If there was one thing I hated, it was walking into a room and catching bullshit I wasn’t prepared for.
Like my brother kissing my sister-in-law.
“What the fuck” was the first thing that came to my mind.
My jaw tightened as I stared.
Although he had pulled away at that instant, that wasn't fast enough for my eyes because I had already seen the shit he was on.
How could he move so fast on her? I mean, I knew Rex was fast, but I didn’t know he was “kiss-your-brother’s-wife-before-dinner” fast.
I turned to Debbie, and I could see the shock and guilt in her beautiful eyes. She looked like she wanted to apologize and disappear at the same time.
And then,
My gaze shifted to Rex. That sly wolf. I exhaled because as much as I wanted to make some comments, and as much as I wanted to confront Rex for this shit he just did,
This wasn't the right time to be on his matter.
While I was in the kitchen, Black's car had just entered the compound.
River had asked that I call Rex because we knew he came up here to treat her wound.
But… I guess he was treating lips instead of ribs.
Voice firm and non-sentimental, “Black's here,” I informed.
Then, one last look, and I pushed back, walking down the stairs. But not before I heard Rex tell Debbie to stay back.
I got down the stairs. I tried removing my mind completely from what I had just seen.
My eyes caught him.
Black. He was there, standing in the middle of the room like he owned the space and the air we breathed.
River was seated on the couch in front of him.
“Hey! Wife beater,” I greeted mockingly as I strolled down the stairs.
“Where's Debbie?” he asked, with a loud voice that echoed through the walls, looking at me.
I scoffed, pointing at myself, “You asking me that?”
“She’s not here, Black. How many times do I have to tell you that?” River lied.
I furrowed. Why is he lying? I thought we were going to show this guy some shit.
Why did we have to lie that Debbie wasn't here?
But then again, I wasn't about to start interrupting River. Maybe he had a strategy up his sleeves. I sat on the couch closest to me.
“What do you mean she's not here? I can fucking smell that slut here. Where the fuck is she?” he asked, looking at the three of us. Rex was here now.
He looked up the stairs like he could see her. “Debbie! Get your ass down here now! Or else—”
I didn't let him finish. His attitude, the audacity to still show arrogance after such brutality. Nah… I wasn't in for that bullshit.
I stood up from where I was seated.
“Or else what, Black?” I growled, my fist balled as I started walking up to him. At this point, I wanted nothing but to break his cavity. “Or else what?”
Before I could move further, Rex held my hand, restricting me from going forward.
My gaze shifted to him, my chest heaving with brewing rage. I still had a score to settle with Rex for touching that babe before I did. But then—
Black laughed, a short mocking one.
Walking closer to me like he was accepting my dare. I guess it was still not clear to Black who he was dealing with. But before he got any further, River went up to him, holding him back from meeting me, while Rex still held me.
“Black. We are not going to fight,” River started. “We are brothers. We are not fighting. Debbie is not here. If she is, we would have told you so.” River lied again.
But this whole thing River was doing—lying here and there—I wasn't having it anymore. Like… why do we have to pamper a wife beater? Or did they not see the bruises this motherfucker inflicted on that girl?
“Fucking stop it, River,” I snapped. “Stop it with the lying shit. She is here. Matter of fact, she is upstairs. Do your fucking worst, Black. Do your fucking worst!” I snapped.
Black’s gaze shifted upstairs. “Debbie! You come down here now or I will bring this place down!” he barked.
I scoffed. “You wouldn't dare. You've not got the guts, I tell you.”
“Rain!” River snapped at me, calling me to order.
I knew he wanted peace, but this guy needed beating. A little touch to make his senses right. Not peace.
“Get down here now! And your punishment will be less, or you will have to pay heavily for your arrogance,” Black said, looking up.
I turned.
My eyes went up—
And it was Debbie. She didn't stay in. She was standing above us, high on the stairs, watching everything unfold.
“Please Debbie, get back inside,” Rex called softly.
“Debbie, come down from there! Get into the car! Or it will be worse when you come begging!” he stated while pointing a finger at her.
