Chapter 1

Alessia's POV

"DON'T you ever tell anyone that I'm your sister! Got it, freak?!" my older sister, sister Roselle, yelled at me as she rushed to grab her bag to leave the house.

We just moved to the city of Arada. My sister and I have both finished our studies. Sister is currently working in a large textile company. He is a manager there and he earns a lot.

While I will just search. In my twenties, my life took a different turn. I don't know why my sister is so angry with me. As soon as I woke up, that's how my sister treated me. She always calls me a 'freak'.

But maybe it's because I'm different and she knows what's going on with me. She calls me a freak because I am one. I can see things that are not seen by normal people. Grandpa said that I am a psychic because I can see things that ordinary people can't see.

Human beings are not aware that aside from us, other beings are living in this world. They are called demons—but not the demonic beings who kill and hurt humans. Grandpa said that things like that are called demons, those creatures that are not like us.

They are said to be fugitives from the other world where there is a nest of non-humans. Beings that are unique and capable of doing things that a normal human cannot do. Grandpa always said that if I see them I should not look at them, but I will avoid them. He also said that I should not talk to them if someone tries.

I grew up used to seeing people like them. Before, I thought seeing them was okay, that's why I told my older brother. But I was just branded as a freak and crazy. She even accused me of hallucinating and imagining things. She didn't want to believe so I didn't force her, but her view of me didn't change. I will always be the freak she's claiming me to be.

"Yes, Sister," I just answered her and took my sling bag.

I am now wearing a pair of skinny jeans. Grandpa didn't want me to work right away. I also just finished taking the licensure exam and I'm just waiting for the result to see if I passed the Civil Engineer Board Exam.

It was a difficult exam, but I know I was able to answer the questions. I'm just not sure if I passed. I'm also sure that I'm doing something wrong there.

If I fail the exam, I can already see myself being nut-cracked again by my sister. She likes to see me fail and suffer. She never liked me especially if the attention of her lovers or maybe her boyfriend always turned to me. I was branded by her as a slut, even though it wasn't true. I didn't blame anyone who paid attention to me. I never had a boyfriend because of all those who came close to me, my sister was the first to flirt and just moved to me whenever she saw me. Even though I liked someone, I was forced to say no because the trouble would be bigger if I answered.

My sister came out first. She has her car. She saved some money when she could work. I knew that she would not take me with her and I saw that my sister had left and I was left here.

"My granddaughter, just understand your sister," grandpa Sicario taught me while holding the cane that he had always used.

"That's what I always do, Grandpa. I don't know when my sister will be kind to me," I replied sadly to Grandpa. He and my sister are the only families left because we were both orphaned when we were little.

It was such a complex event that I discovered that my sixth sense was turned on. I saw how my parents were eaten by demons. They are not the same as the demons I see that don't hurt people. They are scary and look like monsters.

"Let it go, grandpa. You know that your sister has a world of her own. You will also be happy and get along," grandpa promised me. "But before I forget, grandpa, I won't be able to go home tonight because I'm going to my friend who is in the other city. Go with your sister so you both will come home safely."

I hesitated to nod because I already knew how my sister would react when she saw me at the company she worked for.

"Y-yes, Grandpa," I answered him.

"Besides, it's grandpa, keep it. It's my legacy to you, it's also my gift because you've graduated. Don't lose it and always wear it." Grandpa gave me a necklace with jade in the middle. I know this necklace. It belonged to his grandfather and it was very important to him and he took care of it. My sister wanted it so much that she once asked for it, but grandpa didn't give it to me.

"But Grandpa, I can't accept it. This necklace is too important to you," I protested. It's not that I don't like the necklace, but I'm afraid I might lose it.

"That's really for you, grandpa. Accept it and keep it well," grandpa ordered me and turned his back on me. "Be careful granddaughter."

"Yes, Grandpa." I could do nothing but wear the necklace that my grandfather gave me.

I don't know but why do I feel like grandpa is saying goodbye to me like he's going away? But he was here, so I just ignored it and turned towards the door to leave the house.

I'll just take a taxi because I'm still going to the company for the job interview.

