Chapter 6 A Deal

Hearing Esme's mocking tone, Jean realized she and Joyce hadn't gotten along.

Jean raised her head and said, "How do you know that? Even if I won't be his wife for long, at least I was his wife once. What about you? You don't even have the chance, Ms. Page. Isn't that more laughable?"

Esme got angry at her words. She looked like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, with all her hackles up.

"Joyce Michaels! I haven't seen you for three years, but you're as infuriating as ever! It should've been you hurt in that accident, not your sister!"

Jean froze. Her expression shifted into fear.

When the accident happened three years ago, the Michaels family had kept it quiet. This way, Jean could assume Joyce's identity and marry Tyler in her place.

Esme's knowledge about the accident surprised Jean. She grew suspicious. "You … knew my sister?"

Jean had always kept a low profile, even in her own home.

She observed Esme carefully. Esme realized that she had misspoken as well and said, "I heard about it from Tyler."

Jean did not answer.

Seeing her reaction, a victorious gleam crossed Esme's eyes. "Aren't you curious about the woman Tyler is seeing?" she asked lightly.

Jean could tell that she was trying to provoke her. Her expression chilled.

She wasn't Joyce, so she wasn't bothered by Esme's taunts. Her answer was calm and firm.

"I don't interfere in his affairs. No matter who that woman is, she won't be Mrs. Larson."

Esme's expression twisted when she heard what Jean said. She sneered. "That woman is—"

Before she could finish, Jean interrupted her. "I don't care who she is. It has nothing to do with me."

With that said, she walked past Esme, looking indifferent. Before she could get far, someone grabbed her arm. The grip was so strong that it felt as if her arm was about to be ripped off.

Jean frowned in pain.

Tyler's sudden appearance surprised Esme as well. She gasped, "Tyler!"

Jean was stunned. She turned and saw Tyler standing behind her. He grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the elevator. Jean didn't expect that and almost fell.

"Where are you taking me?"

Before Tyler could answer, Esme ran up to them. She asked anxiously, "Has something happened to my sister?"

Jean frowned as she looked at Tyler. So it turned out that the woman he had brought back from abroad was Esme's sister.

Things were getting a little too complicated.

Tyler's eyes were dark, and he had a solemn expression on his face. Jean tried to pull her hand out of his grip, but he only held it tighter. She couldn't free herself.

His warning gaze fell on her. "Don't even think about it."

Jean was stunned.

Soon, the elevator reached the top floor of the hospital.

Tyler pulled Jean out of the elevator roughly. He pushed her toward a doctor. "Take her blood."

Jean resisted immediately. "No!" she shouted as she tried to press the button for the elevator.

Tyler grabbed her and stared at her coldly. "You don't have a choice."
