ATHENA POV

The private conference room at the Imperial Plaza was packed with foreign tech investors. At the center of the mahogany table, Marcus stood confidently, adjusting his tie as a presentation slide projected behind him. Aegis: The Future of Global Data Security.

"With this architecture," Marcus announced, gesturing smoothly to the screen, "we guarantee zero latency and absolute immunity to external breaches. The European sector is ours for the taking."

Chloe Harrington sat near the front, smiling like a proud queen. The investors were nodding, pens hovering over their multi-million dollar contracts.

Then, the heavy double doors opened.

The room went dead silent. Marcus stopped mid-sentence, his jaw dropping slightly.

Lucien walked in first, his posture dominant, his tailored black suit commanding immediate authority. But the real shockwave hit the room when they saw who was attached to his arm. I walked in right beside him, wearing a sleek, silk sapphire dress that screamed old-money elegance. My heels clicked precisely against the hardwood floor.

"Mr. Laurent," the head investor, Mr. Vance Senior's representative, stood up immediately. "We didn't expect you to attend the bidding dinner."

"I rarely miss a poor investment opportunity," Lucien said, his voice smooth, echoing with terrifying calm. He pulled out a chair for me, his hand lingering deliberately on my shoulder. "Please, continue, Marcus. Don't let my fiancée disrupt your pitch."

Fiancée.

The word hit Marcus like a physical blow. His face drained of color as his eyes darted from Lucien’s hand on my shoulder to the massive diamond ring sparkling on my left hand. "Athena?" he stammered, his professional mask cracking completely. "What are you doing here? And what do you mean, fiancée?"

"Mr. Vance," Lucien’s voice dropped into a dangerous, icy register. "You are addressing my future wife. Watch your tone."

Chloe Harrington snapped her head toward Marcus, her expression hardening. "Marcus, what is the meaning of this? Why is your old assistant with your step-brother?"

The investors began to whisper frantically. Marcus was trembling, his fingers clutching the edge of the podium. "Lucien, this is a joke. She's a nobody. She’s an incompetent clerk I fired three days ago!"

"Is she?" I spoke up, my voice remarkably steady, cutting through his panic. I reached into my small clutch and pulled out a sleek, slim silver tablet. I didn't look at Marcus’s angry eyes; I looked directly at the foreign investors. "If Aegis is as flawless as Mr. Vance claims, then his main frame shouldn't mind a real-time stress test."

"What are you doing?" Marcus lunged forward, but Lucien stepped into his path, his towering frame completely blocking him.

"Sit down, Marcus," Lucien said quietly. The pure authority in his voice made Marcus freeze in his tracks.

I tapped a single command on my screen. Execute script: Zero-Day.

On the main projector screen, the beautiful Aegis presentation suddenly vanished. In its place, lines of red code began cascading down like rain. A massive digital clock appeared on the display, counting down.

5... 4... 3...

"Shut it down! Turn off the projector!" Marcus screamed at his technician, but the technician’s keyboard was completely locked.

2... 1...

System Override. Core Database Compromised.

The entire Aegis system crashed, leaving nothing but a blank, black screen with a single sentence in white text: Property of Athena Moretti.

It took exactly five seconds.

The room erupted into absolute chaos. Investors stood up, shouting into their phones, pulling their contracts off the table. Chloe Harrington slapped her folder shut, giving Marcus a look of pure disgust before walking out of the room, her security detail following her.

"You ruined me!" Marcus roared, charging toward the edge of the table, his eyes wild with rage. "You patched the firewall! How did you bypass the Harrington proxy?"

I stood up, calmly placing my tablet back into my clutch. I looked at the man who had stolen my life, and for the first time, I felt absolutely nothing. "Because you only stole the code, Marcus. You never understood how it actually worked."

Lucien offered me his arm, a dark, satisfied smirk playing on his lips. I slid my hand into the crook of his elbow, and together, we walked out of the room, leaving Marcus screaming behind us.

We bypassed the reporters in the lobby and made it to the underground parking garage. The silence of the concrete space was a stark contrast to the madness upstairs. Lucien’s driver opened the door to the luxury sedan, and we both slid into the back seat.

As the car pulled out into the rainy streets, the adrenaline finally began to fade, leaving my hands trembling slightly. I looked down at my lap. We had won. The revenge was clean, perfect, and absolute.

"You did well, Athena," Lucien said, his voice low and intimate in the dark confines of the car. He reached out, his long fingers gently wrapping around my shaking hand, his thumb brushing over my knuckles. "Marcus is finished. The Harrington merger is dead."

I looked up at him, his dark eyes watching me with a strange, intense heat that made my heart race. For a second, I forgot this was all a contract. I forgot he was my boss.

Then, my phone vibrated in my clutch.

I pulled it out, expecting a frantic text from Marcus. Instead, it was an unknown number. I swiped to answer, placing the phone to my ear. "Hello?"

"Miss Moretti?" a raspy, quiet voice answered over the static. "It's Arthur. The private investigator you hired to look into your family's old records."

My chest tightened. I looked at Lucien, who was still holding my hand, his gaze fixed on my face. "Did you find something?" I whispered.

"I found the digital trail of your father's bankruptcy five years ago," the investigator said, his voice chillingly clear. "It wasn't an accident, Miss Moretti. Your father was set up. The shadow corporation that bought out his remaining shares and forced him onto the street... it belongs to Lucien Laurent."

