The weighty accusation from Mrs. Caddel lingered ominously in the atmosphere, reflecting the harsh reality of Camellia’s current situation. Her heart raced, pounding in her chest as if it might explode.

“Mrs. Caddel?” Camellia murmured, her voice barely audible. The name was a painful reminder she had desperately tried to erase from her life.

The woman in black emerged from the limousine, moving stiffly, each step a poignant reminder of her sorrow. Her dark eyes held a harsh intensity as she locked her gaze on Camellia. Once vibrant and full of life, the woman’s features were now marked by deep grief, transforming her into a figure of bitterness.

“Yes… you monster,” Mrs. Caddel spat, her voice low and filled with venom. “You took my son from me; you took my only child and shattered my family.”

Amy quickly intervened, positioning herself between Camellia and the furious woman. “Mrs. Caddel, please. This is neither the time nor the place for this, and besides, Camellia has already serve

“You what?” his father finally asked, voice low, stunned more than angry.“I said I want to be a police officer,” Williams repeated quietly, his eyes steady, his heartbeat anything but.For a few seconds, neither of them spoke. The rain kept falling, soft against the window.Mr. Wyatt leaned back in his chair, exhaling slowly. “You know…” he said, a weary smile ghosting across his face, “for years, that was all I wanted…. for you to wear that uniform. To follow the same path I did.”Williams blinked. “So… you’re not angry?”“Angry?” His father chuckled, but it sounded sad. “No, son. Just surprised. Because I remember the night you said you’d never be like me. You said music was your home, not the system.”Williams lowered his gaze. “Things changed.”“Changed, or someone changed them?” Mr. Wyatt asked gently.Williams didn’t answer.Mr. Wyatt stood and came around the desk, stopping beside him. “Listen, son… I know I pushed that dream on you for too long. But I meant it when I said I w

The next day]The rain hadn’t stopped since morning. It fell in steady sheets, a rhythm he used to hum along to, a rhythm that once became songs. Now, it just sounded like everything he’d lost.Williams sat on the edge of his bed, elbows on his knees, head bowed. The room was dim. Dust clung to the corners. Posters of singers he had idolized stared down at him, silent witnesses to a boy who once believed music could fix the world. He remembered the first time he sang for someone who mattered. His mother had stood in the doorway, arms folded, that quiet smile that always made him feel alive.“You sound just like me,” she had said. “ I used to sing like that….from the heart…. But don’t worry son, I’m rooting hard for you. You’re going to become the biggest artist soon.”Her voice echoed in his memory now, soft and fragile, carrying a warmth that the world had slowly stolen away.He traced the edge of the desk absentmindedly. His guitar lay untouched in the corner, strings gathering dust

Chapter 30That night, Camellia couldn’t sleep. She sat by the window, knees pulled to her chest, staring into the darkness.Something was wrong… she could feel it. Williams’ silence wasn’t just mood. It was distance. For a moment, she thought about calling him. Then decided against it. If he wanted to talk, he would. Her phone buzzed. A message from Liam:“Hey Cami… hope you got home safe… take care and see you tomorrow.”Camellia exhaled. “I need sleep,” she muttered.Williams stood outside his father’s study. The lights were still on, the door slightly open. He hesitated before stepping in.“Williams,” his father greeted, looking up from a stack of papers. “Still up?”“Yeah,” he muttered, eyes scanning the desk until they stopped on a stack of forms…. police academy applications but he couldn’t find that one file….Camellia’s file. “Not your kind of dream, huh?” Mr. Wyatt asked, a half smile on his face.Williams didn’t answer. He only stared.“Take one. Maybe you’ll need it someda

The apartment was quiet when Williams got home.Too quiet. His father’s shoes weren’t by the door, his jacket wasn’t on the hanger. The faint hum of the fridge was the only thing that answered him.He stood there for a moment, the leather folder still in his hand….. the same one Cole had dropped earlier, heavy with names and secrets. He told himself to wait.To leave it alone. To respect boundaries. But curiosity was a disease….. and tonight, it itched under his skin. The name “Camellia” ringed a bell in his head.He sat on the edge of his bed, unbuckled the clasp, and flipped the folder open. The first thing he saw wasn’t a report. It was a face.Camellia’s passport photo stared back at him….. the same eyes, the same quiet defiance that had pulled him in since the first day they met.The world stilled. For a heartbeat, he couldn’t breathe. What the hell…? Her name was printed neatly beneath the picture: Camellia Smith. He flipped through the pages….. arrest records, missing files,

The next few days passed like a quiet song… the kind that lingers long after it ends.Camellia laughed more now. Not much, but enough for Amy to notice.Enough for Williams to want to see it again. They met more often….. sometimes with Amy tagging along, sometimes not. It became a habit neither of them wanted to break. And her bond with Miss Clara grew stronger, too. Clara checked in often, sent her little messages, and sometimes pictures of her son, Liam. One evening, Williams found himself at the café where Camellia had asked him to meet her. The place was nearly empty…. just the soft hum of a refrigerator and a faint jazz tune spilling from an old speaker.Camellia sat near the window, her hair tucked loosely behind her ear. When she saw him, her face lit with that quiet surprise that always melted him.“You’re early,” she teased lightly.“I can’t keep you waiting,” he said, sliding into the chair across from her.She smiled faintly, shaking her head as she reached for her mug. “Yo

Hours later, Williams pulled up at Camellia’s apartment. She had finally agreed to go to the café with him, and he was more than excited to spend time with her. Even though she didn’t say much, he was grateful she was gradually opening up to him…. no matter how little.Inside, Camellia was already dressed and waiting for Amy. She felt lighter today and decided to wear the blue dress Amy had bought her. Her hair was styled neatly. Standing before the mirror, she studied her reflection. It had been a long time since she looked this good.“I guess Miss Clara was right after all,” she murmured.“Amy, are you done?” she called.“Few minutes more, please,” Amy replied from the bathroom.“Come on…” Camellia sighed, sitting on the bed.A few minutes later, Amy stepped out….gorgeous as ever.“Wow,” Camellia breathed, “you look so good.”“Thanks, bae,” Amy said with a grin, and together they rushed out.Outside, Williams stood waiting, dressed simply in a white shirt and light denim jeans, sle
