Asa

The distinct click of the heavy office door locking behind him echoes through the room. I don't even notice Kirill move until his tall frame is towering over me, that dark, unhinged smirk of his sending adrenaline flooding through my entire body.

He brushes his knuckles along my face. His touch makes my body feel all sorts of things I don't want to name. I push his hand off.

"Touch me again and I will fucking kill you."

He chuckles, the sound deep and gravelly, making my traitorous body warm and fucking fuzzy. Stupid Omega biology.

"Well, your little defiance will only make this hotter, baby."

"I'm not your baby."

"Then what are you doing in my office at night if you didn't come to see me?" I turn my eyes to the side, my ears burning with embarrassment, and I don't answer because I'm sure he already knows the answer to that.

"You still haven't told me what you're doing here, anyway."

"Well, to find information to ruin you, of course."

A low chuckle escapes him.

"You don't have to act like a little thief, you know. All you had to do was ask."

He reaches into his pocket and tosses a small ring of keys onto the desk which I assume are for the locked drawer. They land between us with a metallic clink.

"Go on."

I frown at the keys.

Well... there can't be anything important in there if he's willingly giving them to me. Which means whatever I'm looking for isn't in that drawer. I'll have to find another way.

"Who are you exactly?" I ask instead. "I looked into you, and there isn't a single record of a hockey legend named Kirill Roman."

His smirk deepens.

"Interesting."

He folds his arms across his chest, studying me as though I've just confirmed something he'd already suspected.

"So you've spent the last two days investigating me."

I refuse to answer.

He doesn't seem to care.

"If you're looking for my coaching files, they're in the second drawer." He nods towards the desk. "Go ahead. See how hockey is actually played—not the little show you and your friends put on out there."

His confidence makes my stomach twist.

Either the drawer contains exactly what he says it does...

...or he's already made sure I'll never find what I'm really looking for.

For a long moment, neither of us moves.

It feels less like he's caught me breaking into his office...

...and more like he's been waiting for me to walk into it.

"Now back to where we were, baby."

"I said don't fucking call me that."

"It's okay if you don't let me call you baby. We don't need pet names when we're doing this, right?" He says it while getting so close we're practically breathing each other's air.

"You get your dick anywhere near me again and I will fucking cut it off." I try to sound as threatening and frightening as I can, though I don't think he gets the message, seeing as he's smiling now—a real, genuine smile, not the usual smirks he gives me. The smile distracts me for a moment, and he gets the chance to pick me up and set me on the table before positioning himself between my legs and placing his hands on my waist.

He looks at me, then at the bulge in his pants. "Your dirty talk is making me so hard, malen'kiy volk." He says it with that smirk back in place, the Russian heavy on the last word. Perv.

"Well, too bad. You're gonna have to find another way to deal with your little problem, because you won't be fucking me. Ever."

"Never say never, malen'kiy volk."

"I'm saying never. And the day I allow you to get this close to me again, I will change my last fucking name." I say it using all my will to push off the table and shove him away from me.

He stumbles back. "To what, exactly? Malen'kiy volk Roman?" My face heats and I want to punch this fucking idiot.

"Well, I like that idea, but you know what I like more? That sweet sc—"

He doesn't finish that sentence as I throw a punch at his jaw so hard my hand aches, but the asshole doesn't even flinch. How dare he. This man is evoking emotions and reactions I swore no Alpha would ever evoke in me. Maybe I should forget the revenge and just stay the fuck away from him.

As if reading my thoughts, Kirill pulls me to him and whispers in my ear. "You are the one who started this little game, so don't even think about running away. I don't mind flipping the fucking earth upside down just to find you."

I give him a hard kick to the groin before bolting for the door. Behind me, I can hear his sound of pain and an unhinged laughter that makes my spine prickle. What the fuck have I gotten myself into? Or more like, what have Hunter and his fucking drink gotten me into?

I don't hear half of what the professor says. My mind is still trapped inside Kirill's office. Come to think of it, I hadn't even gotten the chance to look at the drawer—the one that, unlike the others, he always locks. Or was that just another trap? Because he seemed to know I was looking into him.

"Grey."

I look up.

"Are you even listening?"

"Sorry."

The lecture continues, but Hunter leans over from the next seat.

"My old man is losing his mind," he mutters. "Some asshole just pulled a multi-million-dollar contract from the company. He's convinced someone's coming after us."

I shrug. "Sounds rough."

It isn't that I lack sympathy. I just can't find any. Not when Coach Kirill Roman has just made it painfully clear he can destroy my life with a single sentence. So I couldn't care less. I have my own shit to deal with. I even skipped the morning meeting with the team because I didn't want to see his face. Even now, after class, I'll head straight home, because there's no knowing what that psychopath could be up to. So I won't be returning to my dorm room until further notice. And don't get me wrong—this isn't running away. It's just retreating until I have a solid plan to take down the man who seems able to get into my mind and body and remove all traces of my suppressants without even trying.

So I need to stay away from him. And luck seems to be on my side, since the weekend is coming and I can go three days without seeing that prick.

That is, until a notification chimes and a message from an unknown number pops up.

Are you avoiding me, malen'kiy volk?

