"Tell me," Caraline said as she sat back down. Her arms were crossed over her chest, and her lips were curled in a sardonic smile. Oh come on, she was so giddy and depressed that she had forgotten that anyone would do the same.
"What do you want?" Caraline crossed her legs. She could guess that Deric's requirements were not far from money. After all, this was a good opportunity for the deformed man to reap the benefits. Other than misfortune and humiliation, the man had nothing left, did he?
"Miss Caraline, please don't listen to that disabled man," Jeremy said. "I truly apologize for his impudence. You can—"
"Shut up!" interrupted Caraline, "I don't want to hear anything more from your mouth."
Jeremy's jaw suddenly hardened as soon as he heard it. His offer was completely ignored.
"I have only one condition, Miss," Deric said, "my brother's company is currently on the verge of bankruptcy. It will take at least ten million dollars to stabilize the company."
Right after Deric said so, both Jeremy, Jonathan, and James instantly turned to him. Their faces were hit with a very obvious shock. How could that disabled man know?
"If you will help my brother's company, then I will agree to marry you," Deric continued.
Caraline thought the man named Deric was a little out of his mind. Why would he help his three brothers who hated him? Couldn't Deric think for himself?
On the other hand, Jeremy was very confused about what was happening. On the one hand, he needed the money to save the company and his family's lives. However, letting a flawed man be with a woman as perfect as Caraline, and having to accept Deric's pity, is a blatant violation of his pride, especially since his offer to Caraline didn't even get a response, let alone approval. Is there any punishment more terrible than this?
"I agree," Caraline replied lightly, "is there anything else you want?"
"I think that's more than enough," Deric replied, "with that, I feel like I'm contributing a bit to the Aberald family. Besides, I don't want my three brothers to get frustrated because of this matter. And I wanted to provide a little entertainment even though it's nothing compared to the entertainment James gave some girls with the company's money a while ago."
James immediately turned pale when he heard it, especially when Jeremy and Jonathan looked at him with probing eyes. James was ticked off. How did the paralyzed man know? Could he be evasive?
"Alright, all that will be taken care of directly by my assistant. Just give her your account numbers when you meet her in front of the house." Caraline stood up. "I have no more business here. Before I leave, I just want to warn you that I don't want this incident to get out to the media. In other words, you must keep your mouths shut."
Caraline started to take a step but stopped again when she remembered something. "I forgot something. I will prepare all the wedding preparations. You just need to come to the place I mentioned and follow my directions afterward."
After saying so, Caraline immediately walked with wide strides. She briefly glanced at Deric through the corner of her eyes before finally moving away from the room. Once outside, she gulped down oxygen greedily, as if she had just drowned in the deep ocean.
"Are you all right, Miss Caraline?" asked Helen, "You seem tense."
Just as Helen finished speaking, Jeremy, Jonathan, and James appeared from behind the door.
"Helen, transfer ten million dollars to this man immediately," Caraline said, pointing at Jeremy.
"Miss." Helen's voice raised slightly in shock.
"Do it quickly, and get me out of here!" Caraline ordered. As her body landed back on the car seat, she said, "This is my worst day ever. The man I've been looking for has turned out to be a cripple, and tomorrow I have to marry him. I hope Deric gets crushed to death by his wheelchair, or I fall asleep and wake up the day after tomorrow."
To make sure this was real or a dream, Caraline slapped herself on the cheek. "This hurts and it's real. Damn it!"
Afterward, Caraline massaged her throbbing head. Looking to the side, Helen was walking towards her in a hurry, followed by three men from the Aberald family.
"Miss, I've done what you asked," Helen said once her body had settled into the car seat. When she saw the red marks on Caraline's cheeks, she said in a worried tone, "Miss, your cheeks are ...."
"Shut up and take me away from this horrible situation immediately!" Caraline ordered.
Helen gave instructions to the driver. As the vehicle began to move, she leaned back against the seat. Caraline was in a bad mood, and that was a sign that she shouldn't talk too much.
After Caraline's departure, the Aberald siblings immediately swarmed Deric like predators ready to slaughter their quarry.
"What the hell have you done, Scum?" snapped Jonathan as he tugged on Deric's shirt collar, preparing to throw a punch.
"Put your hands down, Jonathan," Jeremy said, "don't disfigure his face like his legs. We'll have to take him tomorrow anyway, just like that woman said."