Then,
“Yo! Yo! Back,” River frowned, stepping away irritatively from Black. “Wake up, dude. Nobody is begging to come back to an abusive man,” River said, earning a short chuckle from Rex and me.
“He thinks we are in a movie,” I added.
“Did you see what you did to her? That’s not pleasure. That’s pain. No woman will come back begging after that. Think,” River retorted.
I think it was at that point that it dawned on him that we weren't letting Debbie leave this house to his.
He turned his gaze to us.
“You know what happens?” he asked, pointing a finger at us. “Three of you. All of you. Take that big-for-nothing thing. I give her to you all free of charge,” he growled.
“After all, she's of no use to me. Just lazing around doing nothing, adding no value. Just a worthless bag of trash. You can have that buffalo for all I care. I don't give a fuck,” he spat.
“And you, Debbie,” he turned to Debbie, “brace your fucking self because as from the day you ran out of that house, you ceased to be the future Luna of this pack. You will go back to that wretch of a place you call home. And only then will you remember how worthless you have always been.”
I turned to River, already laughing at how childish Black was being. Who gave a fuck about being a Luna to an abusive alpha?
“Shuu shuu, Alpha,” I gestured mockingly. “Your wife is gone. Matter of fact, she's not coming back.” I spat.
His jaw tightened, his gaze hard on me. “And you, Rain, this is not ending here.”
“And it's not ending anytime soon,” I added. “Use the fucking door, Black. Use the door.”
He stood there for a while, looking at us like he wanted to devour.
Then he turned, walking out of the door.
Not before I shouted, “Don't ever come here again!”
The door banged shut, the living room now silent like a dead room.
The weight of what had just happened was now setting in.
No, it wasn't like I was afraid of Black's threat. Nah… not one bit. But then, I knew Black. He was corny. And he could do anything just to prove a point. And that includes hurting Debbie.
But then, something made me pause my thinking.
A sniff.
My eyes went up, up to where Debbie had stood. Tears were streaming down her eyes. She wasn't even looking at us. Her gaze was at the door where Black had just gone out.
“Debs,” River called.
But before I could move, she ran off and then—
Bang!
The door to her room slammed shut loudly.
Damn…
That was not good.
I moved regardless, wanting to go be with her, but then—
“Let her be,” Rex's voice stopped me from moving further up the steps.
“Yeah… let her be alone for now,” River added.
I still wanted to go. Because letting her be for now didn't really make sense to me. Letting her be meant letting her cry. But then, I didn't want to look like the senseless person amongst us. So…
…
Hours later, I had served dinner. I was the chef of the house. Did the cooking because I enjoyed it.
But Debbie was still upstairs.
She had been there for an hour? Or three? I didn't check, but I knew it's been a while since we had let her be. And now, I thought it was time she came down for dinner.
“I think I should go call Debbie. She needs to eat,” I said as I served the food to my brothers.
Rex picked up his food, already eating.
River nodded. “True, but… I think you should just arrange hers. I will take it to her. You know, she may not be in the right frame of mind to eat here with us.”
Rex nodded in agreement, and I also saw sense in what River was saying.
“Ok then, I will prepare hers separately. You send it to her,” I said.