AsaWhy I'm here, even I don't know. But one thing I do know is that Kirill has some answering to do. Whether I get those answers from his corpse or from his actual mouth, I'm still not entirely certain. The sheer, toxic restlessness rolling through my veins has driven me straight back to his electronic keypad, my fingers punching in his passcode from memory before my brain can even stop me.The lock clicks, and the heavy door swings inward.I step inside, only to find Kirill already standing by the kitchen island, slowly sipping a glass of water. A single dark towel is looped loosely around his hips, the water from his recent shower still glistening against the broad, tatted planes of his bare chest. Well, too bad for catching him off guard. The bastard looks completely unfazed, his steel-grey eyes tracking my entry into the dark apartment with a maddening level of calm."You should give up your hockey dream and become a professional breaking-and-entering thief," Kirill murmurs, his

Kirill "So is the business you came across the ocean for finished, or are you going to keep freezing your ass off in this country?" Mikhail's voice breaks the quiet of the corridor as we step away from the team benches. He has his Titans helmet tucked under his arm, his dark hair damp with sweat. "No," I reply flatly, my eyes fixed straight ahead. "It is not finished yet, but im getting there." Mikhail lets out a sharp breath, his skates clattering against the rubber mats. "Then what the fuck are you actually doing here, Kirill? Acting like a university coach? Running drills for a bunch of pampered brats? It doesn't make sense, uncle." My jaw clenches, but I force myself to stop at the corner of the staff hallway and turn toward him. I reach out and ruffle his damp hair, my grip firm enough to make his jaw lock. "Do not get involved in things you do not need to know, Mikhail. Focus on your own lines." "Yeah, whatever," Mikhail mutters, shoving my hand away as he fixes hi

AsaBy 6:30 PM, the university rink is an absolute wall of sound. Today is match day.The roar of the home crowd rattles the heavy plexiglass boards, thousands of fans screaming, stamping their feet, and waving banners. The championship qualifying season is officially over, and the energy of the first conference league match is electric. Oh, how I've missed this. The cold bite of the shaved ice, the smell of rubber, the raw adrenaline of the ice rink—it's the only place I feel like myself. But the atmosphere inside our locker room is dead silent.Coach stands at the front of the room, dressed in his tailored track jacket, his eyes cold and completely unreadable. The white bandage on his temple is gone, leaving a thin, dangerous silver scar. And the sight of that scar makes me want to high-five myself. He delivers his final tactical speech with a flat tone, but right before we head down the tunnel, he snaps his clipboard shut."Kale, warm up," Kirill commands, his voice quiet but absol

Asa I find Toby alone in the dim, empty corner of the library, even though I'm about fifteen minutes late. The heavy silence of the building feels thick, suffocating the frantic racing of my mind. "Okay, what's with the mysterious text?" I ask, dropping into the mahogany chair across from him, my voice a harsh whisper. He smiles, a playful glimmer in his eyes that I completely lack. "Well, we are hiring a PI, like mystery style, so I wanted to give off the vibe, you know?" "First of all, it's me, not we," I shoot back, keeping my posture rigid. "I don't want you involved in this. Second, there's nothing mysterious or FBI-y about this. And thirdly... where is this person of yours?" Toby looks thoroughly offended for a minute, crossing his arms over his chest. He checks his watch, letting out a sharp sigh. "He was supposed to be here by now." He pulls out his phone, his thumbs tapping aggressively against the glass. "Who do you want to investigate anyways?" he asks, not looking u

  • Ice And Blood: The Coach's Secret Omega    Chapter 15: The PI

Asa I wake up to a heavy arm wrapped around my waist like a fucking anaconda. Yesterday's events crash into me all at once—the suicide drills from hell, the club, those two Alphas in the restroom, the feel of Kirill's hands on my skin, and whatever the fuck that was on his mattress. My body aches everywhere. But that's not the worst part. The worst part is the smell. The bedroom reeks of me. My real scent. Sweet cream and crushed mint, completely unmasked and peaking like I'm about to drop into heat right here on his sheets. I haven't taken my blockers since midday yesterday, and my body has fully given up the fight. Shit. It's late. I have class. I try to slide out of bed, but the arm around my waist tightens and drags me right back against a bare, burning chest. "Where do you think you're going?" Kirill's voice is a sleep-rough growl against the back of my neck. "Class. Let go." He doesn't let go. His grip tightens, his breath hot against the bite mark he left on my neck,

  • Ice And Blood: The Coach's Secret Omega    Chapter 14: Don't call me Grey

KirillI don't have it in me to wake him. Instead, I gently lift him in my arms and carry him inside. He looks peaceful like this, and I forget for a moment that he is the devil's spawn and an absolute menace when awake. This is the look he should have. Not the one I saw in that small bathroom. The look on his face today made me see fucking red. He was completely stuck in his own head, as if reliving a painful memory, and I think he was. Something happened to him in his past, and I need to find out exactly what. His fierce restraints toward Alphas and his—I don't know whether to say hate toward his own biology or what—finally make sense. And today I realized that it is not just seeing him bleed that I hate, but also seeing him in that helpless state. I never want to see that look on his face again. And the person who put it there should never see the sunrise again. The moment I lay him down on the mattress, I quickly take my phone and text Sam: Find the two from the restroom. Deal wit
