Chapter 2

Author: Gathering Clouds
Marcus continued, "Besides, we still need to prepare a lot of things for the baby. With Vivian around, you can take it easy during your pregnancy. You don't have to worry too much, right?"

Rachel pouted before glaring at me. Then, she forced herself to reply, "Fine. You can stay at the Miller residence for now. You still can't ride in his car, so just hail a cab!"

He pursed his lips and seemed conflicted. He looked at me helplessly. "Vivian…"

There he went again. It was as if whatever Rachel said was final.

For the past nine months, no matter how outrageous Rachel's demands were, Marcus always wanted me to compromise.

Today, I couldn't even get into his car. I merely smiled and stepped back, saying calmly, "I'll take a cab home."

Rachel got into the passenger's seat, looking very proud of herself.

Marcus sneakily held my hand and looked at me guiltily. "Rachel's just too anxious during her pregnancy. We must be more considerate of her.

"After all, she's pregnant with Barry's only child. I really don't want anything to happen to her. Babe, you've really suffered. Once Rachel has given birth, we'll marry immediately and never separate again. I swear on it!"

Before I could even respond, she exclaimed furiously, "Marcus!"

He quickly pulled away as if he had been electrocuted. Then, he hurriedly got into the car.

From the start, I always remained silent. As I watched Marcus' car disappear into the distance, I began to feel calmer.

We divorced for the first time because Marcus and I wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We watched a movie outside and didn't let Rachel come along.

It happened again the second time because her gold bangle was missing.

The third time, it was because she dreamed of Barry.

As for the fourth and the fifth… Well, the reason became more outrageous than ever each time, yet Marcus fell for it.

Over the past few months, I tried to talk things out with Marcus. I even tried to throw a tantrum the way Rachel did.

However, whenever I threw a tantrum, he only looked at me with indifference. Then, he gave me all kinds of luxury-branded bags before holding my hand and speaking gently.

"Vivian, I won't blame you for being inconsiderate, but you need to understand that we must prioritize Rachel now.

"I have no choice but to let you suffer for now. I swear that I won't ever let Rachel have her own way once the baby's born. We'll live a good life together. Just put up with this for a while longer, okay?"

Marcus had sworn too many times. His promises sounded cheap now.

I no longer had the strength to cope with it anymore. Taking a deep breath, I reached for my phone to make a call.

I only needed to wait a second before Grandpa answered the call. His kind voice drifted through the phone. "My precious granddaughter! Missed me?"

My eyes reddened instantly. I did my best to keep my voice from breaking. "Grandpa, Marcus and I have divorced. Could you get someone to pick me up tomorrow?

"Also, cancel all the collaborations our family has with Marcus. I want to break things off with him completely."

Grandpa was shocked. After all, he knew I loved Marcus very much.

I wanted to marry Marcus, whose family wasn't as wealthy as mine. Grandpa did his best to talk me out of my decision, but I still married Marcus.

Grandpa could only help him in secret as a result.

Although Marcus' career was booming, our marriage came to an end. Grandpa was happy about the divorce, but he was also upset, knowing that I must have suffered a lot.

"My dear Vivian, I'll come and pick you up tomorrow."

Half an hour later, I finally reached home. As soon as I entered, I noticed that the living room was packed with my clothes. They were strewn all over the floor. Clearly, someone had tossed them out right away.

My heart lurched as I walked toward the walk-in wardrobe. From far away, I could hear Marcus and Rachel giggling inside.

"Marcus, not only do I plan on buying lots of clothes for the baby, but I also want to get a variety of shoes. Let's throw Vivian's shoes out, shall we?"

Marcus remarked. "Just buy them. Buy whatever you like. As long as you're happy, you can put Vivian's things wherever you like. It's up to you."

He sounded doting and gentle.

I silently pushed open the door. What used to be my walk-in wardrobe was now cluttered with things for the baby.

