Julissa suddenly recalled how things were when she was with Liam. Since childhood, she would never let him see her without washing her face first. Whenever he came over to help her with homework, she’d put on her prettiest dress and chew gum for fresh breath.

Even up until the day they broke up, she never dared burp in front of him—too embarrassed.

Though they’d grown up together and knew each other well, there was always a subtle distance between them.

Not all childhood sweethearts are like this, of course—just her and Liam never truly got close.

Thinking of Liam reminded her of the dress Mrs. Zamora had gifted her.

She let go of Scott’s waist and dashed out to the living room, checking around, then searched by the entrance.

While she was rummaging around, Scott plated the fried eggs and began heating milk in a small pot. Half of him leaned out of the kitchen.

"What are you looking for?"

"Mr. Nichols, did you bring back the box I left in the car?"

He shrugged. "Had my hands full with

Since both Julissa and Scott had given their respective parents a heads-up before dinner, the conversation about the wedding naturally avoided the topic of the bride price. With that potential tension diffused, the emotional distance between the two families shrank considerably, as if they had already become one big, close-knit family.Still, Scott’s father made a point to express his stance. He said that the time and location of the wedding would fully respect the wishes of the two kids, and he would do his utmost to make the event perfect. If the in-laws had any requests, they could relay them directly to Scott.Julissa’s father also echoed this sentiment, saying he and Julissa’s mother would fully support whatever the two children decided. And just like that, what had initially made Julissa so nervous turned out to be a peaceful, smooth, and successful meeting. After dinner, Scott took responsibility for driving Julissa’s parents home. Then he and Julissa would head back to his apa

Audrey understood that she couldn’t blame her son for misunderstanding her. After all, over the years, every time she and James met, it always ended in an argument. And each time, it was her bad attitude that sparked the fight. She reassured Scott not to worry—she knew her limits and wouldn't make things awkward for him. After a brief chat, Scott ended the call. Audrey felt a little down.Clearly, regaining her son’s trust wasn’t something that could be done overnight. She sighed softly and handed the phone back to James.“What did Scott say?” James asked as he took the phone.Audrey gave him a glance. “Told us not to argue. He doesn’t want his in-laws to laugh at him.”James burst into laughter and turned to Julian, who had been glued to his phone. “I’ve never seen your brother care about someone this much.”Still staring at his screen and playing a game, Julian replied without looking up, “He finally found a girl who can tolerate him. Of course he has to cherish her.”Audrey immedia

After lunch, Julissa took a break in her office and decided to call Mrs. Zamora. She asked how Mrs. Zamora had been doing and said she was planning to visit the hospital on Sunday during her day off. But on the phone, Mrs. Zamora insisted she was feeling well and told Julissa not to bother—she should rest at home on her day off. From the sound of her voice, Julissa could tell Mrs. Zamora was in decent spirits. Since she wanted peace and quiet to recover, Julissa didn’t insist.Sunday was already packed anyway—she needed to check out the two other dresses she’d wear for the wedding: the tea ceremony dress and the traditional xiuhe dress.Knowing how busy the couple was, Scott’s mother had taken the initiative to narrow down the dress options for Julissa. She picked out a few styles, and all Julissa had to do was choose the final ones.Scott’s mother didn’t contact Julissa directly—everything went through Scott. Even though their relationship still felt a little distant, Julissa apprec

Julissa didn’t knock. She keyed in the code, quietly opened the office door, and tiptoed inside.Thank goodness the floor was carpeted—her steps were nearly silent. She crept further into the room, past the small entryway, then hid behind a wall, peeking around at Scott working behind his desk, head down and focused. A sigh of disbelief escaped her lips.Life really is unpredictable. This incredible man… was now her husband. And it wasn’t even just about the money—his looks alone could keep her swooning for a lifetime. She was still in a daze when Scott suddenly said, “Come help me pick a restaurant.”Julissa froze, thinking someone else was in the room. She looked around quickly. But then Scott looked up and stared straight at her. “I’m talking to you.”“…You caught me,” she laughed sheepishly and stepped out from behind the wall, walking over to him.He patted the space next to him. “Come here.”Obediently, Julissa walked around the desk and stood beside him.The next thing she knew

Scott’s magnanimity and tolerance came from knowing what needed to be done—but that didn’t mean his heart was completely calm. When Julissa was going to take care of her ex’s mother every day, he understood and supported her. He knew Mrs. Zamora was like family to Julissa, having watched her grow up from a young age.But every time he thought of Julissa playing the role of someone else’s daughter-in-law, Scott couldn’t help but feel a wave of sourness in his chest. For several days, his work efficiency plummeted, and he carried around a simmering, inexplicable anger...“Are you still jealous now?” Julissa asked with a smile.Seeing her so happy, Scott let out a small hiss. “You’re this happy just because I’m jealous?”Julissa nodded eagerly. She said that a few days ago, when he acted so understanding and didn’t show a trace of jealousy, she almost started to wonder if he didn’t care about her anymore. So when she figured out that all his convoluted lies were just to make sure she wor

“Is that so.”Scott said calmly as he turned her phone screen around. Julissa immediately reached out to snatch it back, but he caught both her wrists with his other hand. And just like that, he openly and unapologetically read her chat with another man—right in front of her.Knowing she couldn’t stop him, Julissa said, “He’s really just joking…”Scott read the messages. After Julissa said they hadn’t set a wedding date yet, Lucas had replied:[Let me know once it’s set. I’ll crash the wedding.]To which Julissa had laughed and said:[Then my dear Mr. Nichols better feel a sense of crisis.]Lucas replied:[He should feel a crisis, because I’m serious.]Julissa hadn’t replied yet, but Lucas had followed up with:[You know I’m serious.]That was when Scott noticed something was off—and saw the whole conversation.Julissa hurried to explain, “He’s just joking, really. That’s how he is—always joking.”Scott didn’t say anything. Right in front of her, he decisively blocked Lucas’s social m
