Chapter 4

작가: Mercy Ashquill
When I arrived at the main hall, Kieran and Sera were already waiting at the entrance.

They stood together like they owned the place, their expressions dripping with smugness.

“Well,” Kieran said as I approached. “I knew you’d come crawling back. You blocked both of us, then got your father to arrange this meeting to pressure me into announcing our bonding early.”

He crossed his arms and smirked. “You’re scared something will go wrong at the bonding ceremony, aren’t you? So you want to lock me down now before I change my mind.”

Before I could respond, he shoved me hard.

I stumbled backward and hit the wall behind me.

Pain shot through my shoulder and I felt my dress tear.

“You need to apologize to Sera first,” Kieran demanded. “Apologize for hanging up on her, for blocking her, for being a jealous bitch. Then maybe I’ll consider going through with this bonding.”

Sera’s eyes went wide with fake concern. “Kieran, it’s okay. I’m used to Elisa treating me badly. I’ve accepted that she’ll always hate me for being close to you.”

She touched her chest delicately. “As long as I can still see you sometimes, I don’t mind if she yells at me or pushes me around. I know I’m just a low-ranking omega. I don’t deserve to be treated well anyway.”

Her pitiful tone made Kieran's expression harden even more.

He grabbed my hand and yanked me toward him.

"You hear that? Sera's willing to put up with your abuse just to be near me. The least you can do is show some fucking gratitude."

“Apologize to her now, or you can forget about this bonding entirely. And tell your father to stop trying to force this announcement!”

I pulled my arm free from his grip and met his eyes. “I already told you. I’m not choosing you as my mate.”

“Still playing this game?” Kieran laughed. “Your father invited my entire pack here for the announcement. Everyone knows today is when you’ll officially declare me as your chosen mate. Stop embarrassing yourself.”

Before I could respond, my father’s voice cut through the air.

“What’s going on here?”

I turned to see him standing near the entrance to the main hall.

Beside him stood Damon Thorne.

My breath caught in my throat.

The curse-breaking ritual had worked.

Damon was standing on his own, no longer weakened by the curse that had been slowly killing him.

He wore a dark suit that emphasized his broad shoulders, and his silver eyes found mine immediately.

When he saw the red mark on my wrist where Kieran had grabbed me, his expression darkened.

“You’re hurt,” he said quietly.

He moved forward and pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, offering it to me.

Kieran stepped between us immediately, his chest puffed out.

“Damon, we haven't bonded yet, but Elisa and I have an understanding. There's no need for you to be so concerned about her."

He leaned in closer to me and muttered under his breath, “I’ll let this slide today. But if you ever bully Sera again, I won’t be so forgiving.”

Then he looped his arm through mine and said loudly, “Come on. Our fathers and all the guests are waiting inside. The engagement announcement is about to begin.”

He was putting on a show, trying to claim ownership in front of Damon.

It was pathetic.

I pulled my arm free from his grip.

Kieran never wanted me.

He only wanted the power that came with bonding to an Alpha’s daughter.

The trade routes, the alliances, the status.

Once he had those, he’d planned to discard me completely.

My father’s expression turned ice cold.

He stepped forward and gently took my hand, then turned to address everyone present.

“Let’s go inside. It’s time to make the announcement.”

The main hall was already filled with pack members and allied leaders, all gathered for what they assumed would be the formal declaration of my bonding with Kieran.

My father led me to the center of the room where a raised platform had been set up.

“Today is significant for both our pack and our allies. Elisa will reveal her chosen mate, and with that choice comes control of the Northern trade routes.”

Kieran smiled widely and moved closer to the platform.

He looked like he was already planning his acceptance speech, but my father turned away from him.

My father took my hand, then turned and extended his other hand toward Damon.

The room erupted in shocked murmurs.

Damon stepped forward and placed his hand in my father’s.

“My daughter has chosen Damon Thorne of the Silvermoon Pack as her mate,” my father announced. “The bonding ceremony will take place as scheduled in seven days.”

He placed my hand in Damon’s.

Then he turned to Kieran and spoke with authority. “From this moment forward, you will address her with the respect she deserves as his future mate.”

The room went silent.

then burst into shocked voices.

