If there was one thing I hated, it was walking into a room and catching bullshit I wasn’t prepared for.
Like my brother kissing my sister-in-law.
“What the fuck” was the first thing that came to my mind.
My jaw tightened as I stared.
Although he had pulled away at that instant, that wasn't fast enough for my eyes because I had already seen the shit he was on.
How could he move so fast on her? I mean, I knew Rex was fast, but I didn’t know he was “kiss-your-brother’s-wife-before-dinner” fast.
I turned to Debbie, and I could see the shock and guilt in her beautiful eyes. She looked like she wanted to apologize and disappear at the same time.
And then,
My gaze shifted to Rex. That sly wolf. I exhaled because as much as I wanted to make some comments, and as much as I wanted to confront Rex for this shit he just did,
This wasn't the right time to be on his matter.
While I was in the kitchen, Black's car had just entered the compound.
River had asked that I call Rex because we knew he came up here to treat her wound.
But… I guess he was treating lips instead of ribs.
Voice firm and non-sentimental, “Black's here,” I informed.
Then, one last look, and I pushed back, walking down the stairs. But not before I heard Rex tell Debbie to stay back.
I got down the stairs. I tried removing my mind completely from what I had just seen.
My eyes caught him.
Black. He was there, standing in the middle of the room like he owned the space and the air we breathed.
River was seated on the couch in front of him.
“Hey! Wife beater,” I greeted mockingly as I strolled down the stairs.
“Where's Debbie?” he asked, with a loud voice that echoed through the walls, looking at me.
I scoffed, pointing at myself, “You asking me that?”
“She’s not here, Black. How many times do I have to tell you that?” River lied.
I furrowed. Why is he lying? I thought we were going to show this guy some shit.
Why did we have to lie that Debbie wasn't here?
But then again, I wasn't about to start interrupting River. Maybe he had a strategy up his sleeves. I sat on the couch closest to me.
“What do you mean she's not here? I can fucking smell that slut here. Where the fuck is she?” he asked, looking at the three of us. Rex was here now.
He looked up the stairs like he could see her. “Debbie! Get your ass down here now! Or else—”
I didn't let him finish. His attitude, the audacity to still show arrogance after such brutality. Nah… I wasn't in for that bullshit.
I stood up from where I was seated.
“Or else what, Black?” I growled, my fist balled as I started walking up to him. At this point, I wanted nothing but to break his cavity. “Or else what?”
Before I could move further, Rex held my hand, restricting me from going forward.
My gaze shifted to him, my chest heaving with brewing rage. I still had a score to settle with Rex for touching that babe before I did. But then—
Black laughed, a short mocking one.
Walking closer to me like he was accepting my dare. I guess it was still not clear to Black who he was dealing with. But before he got any further, River went up to him, holding him back from meeting me, while Rex still held me.
“Black. We are not going to fight,” River started. “We are brothers. We are not fighting. Debbie is not here. If she is, we would have told you so.” River lied again.
But this whole thing River was doing—lying here and there—I wasn't having it anymore. Like… why do we have to pamper a wife beater? Or did they not see the bruises this motherfucker inflicted on that girl?
“Fucking stop it, River,” I snapped. “Stop it with the lying shit. She is here. Matter of fact, she is upstairs. Do your fucking worst, Black. Do your fucking worst!” I snapped.
Black’s gaze shifted upstairs. “Debbie! You come down here now or I will bring this place down!” he barked.
I scoffed. “You wouldn't dare. You've not got the guts, I tell you.”
“Rain!” River snapped at me, calling me to order.
I knew he wanted peace, but this guy needed beating. A little touch to make his senses right. Not peace.
“Get down here now! And your punishment will be less, or you will have to pay heavily for your arrogance,” Black said, looking up.
I turned.
My eyes went up—
And it was Debbie. She didn't stay in. She was standing above us, high on the stairs, watching everything unfold.
“Please Debbie, get back inside,” Rex called softly.
“Debbie, come down from there! Get into the car! Or it will be worse when you come begging!” he stated while pointing a finger at her.
