She sat on her prayer mat, hands raised in silent supplication, her mind whirling around different steps that she could have taken to avoid such an altercation.

Why did she ever think she could do it? Marriage? How could he think that she was ready to marry him? What had she ever done to make him think that she wanted to marry him?

Surely a few outings couldn't be counted as prerequisite to marriage or could they?