Damon looked down at our joined hands, then into my eyes. “Elisa, are you ready to be my mate?“

I must have fallen asleep at some point because when I opened my eyes again, the room was filled with the light of approaching dusk.I needed to get back to the healing center to check on him, so I quickly stood and straightened my clothes. But as I walked toward the door, I found Kieran standing in the hallway blocking my path with his arms crossed.“You can’t go through with bonding Damon, I’m not going to let you ruin everything!”I raised an eyebrow and looked at him with contempt. “And why exactly can’t I?”“Because you’re supposed to be my mate, that’s why.”“In my previous life, you chose me and we bonded together, and we had a perfect bond that everyone in the region envied.”“We were completely happy and in harmony, the ideal fated mates that other packs looked up to as an example of true love.”Kieran was putting all his cards on the table now and revealing the secret that he too had been reborn. But hearing this twisted version of our previous life, I could only laugh at how

Several hours passed while I sat in the observation room watching through the glass as the healers worked tirelessly on Damon. My father had returned briefly to check on the progress before leaving again to handle urgent pack business.I'd sent word to Damon's father about an hour ago that everything seemed to be proceeding according to plan so far.But the waiting was excruciating because I knew these next few hours would determine whether the curse-breaking ritual would hold permanently or rebound.Through the observation window I could see the sweat on the healers' faces as they concentrated on maintaining the steady flow of healing energy.Three hours later, the light above the treatment room finally went dark and the head healer emerged looking exhausted but relieved."The stabilization treatment was successful, and Damon's condition has improved significantly.""He'll need to remain in the recovery ward for the next few days to ensure there are no complications or relapses.""Onc

Sera was only a few months younger than me, and I still remembered the day my father brought her home to live with us.She'd been found wandering near our pack borders wearing torn clothes and covered in bruises from whatever she'd escaped from.My father took one look at her frightened face and immediately declared she would become part of our pack from that moment forward. They'd given Sera everything she could possibly need to recover from whatever trauma she'd endured before finding us.They spoiled her with lots of gifts and affection. My parents never expected her to contribute anything meaningful to the pack or develop any particular skills, they just wanted her to feel safe and loved.I'd been equally devoted to making sure Sera felt welcome and cherished, sharing everything I had with her without a second thought. She was the closest thing I'd ever had to a real sibling, and I'd treasured that bond more than almost anything else.I never expected that all the love and generosi

"What did you just say?" I asked coldly. He seemed to realize what he had just spilled out as his expression turned apologetic."I know it sounds harsh, but it's the truth, Elisa. Stop lying to yourself about what this bonding with Damon really is."He pushed the ring closer to my face."Just accept reality and take this ring. We both know where you truly belong.""Take that away from my face," I said flatly.Kieran's jaw tightened and he stepped closer instead of backing away. "Is this because the ring isn't expensive enough? I know it's not the most extravagant piece, but once we're properly bonded I'll get you something truly worthy of an Alpha's mate.""You can have any ring you want, any jewelry you desire, I'll commission the finest craftsmen in all the territories to create pieces specifically for you."I looked at him for a long moment, then slowly extended my hand palm up.His entire face lit up with excitement as he moved to place the ring on my finger. But instead of lettin

The rest of the ceremony proceeded without further disruptions, and by late afternoon everything had been finalized according to pack traditions. As guests began departing, I noticed Damon looked even more exhausted than he had at the beginning of the day.His father and I exchanged a glance, and I promised to keep a close eye on him over the coming days. But over the following days, something felt wrong.Every time I saw Damon, he looked more worn down than before. He was growing quieter, more withdrawn, and the color that had returned to his face on the day of the ceremony was fading again. On the third evening, my phone rang.It was Damon's father."Elisa. The healers have told us that Damon needs stabilization treatments to ensure the curse-breaking ritual holds permanently. Without them, everything we accomplished could unravel."He paused."He's refusing to take them."My fingers went cold around the phone.I didn't even stop to change. I was already moving toward the door befor

The bonding ceremony began exactly as planned with guests arriving throughout the early morning hours.Pack leaders and their families presented formal invitations at the entrance before being escorted to their designated areas within the ceremonial hall.My father and Damon's father stood together on the raised platform and jointly announced that today's bonding would strengthen both our packs and confirm our positions as future leaders.Once the official declarations ended, Damon and I were expected to walk through the assembled crowd with ceremonial wine to personally receive congratulations from each group. We moved slowly between the rows of seated guests, pausing to accept blessings and well wishes.About halfway through our rounds, I overheard a cluster of young wolves near the refreshment tables speaking in hushed voices."I'm betting three months before the curse rebounds and kills him.""Too generous, I give it six weeks maximum, the ritual never fully works and everyone know