Marcus lay in Rachel's arms and forced a smile. "Rachel…"Rachel wiped her tears away before declaring fiercely. "Nothing will happen to you!""Rachel… You always considered me as Barry's replacement, so you kept interfering with my life. Barry's gone, so taking care of you and the baby became my responsibility. But I can't let you harm Vivian… It's all my fault. I understood everything too late…"I stood not far away as I met Marcus' gaze with a conflicted expression. Meanwhile, Anthony pulled me into his embrace and comforted me gently. "Don't worry. The ambulance and police will be here very soon."…Three minutes later, the ambulance arrived to take Marcus to the hospital. As for the two men lying on the ground, they were declared dead before the doctors could even tend to them.As for Rachel, she was taken to the police station on the account of murder. Since Anthony and I were witnesses, we headed there as well.Based on our statements and the cafe's surveillance footage,

"Prepare a summary first. Let me see how much you still remember from your lessons."I chuckled a few times before quickly taking a seat opposite Anthony. However, before I could flip open the documents, someone grabbed my wrist tightly. "Vivian, is he the reason you refuse to forgive me? Are you having an affair with another man?"It was none other than Marcus. His arms and legs were covered in bruises. He probably fell several times while climbing the stairs last night. Right now, his gaze toward me was filled with rage. I shook his hand off before slapping him, saying, "Stop talking nonsense! Don't forget that we were already divorced long ago!"Marcus covered his cheek as he came to his senses. His gaze was filled with disbelief. "Vivian! I never ever thought you'd become like this, but that's okay."He took a few deep breaths to calm down before continuing, "Just listen to what I've to say. Seeing you near other men just makes me feel like I'm about to go nuts."I was wro

"Marcus, I'm disgusted to see you now!" As soon as I said that, Marcus actually tugged at my hand and looked at me pleadingly with bloodshot eyes. He spoke hoarsely. "I'm sorry, Vivian. It's probably because Rachel's pregnant with my late brother's baby. "That's why I paid more attention to her and ended up neglecting your feelings. It was my fault. I know that now."But I'm really at my wits' end. The company doesn't have enough cash to turn things around. If we don't have the investment, I'm completely done for. "I can't accept a world where I lose everything, nor can I accept a future without you… Vivian, I really love you…""Love me?" I repeated in disbelief before chuckling to myself. "Alright! Since you love me, you must make it up to me."Arrive at the shrine before 6:00 am, and I'll consider what you just said. 100 steps, okay? Remember not to skip any steps.""Sure! Alright! As long as this makes you feel better, I'll go." Marcus got up in a panic. He looked at me me

"Vivian, hear me out, please? I know I was wrong for rearranging your walk-in wardrobe without your permission. But Rachel's pregnant now. Shouldn't you prioritize her in everything?"Thanks to your stubbornness, the company lost a significant investment. But that's fine. I'll forgive you if you convince your grandfather to continue the collaboration with me."Before I could even give Marcus a piece of my mind, he sent me another text. "I'm at your house. Let's talk for a bit."How did Marcus find this place?A few seconds later, I turned off my screen and headed downstairs. After all, I would feel better if I could tell Marcus off in person. As soon as I opened the front door, I noticed him crouching next to a tree. He instantly looked up at the sound of the door, and his eyes lit up. "Vivian!" He jogged toward me and grabbed my hand. "I knew you loved me too much to even abandon me."I didn't break free of his grip. I wanted to see how thick-skinned he could get. "Hear me

Grandpa wiped the tears away from my cheeks. Then, he followed my line of sight and finally stared at Marcus. He immediately lost his temper and banged his cane against the floor. "It's indeed time for me to withdraw my investment. How could you bully my granddaughter?"Back then, Vivian liked you so much that she was willing to endure hardships. She was willing to stay by your side as you built your business from scratch. "She didn't want to bruise your ego, so she purposely begged me to give you a chance to collaborate. If she hadn't spoken up for you, did you think I would even consider a small company like yours?"Upon hearing Grandpa, Marcus panicked but asked with a wry smile, "Mr. Perry, could you be mistaken?"Next to Marcus was Rachel, who burst out laughing before looking at Grandpa smugly. "We don't need to ingratiate ourselves with you. Marcus is a brilliant man. He's recognized as the most promising young chairman. "You're already so old, but Marcus is only in his

After saying all that, Marcus slammed the kitchen door hard. I looked at my bruised knees and the grip marks on my wrist. Rachel gripped my wrist so hard that I had to shake her off. However, I hadn't used much strength, which made it odd that she had fallen.Getting up on my feet, I tried to open the door. I realized that Marcus had locked the kitchen door. I was instantly in a daze. Then, I couldn't stop myself from crying, not from sadness but from regret.I regretted giving up everything to marry Marcus. I regretted staying by his side as he built his business from scratch and endured all the hardships together. However, he chose to hurt me over and over again for Rachel. Grandpa was right—Marcus wasn't a worthy husband.…I was locked in the kitchen for two hours. Since my phone was outside, I had no way of calling for help. I could only remain inside and suffer.Eventually, I heard Marcus and Rachel giggling and shouting playfully at each other. A few minutes later, M