DebbieRiver and Rain rushed into the room. Their faces were full of concern, but I stayed frozen on the sofa. I felt like a glass statue that had already been smashed."Debbs, talk to me," River said, kneeling in front of me. He reached for my hand, but I pulled it away. "Why are you crying? What is it?”I couldn't even get the words out. My throat felt like it was full of sand. Besides, how do I explain that I wanted to go and love the man they had warned me about, and now it backfired? He turned to Rex. “Dude, what’s wrong with her? What happened?”Rex leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms over his broad chest. "She went to surprise Black with breakfast. She found him in bed with Chloe."The room went silent. I waited for the explosion. I waited for River to gasp in shock or for Rain to say something. But the explosion never came.River lowered his head, his shoulders slumping. Rain looked away, shifting his weight from foot to foot. They didn't look shocked. The silence
Debbie.I looked up and I saw who it was. It was Rex.My eyes filled with tears, streaming down uncontrollably."Debbie?”My legs felt like they were made of water under Rex’s grip. The image of Chloe in that bed was burned into my eyes. Every time I blinked, I saw her messy hair and that smug look on her face."Rex," I choked out, my voice cracking. "Rex, he... they...""Shhh," Rex whispered. He just tightened his grip on my arms, his body like a solid wall of stone against my shaking frame. "Not here. Walk, Debbie. Just walk."He led me away from that hallway. I stumbled, my feet catching on the carpet, but he held me up. He took me deep into the private wing of the resort. He opened a heavy door to a suite I hadn't seen before and pulled me inside. The moment the door clicked shut, the dam broke.I fell to my knees on the floor. I didn't care about my dress. I didn't care about how stupid I looked right now."He lied!" I shrieked, hitting my fists against my own thighs. "He was on
Black.I watched the door slam shut. The sound echoed in the room like a gunshot. The silver tray was on the floor, eggs and fruit smashed into the expensive carpet, and the juice looked like a dark stain that would never be scrubbed out.Debbie was gone.I turned around, my face hot with a mix of fear and pure rage. Chloe was still sitting there, leaning against the headboard of my bed. She looked bored, like she was watching a movie she had already seen. She reached for a glass of water on the nightstand."What the hell was that?" I roared. I didn't care that the walls were thin. "I told you to stay in the bedroom! I told you to not come out or say shit if you saw me talking to anyone!!"Chloe rolled her eyes. She took a slow sip of water. "Excuse me? Don’t shout at me, Black. You didn't tell me you were going to answer the door. I just fucking woke up. Didn't see you on the bed. Who knows your wife has you in mind this early? Besides, why are you so upset? It’s not like you actuall
DebbieI woke up with the sun streaming through the window, feeling a lightness in my chest that I hadn't felt in years. The night before with Black had changed something. His apology, his tears — even though he didn't explicitly cry, I could still feel it.And then there was his promise of a fresh start — it all felt so real. I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Did I feel guilty about the brothers? Yes, I did. I felt really guilty. But now, I wanted to make things right. I wanted to be the wife he was finally asking me to be. At least give him that chance. He's begged for it. It's only human that I let him. I mean, you never know people until you give them a chance to prove themselves right, do you?I hopped out of bed, dressed quickly, and headed straight for the resort’s massive kitchen. The smell of fresh bread and brewing coffee filled the air."Good morning," I beamed at the head chef. "I’d like to prepare a special breakfast tray. Something heart-shaped, may
Debbie. The lobby was dead quiet as Black stayed there on one knee. I felt like the world had stopped moving. Everyone was watching us—the staff, the other guests, and most importantly, his brothers. I looked at River and Rain. My heart was thumping against my ribs. They both looked back at me, their faces hard and unreadable.Slowly, they both gave me a small, almost unnoticeable shrug. It was a "go ahead" look, but I could see the pain in River’s eyes and the tension in Rain’s jaw. They were stepping back to let me make a choice."Yes," I whispered, my voice sounding small in the big room.Black stood up, his face breaking into a soft, relieved smile. He took my hand and led me away. We didn't go to the main restaurant. He had prepared something private, a secluded spot near the edge of the woods. It was beautiful. There were white candles everywhere, the soft glow lighting up a table set for two. The smell of expensive wine and flowers filled the air."I’ve missed you, Debbie," Bla
DebbieI stepped out of the bathroom feeling like a new woman, though my skin still prickled from the memory of Rex’s voice.I dressed quickly, choosing a flowy sundown dress that felt light against the humid mountain air. When I reached the lobby, River was already waiting, looking sharp and refreshed. But he wasn't alone.Rain was leaning against a pillar, tossing a set of car keys in the air with a mischievous glint in his eyes."What is he doing here?" I asked, looking at River. "I thought this was our 'apology' tour.""I couldn't let him go alone, baby," Rain chirped, stepping forward to tuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "Who’s going to protect you from his boring stories? Besides, I know all the best spots in town."River rolled his eyes. "He wouldn't stay behind even if I locked him in the cell. He loves me that much. Let's just go."“You wish,” Rain retorted. We didn't fight over whose car I was to take this time. The drive into the mountain town was loud and full of
