Chapter 4 No More Pretending

Dorothy looked at Jean and said firmly, "Jean is asleep now. Tyler, Joyce mentioned that she didn't sleep well last night and isn't feeling too good. You should bring her home. You can visit Jean next time."

Dorothy looked nervous. She gave Jean a warning look, hoping she would follow her lead.

Tyler raised an eyebrow and looked at Jean. "You're not feeling good?"

When she heard his question, Jean looked up at him. She saw no concern in his eyes at all, only mocking.

Before she could reply, Dorothy said, "She said she had a headache. Take her home and let her rest."

Tyler laughed. He looked away from Jean and said, "Since Joyce isn't feeling well, I'll take her home."

Tyler's arm was still firmly around Jean, and he had a concerned look on his face. It made Dorothy feel uneasy. She wasn't sure if she should be happy or worried about it.

Dorothy gave a small, tense nod. Then, she watched as Tyler pulled Jean away. Once they disappeared from her sight, she took a deep breath and turned back into the ward.

As soon as she opened the door, she saw Joyce in a wheelchair. Timothy, Joyce's father, was standing silently behind her.

Dorothy's heart dropped. "Joyce … did you hear everything?" she asked cautiously.

Joyce didn't answer her. The heavy silence hung in the air.

After a long time, Joyce finally spoke.

"It's fine," she said hoarsely. These two words seemed to have taken all her strength to say. Her eyes were red, and tears flowed uncontrollably.

Seeing this, Dorothy crouched in front of her anxiously. She explained, "Don't be angry, Joyce. I did this for a reason. It's the only way to make sure you can still be Tyler's wife."

Joyce stayed silent. She gripped the arms of her wheelchair tightly as her body shook with emotion. She couldn't accept this.

Her twin sister had assumed her identity and married the man she loved. She was now his wife.

Joyce had sacrificed so much to get engaged to him. Yet, Jean had replaced her so easily.

Seeing that Joyce was getting too emotional, Dorothy felt distressed. She hugged her tightly.

"Don't be too angry, Joyce. You'll get Tyler back as soon as you get better. You can have your identity back too. All you need to do is rest well so you can go back to him sooner."

Joyce scoffed, her expression twisted in anger. "Can I really go back to him?"

"Of course," Dorothy said hurriedly. "Jean wouldn't dare to have any feelings for Tyler. She promised to switch back with you as soon as you get better. Over the past three years, she has been living with Tyler under your name. You don't have to worry about her."

Joyce's expression was cold. Something fierce flashed through her eyes.

She would return to Tyler as soon as she was back in health, but she wouldn't allow Jean to be around him any longer.

Outside the hospital, Jean and Tyler walked to the basement parking. Tyler's arm was still around her waist. He looked like the perfect husband with only eyes for her.

However, Jean knew that she wasn't the one Tyler loved.

After walking with his arm around her for a while, she finally couldn't take it any longer. "Let me go."

Tyler heard her but didn't unwrap his arm from around her. Instead, he tightened his embrace. "You seem to have put on a little weight lately," he teased.

As he spoke, he lowered his eyes to Jean's abdomen with a thoughtful expression.
