IN LOVE WITH MR RIVAL

Ahh… sonya.

She’s so pretty it almost hurts to look at her.

 Sometimes I imagine she’ll suddenly sprout wings and ascend to heaven, the angel she truly is.

“Hey Percy”

 I can already see them wings twinkling like Tinkerbell’s, flapping gracefully as her smile outshines the sun…

“Percy?!”

‎Holy Mary. Even her voice is angelic. She’s calling me to ascend with her… I will just…

‎”PERCY!!!”

‎ “hm?” I snapped out of my thoughts to see Travis seating on my desk looking at me with a hint of annoyance… what was he saying again?

‎”jeez, man. Where did you drift off to this time?”

“Sorry, Travis,” I muttered. “My mind slipped away for a moment.”

“A moment? You do this all the damn time.” He squinted at me. “So… what were you thinking about?”

I lowered my gaze, my voice soft. “Sonya.”

“Aha! Thought so?‎ bro you’ve been dating her for 5years and you still daydream about her?” he asked looking like he’s disappointed seeing me blush like a girl.

‎ “you can’t understand bro” I said as I stood up to pack my books in my bag getting ready to leave the class.

‎ “are you fuckin’ kidding me?! What do mean by can’t understand?!” he snapped and stood up.

‎ “well, am not totally wrong you know, you’ve never had a girlfriend ”

“That true. buh , you don’t really have to date girls to understand them” he confidently replied.

“Sigh… I meant you lack field experience dude”.. he’s always like that, he thinks he’s popular and all that.

‎ “Am heading out, see you tomorrow” I patted his shoulders as I gave him the best smile I could offer him at that moment and walked away.

‎”Hey! dude where you off to?! Wait for me”

‎ I have a date with Sonya I can’t afford to mess up because of this dimwit. I remember how he made me her stood up in grade 11th I can let that happen again.

‎ “Percy, we have an evening lesson.” He said as he finally caught up with me.

‎”Oh.. Prof. Evans? He rescheduled for next Week Friday”

‎” Really?! That’s weird how come I didn’t notice in the class forum?” he started fumbling his pockets for his cellphone.

‎”Yeah, check your unreads… He did it to give time to those like you, who hasn’t turned in their previous assignment” I said mockingly.

‎”Oh shit… I haven’t done mine”

‎”hahaha…. Reality hits hard doesn’t it?”

‎ he glared at me as he playfully lunged at my shoulder which I successfully evaded while still laughing.

‎”Ur having fun aren’t you?”

‎”Kinda, well see you later bro, gotta run.”

‎I said as a hurriedly ran off to catch a taxi

‎I gotta hurry home and freshen up, get a change of clothes and head straight to Sonya.

       I hailed the first cab I saw and heading straight for my dorm.

By the time I hopped into one, it was a bit dark. I needed to hurry ,shower, change, and get to get to Sonya but…

What’s with this taxi driver?

 He keeps stealing glances at me

Which is certainly making me uncomfortable.

“Hello sir, is there any problem?” I ask him.

“Oh? Ohh no, no problem…” he answered. But I knew he wanted to say something since he continued his ogling from the driving seat, I’m kinda scared now cos if this man doesn’t keep his focus on the road, we might end up in the hospital.

“Uhh” I sighed and rolled my eyes. what’s his deal seriously?

“Sir do you recognize me from somewhere?”

“No I don’t, it’s just that when you first stopped me I thought you where a girl…”

Not this again.

“So you don’t serve men?” I asked although I knew what he meant.

“He chuckled nervously. “No, not that. Forgive me it’s just… you look very pretty for a boy.”

“If I was a girl I would have said ‘thank you’ but am not and I don’t want to accept that kind of compliment” I replied coldly, immediately not hiding my discomfort about the idea of a grown man staring at me like that.

It’s disgusting.

“forgive me sir, I never meant it that way, I was just…”

“Its okay. I get that a lot.”

He muttered another apology. I sighed and leaned back. what’s the point of taking it out on an innocent taxi man it still won’t change the way I look .

 skinny , smooth and pale looking skin, average height and a round face, isn’t what a man should look like.

When I was in 6th grade, I got mistaken for a girl and join the girls skipping team for P.E

“Percy Claude , why are you in the girls team?” I can still recall my Class teacher's voice clearly as she scolded me after she found out I was a boy.

She was the one who brought me to the girls court herself, so I was speechless and confused. Ever since then the boys in my class made fun of me and called me a girl and that’s how I ended up getting bullied by the so called 'big boys’ in middle school until I met Travis.

Travis bane.

My closest friend. It was because of him I wasn’t bullied anymore.

 we became friends after he got into a fight with the bullies all because of me and ended up getting involved with the bullies so we would stick together Incase they came for us after school.

  That how we ended up stuck together for life.

From Middle school till high school then college. Pretty touching right? But he still sucks like hell, a real hot head , never early to school, always in trouble and all that ,he’s just one hell of a case.

Meanwhile I met Sonya in high school .

She was transferred to our student. When she walked into our class in 10th grade wellspring high. At first, I thought I was the only one who could see her then she suddenly spoke

“Hi everyone I’m Sonya Donald.”

That melodious voice has been stuck in my mind ever since then.