Afterward, Jeremy massaged his forehead for a while. His eyes squeezed shut as a flash of memory from a few minutes ago replayed in his mind. If circumstances had not forced him to, he would not have prevented Jonathan from taking care of the disabled man.
Jonathan immediately released his grip and lowered his hand. Even so, his gaze still shone with disgust at Deric. The man then threw his body onto a chair not far from where they stood.
"Do you realize what you've done?" asked Jeremy as he looked at Deric angrily.
Deric replied calmly, "I'm just trying to act well. Aren't we acting in a script? I have to admit that the scriptwriter and the woman have good qualities. I almost took this for real."
Deric's answer managed to ignite Jeremy's anger. His face became as red as a crab and his fists became as hard as rocks. The man of record's words made no sense to Jeremy. Didn't he know that he was trying desperately to save the Aberal family's face in front of Caraline?
"Can't you realize your place in this world!" Jeremy screeched.
Deric gave a faint smile. "What's wrong with my answer?"
"You!" Jeremy had completely lost his temper. Mercilessly, he slapped Deric hard on the cheek. The sound of the slap was so loud that Jonathan and James instantly fell silent.
Jeremy seemed to have forgotten what he said to Jonathan earlier.
"You're pathetic," Jeremy said softly. His breathing gradually normalized.
Deric did not overreact. He simply stroked his throbbing cheek, then wiped the blood from the corner of his lip with the back of his hand.
"Look at this!" Jeremy showed Deric his cell phone screen. "That woman named Caraline sent the ten million dollars you said she would. And you know what that means?"
Just as Deric was about to further confirm the row of numbers displayed on the screen, Jeremy immediately pulled back his cell phone. Deric's body that was leaning forward finally straightened up. His face suddenly sank towards where his two feet were.
"I don't know what was going through Caraline's mind that she had to spend part of her life looking for you and asking you to marry her. It doesn't make any sense to me. But judging by her earnestness, I know that there's something behind her crazy actions."
Not satisfied with his words, Jeremy said again, "Don't think that because of your decision, you will be considered a hero for saving the company. To me, you are still trash, a disgrace to the Aberald family!"
Jeremy took a deep breath, then said, "Get lost! And prepare yourself for tomorrow!"
Caraline had not been well since her return from the Aberald residence. For most of the afternoon, she locked herself away in her office, not wanting to be disturbed by anyone. All she did was sit in front of her computer and drift off into a daydream. Caraline couldn't concentrate on work at all. Therefore, everything related to the company was left to Helen. At over eight in the evening, Caraline was still in her office. She was occasionally massaging her head, which was very dizzy. It wasn't because of her crazy actions today, but because her stomach hadn't been filled since noon. Just as Caraline was about to call Helen, her assistant appeared at the door."Miss Caraline, I brought you dinner." Helen placed a tray with a bowl of hot chicken soup and a glass of water on the table.Caraline, who was standing in front of the window, instantly turned around. Her gaze was immediately drawn to the food on the table. "I didn't know you could read my mind, Helen."Helen took a few steps b
Deric's body landed on the ground unpreventably. The man tried to get up by focusing strength on both hands. "Don't worry, I'm fine.""No one wants that from you, Trash," Jonathan said without any guilt.Deric's face stuck to the ground again as his hands failed to lift his body. Even so, he did not give up trying the same thing over and over again. This was no big deal to him. He had already experienced more severe bullying than just being kicked off the terrace and ending up kissing the ground.Jonathan and James once tied him to the big tree behind the house overnight. The two brothers forbade anyone to untie him. Only in the morning, did they let Deric leave with a limp body after a fit of giggles. Not only that, a few months ago, when the Aberald family received an invitation from a business partner, Jeremy suddenly invited him to join. However, while on the way, Deric was suddenly forcibly dropped off in the middle of the highway without phone and money. When he returned home, i
Throughout the night, Caraline couldn't sleep because she was trapped in her thoughts. Watching a movie, taking a walk in the backyard, and finishing a few books all failed to induce drowsiness. It wasn't until the clock struck 4 am that she fell asleep on the sofa and woke up to sunlight.Caraline shook out her hair that was left loose. She was sitting in her study with a cup of tea and a few slices of cake. When there was a knock on the door, Caraline took a deep breath and let it out slowly."Miss Caraline," said Helen, who had just entered the room, "the preparations are almost complete.""Almost?" Caraline set the teacup down on the table. Her eyebrows knitted slightly. "Is there a problem, Helen?"Helen shook her head, then smiled. "The thing that keeps these preparations from being completed is the arrival of the groom and... the bride in her wedding dress." "What about security, Helen?""We have put a super tight cordon around Mililine Tower 2, Ms. Caroline. We have made sure
