Chapter 10

Lily

“Are you okay?” Wesley asks, but when I look up at him, his face isn’t gentle and not very caring either. He truly lives up to the office rumor of his heart being made out of ice.

I nod, not trusting myself to speak. Wesley studies me for a long moment before walking over to his desk and taking a seat. I’m unsure whether to leave or stay, still feeling shaken from what I just witnessed. But before I can even think of leaving, Wesley speaks.

“You shouldn’t be eavesdropping on conversations you’re not part of,” he says sternly, his gaze piercing into mine.

“I know. I’m sorry,” I say, keeping my eyes downcast.

He leans forward, his elbows on the desk. “But you don’t have to worry about Freddy. He won’t bother you again.”

“I’m not worried about him,” I say, looking up at him. Not a hair is out of place, and he looks so composed and calm that it’s almost scary. It makes me whisper my following sentence. “I’m more worried about you.”
