Chapter 2

Author: Moore
I looked up into Jacob's cold face, barely recognizing the man standing in front of me.

"Jacob, the team will never agree to this. You're the captain. You can't just gamble with their lives."

Jacob stared at me before letting out a chuckle. "Wendy, replacing the team healer was a unanimous decision. Did you really think they'd side with you just because you patched them up?

"Truth is, everyone's sick and tired of your bossy, overbearing attitude. They'd much rather have someone sweet and caring like Yelena as our healer."

I stood frozen, completely speechless. "That's… impossible…"

Every word they had said to me over the last five years flashed through my mind.

"Wendy, if it weren't for you, I'd have died from wolfsbane poisoning years ago."

"You're not just our healer. You're our guardian angel."

"With you here, we can fight off Rogue raids without fear."

The very people who once claimed they couldn't live without me were tossing me aside.

Perhaps sensing how pale I looked, Jacob took a step forward and pulled me into his arms. "Look, it doesn't matter who holds the healer title in the team. As long as you're by my side, what does your official title matter anyway?"

I didn't move. My eyes drifted down to the text Dad had just sent. "Your escort is on the way. They'll cross into the Silverfang pack in three days to bring you home."

I quietly set my phone down and replied to Jacob in a subdued voice, "Fine."

Jacob's body stiffened. "Wendy… Are you really okay with this?"

He had fully prepared himself for a fight. In the past, I would have thrown everything in sight at him, screaming and demanding to know why he was doing this to me.

But I didn't.

My compliance threw him off completely.

But moments later, as if he'd figured it out, a satisfied smile spread across his lips. "Don't worry. As long as you back Yelena up, I won't kick you off the team."

He knew how hard I had worked to join the patrol team. He assumed I'd bow my head just to stay.

"Make sure you show up early tomorrow. It's Yelena's first day, and she'll be nervous. Make sure you support her."

He kissed my forehead. His voice turned soft and gentle as he said, "Yelena's too anxious to sleep tonight. I'm going over to check on her. Don't be mad at me anymore. Even if you packed your bags, where would you even go? Just stay home and wait for me."

Jacob left in a hurry without giving me another glance.

I stood there for a long time. Only when his footsteps had completely faded outside the door did I slowly zip my bags.

When did Jacob change?

Back then, whenever I saved him from the brink of death, he'd look at me with tears in his eyes and say, "Wendy, I am so lucky. I have the most amazing mate in the world. With you by my side, I'm going to be the best patrol captain this pack has ever seen."

Back then, his eyes were always full of pride.

He used to brag about me to every member on the team, celebrating my new potion formulas even harder than his own promotions.

As my healing abilities grew stronger, I became indispensable to the patrol team.

The members used to say, "Jacob couldn't have made captain without Wendy."

"Without Wendy, there's no way we'd have a zero-casualty record."

"She's our savior, the real MVP of this squad."

Hearing those words, Jacob stopped smiling like he used to. Instead, he started nitpicking everything I did.

And then, Yelena came back.

My spiraling thoughts were shattered by a sudden phone ring.

My assistant Blair Lowery's panicked voice came through the speaker, "Wendy, Yelena altered your antidote formula without permission! She's about to give it to the poisoned guards!"

My brows furrowed. "The team was ambushed by Rogues and infected with wolfsbane during the last mission. Most of the toxin is already flushed out. All they need is the final standard dose to clear the rest. There's zero reason to tamper with the formula."

Blair replied, "I know! But… Yelena claims her new formula speeds up recovery! I tried stopping her, telling her it's untested and dangerous, but she won't listen. Even… Even Captain Fulton is backing her up!"

She was on the verge of tears. "Yelena is already preparing the doses! Wendy, please, you have to come back right now!"