After passing through multiple guards and checks, the car carrying Deric finally entered the Mililine Tower 2 area. The man then got out of the car. Not long after, his three siblings also set foot in front of the building lobby. The luxury car carrying Deric finally returned to the road. Seeing this, James could only bite his lips hard. He was very upset because he was not allowed to touch the car of his dreams. It's like seeing a pile of diamonds in front of your eyes, but your hands and feet can't touch them."You're just lucky, Rubbish!" cursed James at Deric who was scanning around the building.James felt the need to quell his frustration by teasing Deric. To that end, he kicked the back of the wheelchair until Deric almost fell out of it. Thankfully, the man with the blue bead was still in his chair."James!" screeched Jeremy in a stifled voice. His eyes glared as if he wanted to devour his brother whole. For the first time in his life, he didn't want to see Deric get hurt. "D
Caraline froze instantly when she saw Deric in front of her with one arm outstretched. The man's smile was like magic, turning her body into a statue embedded in the middle of a garden. The deeper Caraline sank into the man's azure bead, the more her heart raced.Oh, come on, Caraline. He's just a useless like you said, Caraline thought. As the wind picked up, Caraline's consciousness returned. Her eyes blinked a few times, and unexpectedly, her feet took a step toward the wedding altar. In another place, Helen was stunned by what she was seeing. Again and again, she turned to Caraline and the three men of the Aberald family. She stood up and took off her glasses to clarify what she was seeing.Helen frowned, squinting as she saw Caraline and the man in the wheelchair facing the man who would marry them. Helen had no idea where the man had come from. She had checked the wedding preparations in great detail several times, but she hadn't seen the man in the black suit since earlier. It
"What do you mean?" asked Caraline in an angry tone. Her appetite for lunch instantly disappeared after hearing Deric's words just now. Her arms reflexively crossed in front of her chest."Miss, I know that this scenario is very interesting, especially since the team that prepared this is very professional. I even thought it was a real wedding and I'm very grateful for all this," Deric replied with a smile.Caraline responded with wide eyes. Her hands immediately dropped from in front of her chest, landing on the table. Just as she was about to interject, Deric spoke first."Miss, can we please end this game?" Deric looked down for a moment, then back up at Caraline. "I think this is enough. I'm sure you've gotten some entertainment out of the scenario you've laid out.""What do you mean?" repeated Caraline. Her hands pounded on the table rather hard. Her eyes sharpened as if she wanted to skin the man in the wheelchair. Is the handicapped man in front of her making a joke? This is no
"What are your plans after this, Caraline?" asked Deric. Instead of answering, Caralie was busy watching the man in front of her from top to bottom through the tail of the eye. "Why do I have to answer your questions? Can you understand your position now?"Honestly, Caraline was a bit offended when Deric called her by her name directly. The woman admitted that she was weird because she was the one who asked Deric to drop the lady's appendage."I'm in the position of someone waiting to hear back from you," Deric replied as he pushed his wheelchair toward Caraline.Seeing Deric approaching, Caraline reflexively retreated without looking at the road conditions. As a result, her foot accidentally tripped over her long skirt, causing her to fall onto the grass. "Aw!"For a moment, Caraline remained silent as she gazed up at the sky beyond the transparent dome of this room. Her eyes widened as she realized what had just happened. As she looked to her left and right, Caraline noticed
"I'm sure James and Jonathan have tried to show their concern." Jeremy kept the glass on the table, then stood up and approached Deric. "Then why don't you try it?""We got those shoes at the best shop in town," Jonathan lied. Anyone would have guessed the shoes were found in a trash or junkyard. "The model is perfect for your beautiful legs. Isn't that right, James?"James laughed out loud. He was even holding his stomach. After the laughter stopped, he said, "There is no more special gift for you than these shoes. So use it to appreciate our gifts."Deric smiled, taking the shoes out of the box. As expected, it was no longer usable. There was a large hole in the front like a gaping mouth. This was much worse than the shoes he was wearing this morning. Admittedly, his siblings were gifted with insults and theatrics."Be happy." Jonathan raised Deric's hands suddenly from behind. Meanwhile, James immediately squatted down and threw away the man's shoes carelessly.James painstakingly
