape vines from our window, leaves turning gold and crimson.“Mom, are you almost ready?” Ethan bursts through the connecting door between our rooms. He’s been weirdly energetic all weekend, practically bouncing with excitement. “Lucas said we should go down soon.”“Almost, baby. Give me five minutes.” I’m doing my makeup, keeping it light and natural. “You seem excited about brun

“No, no. Nothing like that. I’m completely healthy, I promise.” I take a breath, suddenly more nervous than I’ve been about anything in my life. “Ethan, I wanted to talk to you about your mom.”“Okay?” He’s watching me carefully.“You know I love her, right? And I love you too.”“I know. We love you too.” He says it so simply, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.“Well, I want to ask your mom to marry me.” I watch his face for his reaction. “But before I do that, I wanted to talk to you about it. To make sure you’re okay with it. Because this isn’t just about me and your mom. It’s about all three of us.”Ethan’s eyes go wide. “You want to marry my mom?”“I do. Very much. But only if you’re okay with it.”He’s quiet for a moment, and I can see him thinking. “Would that make you my dad? Like, officially?”“If you wanted it to. Your biological father will always be your biological father, but yes, I would be your dad in every way that matters. I would be there for school events
