“No.” The word came out broken. “He didn’t even remember me. From the engagement party. He said he thought he saw me but he wasn’t sure.”

“He was probably nervous—”

“He forgot me, Clara.” I turned to face her, tears burning my eyes. “I held him for three hours when he was born. I counted his fingers and his toes. I sang to him every night. I fought to stay in his life until I physically couldn’t anymore. And he forgot me.”

“Serena….”

“I need air.” I pulled away, headed for the door.

Adrian caught me in the hallway. “Where are you going?”

“I can’t breathe in here.” I pushed past him. “I need to leave.”

“You just got here…”

“And I’ve already seen what I came to see.” I stopped, faced him. “My son doesn’t know me, Adrian. He looked at me like I was a stranger. Because to him, I am. You made sure of that.”

“I’m sorry….”

“Stop f*cking apologizing!” The words exploded out of me. “Stop saying you’re sorry when sorry doesn’t fix anything. Sorry, don't give me back eight years. Sorry doesn’t m

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    Chapter 87: Ethan’s POV Of Meeting His Mother

{To avoid any confusion, this Chapter represent Ethan’s POV, reflecting events from the last two chapters.}**Ethan POV**I knew she was coming before she arrived. Not because anyone told me. Dad hadn’t said anything. Mama Vivian definitely hadn’t. But I’d heard them fighting last night, their voices loud enough to travel upstairs even though they tried to keep quiet.“You invited her? To our home? To Ethan’s birthday?”“He’s her son too, Vivian.”“He’s MY son. I’m the one who raised him.”I’d pulled my pillow over my head after that, not wanting to hear more. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it.S. Moore was coming to my birthday party. My birth mother. The woman everyone said abandoned me. The woman whose face I’d googled a hundred times when no one was looking. The woman who built a fashion empire and looked nothing like someone who didn’t want her kid.I didn’t know how to feel about it.The party started at two. By two fifteen, I was watching the door every few minutes, even th

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    Chapter 85: The Son’s Birthday

**Serena POV**I changed my outfit four times before settling on a simple navy dress. Not too formal. Not too casual. Nothing that screamed “look at me” or “desperate for attention.” Just a mother going to her son’s birthday party.Except I wasn’t just a mother to him. I was a stranger who happened to give birth to him nine years ago.“You ready?” Clara asked from the doorway, keys in hand.“No.” I picked up the gift I’d wrapped and rewrapped a dozen times. “But we’re going anyway.”The drive to the Moore mansion felt like traveling to my own execution. Every mile closer made my chest tighter, my hands shakier, my breath harder to catch.“We can turn around,” Clara said quietly. “Right now. We can turn around and go home and you never have to see that house again.”“I can’t.” My voice cracked. “It’s his birthday. I missed eight of them. I can’t miss another.”The mansion looked exactly the same. Same imposing gates. Same perfectly manicured lawn. Same overwhelming sense that I didn’t

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    Chapter 84: Birthday invitation

**Adrian POV**I sat in my car for twenty minutes after the meeting ended, hands gripping the steering wheel, trying to breathe. She’d looked at me like I was nothing. Like I was just another business associate. Another name on a contract. Not the man she’d married. Not the father of her child. Not even someone worth basic human warmth.Just nothing. My phone buzzed. Vivian: *How did the meeting go?*I stared at the message, and couldn't bring myself to type a response. How did I explain that I’d spent two hours being professionally eviscerated by the woman I’d destroyed? That every attempt I made to connect, to apologize, to show her I was trying to be better was met with ice? That I deserved every second of it?I drove to the office on autopilot, went through the motions of work, attended meetings I barely remembered. My assistant kept giving me concerned looks but didn’t say anything. At six, I finally left. Drove home to the mansion where Vivian and my mother and my children were

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    Chapter 83: The Collaboration of Enemies

The first meeting was scheduled for Tuesday at ten a.m. in a neutral conference room at a hotel neither of us owned.I arrived fifteen minutes early with Clara, Amelie, and my lead architect, Louis. Professional. Prepared. Armed with every defense I could think of.Adrian was already there. He stood when I walked in, and I watched his face do that thing it always did now when he saw me. That mixture of guilt and longing and pain that I refused to let affect me.“Serena. Thank you for coming.”“Let’s get started.” I didn’t shake his hand. Didn’t acknowledge the greeting beyond a curt nod. Just moved to my seat, opened my laptop, and pulled up the project files. His face fell slightly, but he recovered. “Of course. I’ve prepared a presentation on the scope of the development project. The timeline, the budget projections, the target market—”“I’ve read the proposal,” I interrupted. “All fifty-three pages. I don’t need a presentation. I need specifics on how design integration will work w

  • I’m Back, Mr. CEO    Chapter 82: The Contract Offer

**Serena POV**The contract arrived by courier at ten in the morning.Amelie brought it into my office with a confused expression. “This just came from Moore Enterprises. It’s addressed to you personally.”I looked up from the designs I’d been reviewing, felt my stomach tighten. “From Adrian?”“The return address says Moore Enterprises, but there’s a personal note attached.” She set the package on my desk like it might explode.I stared at it for a full minute before opening it.Inside was a thick contract, professionally bound, with all the legal language and official seals that made it look legitimate. But it was the handwritten note on top that made my hands start shaking.*Serena, I know you won’t take my calls or see me. I understand why. But I’m hoping you’ll at least look at this. It’s a business proposal. A real one. No tricks. No strings. Just an opportunity that could benefit both our companies. If you’re interested, review the terms. If not, throw it away and I’ll stop tryi