Then,
“Yo! Yo! Back,” River frowned, stepping away irritatively from Black. “Wake up, dude. Nobody is begging to come back to an abusive man,” River said, earning a short chuckle from Rex and me.
“He thinks we are in a movie,” I added.
“Did you see what you did to her? That’s not pleasure. That’s pain. No woman will come back begging after that. Think,” River retorted.
I think it was at that point that it dawned on him that we weren't letting Debbie leave this house to his.
He turned his gaze to us.
“You know what happens?” he asked, pointing a finger at us. “Three of you. All of you. Take that big-for-nothing thing. I give her to you all free of charge,” he growled.
“After all, she's of no use to me. Just lazing around doing nothing, adding no value. Just a worthless bag of trash. You can have that buffalo for all I care. I don't give a fuck,” he spat.
“And you, Debbie,” he turned to Debbie, “brace your fucking self because as from the day you ran out of that house, you ceased to be the future Luna of this pack. You will go back to that wretch of a place you call home. And only then will you remember how worthless you have always been.”
I turned to River, already laughing at how childish Black was being. Who gave a fuck about being a Luna to an abusive alpha?
“Shuu shuu, Alpha,” I gestured mockingly. “Your wife is gone. Matter of fact, she's not coming back.” I spat.
His jaw tightened, his gaze hard on me. “And you, Rain, this is not ending here.”
“And it's not ending anytime soon,” I added. “Use the fucking door, Black. Use the door.”
He stood there for a while, looking at us like he wanted to devour.
Then he turned, walking out of the door.
Not before I shouted, “Don't ever come here again!”
The door banged shut, the living room now silent like a dead room.
The weight of what had just happened was now setting in.
No, it wasn't like I was afraid of Black's threat. Nah… not one bit. But then, I knew Black. He was corny. And he could do anything just to prove a point. And that includes hurting Debbie.
But then, something made me pause my thinking.
A sniff.
My eyes went up, up to where Debbie had stood. Tears were streaming down her eyes. She wasn't even looking at us. Her gaze was at the door where Black had just gone out.
“Debs,” River called.
But before I could move, she ran off and then—
Bang!
The door to her room slammed shut loudly.
Damn…
That was not good.
I moved regardless, wanting to go be with her, but then—
“Let her be,” Rex's voice stopped me from moving further up the steps.
“Yeah… let her be alone for now,” River added.
I still wanted to go. Because letting her be for now didn't really make sense to me. Letting her be meant letting her cry. But then, I didn't want to look like the senseless person amongst us. So…
…
Hours later, I had served dinner. I was the chef of the house. Did the cooking because I enjoyed it.
But Debbie was still upstairs.
She had been there for an hour? Or three? I didn't check, but I knew it's been a while since we had let her be. And now, I thought it was time she came down for dinner.
“I think I should go call Debbie. She needs to eat,” I said as I served the food to my brothers.
Rex picked up his food, already eating.
River nodded. “True, but… I think you should just arrange hers. I will take it to her. You know, she may not be in the right frame of mind to eat here with us.”
Rex nodded in agreement, and I also saw sense in what River was saying.
“Ok then, I will prepare hers separately. You send it to her,” I said.