I got out of our gate and the hot weather immediately greeted me. I looked to the side and saw some small demons that looked like rabbits but their ears were shaped like mushrooms.

"She’s here again!" squealed the little demons which made me happy.

I call these demons puns because that's what they said. They have been my friends since then and have followed me to this point.

"You're naughty. This is your food. I'll be home at night, so don't show it to grandpa, okay?" I teach the little ones.

"Yay!" they laughed and argued when I gave them the small slices of cucumber. This is their favorite. If it wasn't for the fact that they looked so strange and could talk, I would have thought they were just ordinary animals. They immediately ate what I gave them.

"Alright, I'm leaving, puns," I said goodbye to them and started walking.

The weather is hot, but I'm not very artistic so this is okay with me. No cabs pass here so I have to wait for the exit. I walked that way because he wasn't that far from the exit.

I didn't see any people walking but a few cars were coming out of the subdivision. I hurried to walk so I could reach the interview.

I reached the exit and immediately took a cab because there was a vacancy and there were also people waiting there. I have delivered to De Gracia Global Holdings. It's a construction company and I have a recorded interview here. They are looking for contractual workers to be assistants to engineers.

I know that there is a high possibility that I will not be accepted because I am still a fresh graduate and the results of the board exam are still not available. There's nothing wrong with trying.

After arriving at De Gracia, I immediately approached the concierge and asked about the interview. I was immediately told that the job interview will be held on the twentieth floor, where the recruitment office is.

I immediately walked to the elevator. I meet many people who look at me. I was smiling at them and I entered the elevator just as it opened just from the top.

I also had people inside and they all looked at me. I silently looked at the number of the elevator and then I pressed the number twenty.

It took me a while to get to the elevator because there was always someone coming down from each floor. So when I arrived at the twentieth, I quickly approached the counter and saw people lined up to hand in their resumes.

I got in line and gave mine to them and sat in the empty seat. The woman from the front desk said that we should just wait for our name to be called.

I waited there and it took me a few hours before I was called. I was nervous because this was my first job interview. When I entered the HR office, I was asked basic questions and I answered them. They check my grades as well and somehow, they look satisfied. The only problem they have with me is that I have no experience. They said they would override the license problem right away, but I was obstructed by experience. HR said I should just wait for the call from them because they will review my application.

The afternoon took me to De Gracia Holdings. I didn't even have lunch. I just ate some crackers and drank water from the dispenser.

I'm a little sad because I know, as long as HR lines up like that, there's a good chance they won't call, so I'll start looking for a job again. Maybe in a small company that will accept with no experience.

I just walked towards my sister's company and I called her when I reached the parking lot. I saw her car.

"Sister, grandpa said, let's go home together. I'll be here in your parking lot," I promised her.

"What? You're so thick-faced to come here! Didn't I tell you not to come? Wait for me over there!" sister snorted and I could already imagine her angry face. I still get calls.

I waited here in the parking lot. Cars were passing by but they didn't notice me because I was hiding behind the pole. A few minutes ago I saw my sister frowning and looking for me.

She didn't see me right away so I came out of my hiding place. My sister's eyes narrowed when she saw me standing next to her car so she hurried over.

"Are you stupid? Didn't I tell you not to come here with me? Pay attention!" She yelled at me.

I snorted. I'm used to bad words being spoken to me.

"Because grandpa said I should go home with you," I replied lowly to her.

She just got more and more annoyed and it just felt like it wanted to scratch me. Suddenly she looked down at the necklace I was wearing and he was immediately surprised.

"Why is that necklace yours?" it immediately asked me. That question sounded like an accusation to him.

"Ah, grandpa gave—"

"Liar! Why would grandpa give that to you? You stole it! That necklace was meant for me and because you were jealous, you stole it! It's mine!" Suddenly he snatched the necklace from me so it came off my neck.

"Sister, I didn't steal that. Grandpa gave it—"

"Shut up, Alessia. Maybe I'll change my mind and you'll walk home," she threatened me and I kept quiet. "Get on board!"

I feel bad going into his car and I look at the necklace that grandpa gave me. My sister wore it and I couldn't even take it back from her. Maybe I'll just get it from her when grandpa gets home.

My sister got into the car and started it so we could go home.
