Chapter 5 Childhood Friends

Jean stiffened, but she regained her composure quickly.

"What's that got to do with you? If you don't like it, just get a …" She trailed off when she remembered that Joyce was now awake.

Now that Joyce was awake, she had no right to decide on the divorce.

Tyler's gaze darkened. He tightened his grip on her waist, almost squeezing her stomach.

Jean's expression twisted in pain and shock. She resisted the urge to protect her stomach. "What's up with you now?" she asked, displeased.

Tyler sneered. "Something is up with you. Your sister's just woken up, and you're trying to divorce me? Aren't you afraid that I might cut off your family's source of income and ruin your father's company?"

His face was calm, but his words were cruel and cold. "The Michaelses owe their success to me. Here in Henkel, all I need to do is move a finger, and your family will be ruined. You will never get away from me."

His voice was like a bucket of cold water thrown over Jean. It chilled her to the bone.

Jean took a deep breath and fought to keep control of her emotions. She knew that there was no use fighting Tyler. Suppressing her panic, she tried to calm herself.

Joyce was now awake. It was the best-case scenario for Jean. Once they switched their identities back, she would have her chance to escape.

Jean fell silent. She seemed to have lost all the fight in her. Sensing this, Tyler glanced at her coldly.

Jean went over to Tyler's car and got in.

Tyler received a sudden phone call and left. When she saw him leaving in a hurry, Jean breathed a sigh of relief. She got out of the car again.

As soon as she did, a red Ferrari entered the parking lot. Its bright headlamps shone right into her eyes, blinding her.

The car stopped in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing the driver.

"Ms. Michaels," the person greeted her.

Jean looked confused, but she stayed calm and stood to a side. She didn't know who this was, but Joyce would.

"I'm Esme. Do you not remember me?"

Esme Page was Tyler's childhood friend.

When Jean first assumed Joyce's identity to marry Tyler, her mother gave her a lot of information about her sister's life. Esme was included in that information.

Jean sighed internally. She schooled her expression as she nodded, "Ms. Page. It's been some time."

Esme smiled when she saw Jean so calm. "Oh, so you do remember! I thought you'd forgotten about me."

Jean pursed her lips. She had never talked to Esme before, so she didn't recognize her on sight. If it were Joyce, she would have recognized her. That was why Jean tried her best to stay calm.

"It's been a long time since we last met, so I wasn't too sure."

Esme got out of her car and gave Jean a calculating look. "You know that Tyler brought home a woman when he went on that business trip to Resovia, right?"

Jean didn't answer.

Esme laughed. She continued lightly, "Tyler's finally found a use for you after letting you leech off him for three years. Although, I don't think you'll be able to remain his wife for long."