Rain The woods went dead silent. It was a silence so heavy it felt like it was crushing us. I felt my heart stop, then start again with a slow, painful thud. Rex didn't move. He didn't blink. But I could see the way his knuckles turned white as he gripped the car door. "You know, Black told me it was a chore he had to finish. He went on lying about how Debbie would just grace the ceremony because he was still legally married to her, and that during this coronation ritual he was going to divorce her under the full moon and make full moon vows to me, then I will be crowned his Luna," she continued blabbing. "He said the baby’s remains are buried in the deepest part of the palace grounds. Only the people working with the High Priest are allowed to go there." I felt a wave of nausea hit me. A child. A baby. Our family. Black hadn't just taken Debbie; he had murdered a life before it even began. And worse, he had called it a bastard. Then, Chloe said, looking between the three of u
Rain "Maid clothes?" I repeated. I felt like the air had been sucked out of my lungs. "As in... female wear? I have to wear women's clothes?” "Uhhh… this is not good," River said, rubbing his temple. "Rain, listen—" "Chloe!" I called, trying to keep my voice calm and respectful even though I knew I was stepping away from it. "Look at us. How do we blend in as women? Is there anything that makes it believable that we are women with this build?" "This is a joke, right?" River asked. "I’m not joking," Chloe snapped, her own temper flaring. "Look, I have everything planned out. I'm not daft, you know." Oh, she is. "If you go in there dressed as men, the guards will spot you in a second." "They won't," I argued. "So what if they stop you for an errand?" she asked. "What if one of them says, 'Oh, come help' or 'Come for this or that'? What do you do? Huh? You disappear?" Silence. Because as much as I hated to admit it, she was right. Anything could happen. But so could anything
Rain We followed Rex to the far back of the room, through a heavy sliding door. He pushed aside a pile of crates, revealing a heavy iron door. He punched a code into a keypad, and the door hissed open. Beyond it was a tunnel. A real, deep, professional-grade tunnel. Like, I mean a fucking tunnel in this building. I froze, sharing a look with River. "Rex," I said, looking into the darkness. "Is this part of the building's original plan?" "No," Rex said, stepping into the tunnel. We kept moving. The deeper we went, the more the ground sloped down. I could hear the faint sound of water dripping. The walls were reinforced with steel beams. "Don't tell me you did this," River said, his voice echoing. "You've had this place all this while? Where does this lead to?" "You'll find out," Rex said. "No, we don't want to find out." I stopped walking. He did, too. We all paused in the middle of the hole. "What is this, Rex?" I asked. "Where is this? And when did you do this? We’ve lived he
Rain I stood by the window, my fingers twitching against the glass. Outside, the sun was far too bright for a day that felt this dark. The driveway was crawling with them—Grandalpha’s "Elite Guard." They were standing tall in their black uniforms, silver crests shining on their chests. Days had crawled by filled with plans, anticipation, and work. Today was the day we were supposed to get in, rescue Debbie, and then, whatever happens, get out of this territory to our newfound space. But now things have taken another route. It's been announced that there is no movement in the pack. Nobody is going out, and if at all, it will be for something reasonable. Today has been declared a 24-hour curfew. But that’s not even the worst of it. The worst is… we are surrounded. Like… currently surrounded. Guarded or, better still, caged. "Safe," the Grandalpha said. "Today is the coronation moon and I want everyone's territory guarded. Anything can happen. And I don't want what happened last ti
Chloe.i stood by the large window of the suite, watching the sun crawl up over the palace walls. It was 8:00 a.m. The air already felt heavy, like the world was holding its breath for the full moon tonight. Behind me, I heard the click of Black’s expensive shoes on the marble floor. I turned around, putting on my best "innocent" face. "I need to go out for a few hours, Black," I said softly. He stopped in his tracks, his forehead wrinkling into a deep frown. "No. You're not going out, Chloe. It’s the day of the ritual. The palace is under total lockdown. My father has guards at every corner of the pack territory. You know it’s not safe." "I just need to get a few things," I insisted, walking toward him. I reached out and traced the collar of his silk shirt. "It’s for tonight. After the ritual... when everything is over and you are the King of Kings... we’re going to be alone. I want to have something special to wear for you. A surprise." Black looked down at me. In his eyes,
Debbie "Because there may be no food in the afterlife," she said. I could feel the concern. "What if you remain hungry forever? Maybe you should have one last meal." "Me? Is it not us?" "You know I'm not staying for long. I'm moving to the next special born." True. Wolves don't remain in a lifeless soul. One last taste of life before I leave won't hurt. "Fine," I muttered. "I’ll eat. Then I’ll do it." I said, finally succumbing to her idea. I picked up the spoon. I scooped up a big portion of rice and a piece of meat. I shoved it into my mouth, expecting the warm, savory taste of home. But as I chewed, something felt wrong. It didn't taste like rice. It didn't taste like food at all. It felt like I was chewing on small, hard pebbles. My teeth crunched down on something that felt like soft plastic. "What the...?" I spat the mouthful out into my hand. My eyes widened. It wasn't rice. Mixed in with the real food were squishy plastic balls. The surface texture looked exact