Jacob stood in the empty room, completely dazed. He refused to believe I had left.In his eyes, I had no family, no backing, and nowhere else to go in this world except by his side. How could an escort team possibly come all this way just to pick me up?Besides, for all these years, my entire world had revolved around him. I had always been the one chasing after him.Jacob was convinced I loved him, relied on him, and that even if we fought, I was only acting out. I would never actually leave. At that thought, he rubbed his tired temples and dragged his heavy feet toward my bedroom.Pushing the bedroom door open, Jacob instinctively walked over to the wardrobe and pulled the doors open.It was completely bare—not a single piece of my once tightly packed clothing remained.Jacob's chest tightened. A wave of panic and unease washed over him.Refusing to accept it, he carefully searched every single corner of the room, obsessively looking for any tiny trace I might have left behi

A few days later, after his external wounds healed, Jacob returned to the patrol team as scheduled to resume his duties.Yet, during his very first patrol, he immediately sensed that something was deeply wrong. In the past, with just a single thought, his wolf would instantly respond, flooding him with raw power and battle readiness.Today, no matter how many times he tried to awaken it, there was only dead silence deep inside his body. His wolf didn't react at all, as if it had vanished into thin air.Panic surged through him instantly. Unable to focus on anything else, Jacob rushed straight to the pack clinic for an emergency checkup. When the final diagnosis was handed to him, Jacob went completely still, as if struck by lightning. The healer looked at him and said seriously, "Captain Fulton, your wolf is completely destroyed. You will never be able to shift or fight again."Those few short words stabbed right into Jacob's heart like a serrated blade. He was the strongest p

Suffocating rage spread wildly through the pack clinic. The wounded guards were boiling with hatred. They had ended up as useless Omegas, all because Yelena took it upon herself to tamper with the antidote formula. The guards struggled to their feet one after another, determined to confront Yelena and demand justice.Inside the treatment room, facing the tidal wave of public condemnation, Yelena didn't panic in the slightest. With red-rimmed eyes, she put on a picture of complete innocence and sobbed. "I admit that the potion I mixed might have had some unforeseen risks."She pivoted instantly, her voice dripping with sheer victimhood. "But my only intention was to find a faster way for everyone to heal."As she raised her tear-stained face, her voice trembled softly. "I know all of you hate me, and I'm consumed with guilt. But Ms. Conner taught me the foundational formula for that potion."I merely made minor tweaks based on the principles she passed down. I just want everyone

The moment I left, the guards who had downed the potion began feeling its effects almost instantly.Callan, the first to drink, let out a long breath as a look of pleasant surprise washed over his face. "The poison inside me… feels totally gone! My body feels so light all of a sudden!"He stretched his shoulders and let out an amazed gasp. "It really doesn't hurt at all anymore. Yelena, your potion is mind-blowing!"The rest of the guards were overjoyed, swarming around Yelena and showering her with praise."Yelena, you're incredible! Your modified formula works ten times better than the old one!""You've got real talent! This antidote kicked in instantly!""Wendy's formula was way too conservative. The results were painfully slow. She can't hold a candle to you."Yelena stood in the middle of the crowd, putting on a coy act while barely hiding the smugness in her eyes. "I just wanted to help everyone recover faster, that's all.""Yelena, don't be so modest!" Callan shouted. "W

  • I'm the Alpha Female Now   Chapter 3

By the time I rushed back to the patrol station, I could hear the team's excited chatter from down the hall."Yelena, you're incredible! I can't believe you whipped up a brand-new antidote so fast.""With you backing us up, we're definitely in safer hands from now on."Yelena stood right in the center of the crowd holding the vials with a modest smile on her lips. "Ms. Conner did a great job before, but I just wanted to take some weight off her shoulders."Blair was shoved into a corner, tear tracks still visible on her cheeks. She'd clearly suffered a great deal.Spotting me first, she jogged over and hurriedly handed me one of the vials. "Wendy, Captain Fulton already convinced everyone to switch to Yelena's new formula. They all think she's way more gifted than you."It only took one glance for me to spot something terribly wrong. The liquid was much darker than the standard antidote, and the sharp, familiar herbal scent made my brow furrow tightly. "This contains frostleaf."