ATHENA POV The live video feed on the main display didn't flicker. It stayed perfectly clear, showing the cold concrete hallway right outside our door. Russo stood there, his face completely expressionless under the rotating amber lights, his fingers steady as he pressed a small, red hacking device against the primary electronic lock panel. My breath caught in my throat. Russo? He had been Lucien's right-hand man for years. He was the one who just hauled Arthur and Marcus away. But now he was standing outside the vault, manually overriding the manual lockdown protocols we had just put in place. Beside me, Lucien didn't move a muscle. His hands stayed resting on my shoulders, his grip tightening just enough for me to feel the sudden, dangerous shift in his energy. He didn't swear. He didn't gasp. His eyes just narrowed into two dark, lethal slits as he stared at the screen. "Russo has the secondary administrative override keys," Lucien said, his voice dropping into a register so lo

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 25: The Blue Screen

ATHENA POV The braided cable clicked into the main display console. For a second, nothing happened. The giant monitor on the wall stayed pitch black, reflecting the cold, fluorescent tubes overhead and the tense, quiet way Lucien was standing right behind my shoulder. Then, the system hummed. The dark glass flared into life, throwing a sharp, bright blue light across the concrete walls of the vault. A.M. - Private Archive 2019. My thumb hovered over the tablet interface. I could feel my own pulse vibrating against the edges of the screen. This was it. The exact point where my childhood memories of my dad—sitting at our cramped kitchen table with cold coffee, telling me his software would change the world—clashed with the reality of billionaire boardrooms and offshore trusts. I tapped the screen. The main folder branched out into three distinct sub-directories. They weren't complex code bases or encrypted algorithms like the ones I had just destroyed upstairs. They were simple,

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 24: The Chemical Relay

ATHENA POV My eyes darted from the heavy steel wire-cutter in Arthur’s hand to the thick, yellow-striped ground cable resting inside the exposed wall panel. He wasn't bluffing. If he clamped down on that line, the sudden electrical surge would trip the emergency sensors. The automated fire suppression system would see it as a catastrophic electrical fire and dump localized Halon gas into this sealed server room to smother the oxygen. We would have exactly five seconds to breathe before our lungs came up empty. Beside me, Lucien didn't waver. The barrel of his gun remained completely steady, aligned perfectly with the center of Arthur’s chest. But I could see the slight shift in his posture, the way his weight balanced onto the balls of his feet. He was timing the distance between himself and the relay panel. "You cut that line, Arthur," Lucien said, his voice dropping into a terrifyingly quiet whisper, "and you die in this vault before the gas even hits the vents. Marcus won't mak

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 23: The Basement Gate

ATHENA POV Russo’s voice cut through the freezing air of the office, making my heart drop straight into my stomach. The basement level. Someone was already moving toward the archives while Lucien and I were standing here arguing about secrets from five years ago. I looked at Lucien. The corporate wall he had built up a second ago cracked, replaced by a sharp, lethal focus. He didn't look at Russo; his eyes were fixed on me, calculating our next move in a fraction of a second. "How many?" Lucien asked, his voice dropping into that low, dangerous register. "Two signatures on the biometric bypass, sir," Russo said, tapping his earpiece. "But the camera feed was spiked right before the gate opened. We’re blind on the lower lift." "It’s Arthur," I said, the realization hitting me before anyone else could speak. I grabbed my silver tablet from the desk, my fingers tightening against the aluminum casing. "He didn't run when the federal teams showed up. He knew the moment Chloe’s server

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 22: The Shadow of 2019

ATHENA POV The green letters on the monitor screen burned straight through the lingering relief I had just felt a second ago. Look at your father's private estate archive from 2019. My hands, which Lucien was still holding in his warm, steady grip, went completely numb all over again. I pulled away from him slowly, my eyes locked on the monitor as the text blinked twice and then systematically wiped itself from the terminal. The screen went completely dark, leaving nothing but our own pale reflections staring back at us through the glass. I felt like someone had just ripped the floor out from under my feet. We had just watched Chloe leave this room in handcuffs. We had just broken the Harrington network. For a tiny, stupid second, I actually thought I could finally breathe. I thought I could go back to a normal life where I didn't have to look over my shoulder every time a dark car slowed down on the street. But this whole thing was a lie. The Harringtons weren't the main villa

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 21: The Reckoning Floor

LUCIEN POV The heavy double doors of my office didn't just open; they were pushed aside with the weight of federal authority. Six agents in tactical vests entered the room, their boots loud against the minimalist gray carpet. The bright, pulsing blue light from the corridor cut through the dim, amber emergency glow of my suite, casting long, frantic shadows across the glass desk. I didn't move. I kept my left hand resting lightly on the small of Athena’s back, feeling the rapid, rhythmic rise and fall of her breathing. She was tense, her shoulders straight and rigid, but she didn't step away from me. When I first brought her into my world a week ago, I saw her as an elite instrument—a brilliant, vengeful developer who could help me excise the rot Marcus had brought into the Laurent name. I had designed our fake engagement contract to be entirely transactional, a calculated play to draw out the Harringtons and force my step-brother into a corner. I expected her to be passive, to

ATHENA POVThe workspace Lucien provided inside his penthouse looked more like a premium tech lab than a home office. Three massive, curved monitors glowed in the dim room, casting a cool blue light over my face. It was 2:14 AM. My fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard, tapping out a sequence

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 3: The Terms of Engagement

ATHENA POV"Your fiancée," I repeated. The word tasted heavy and entirely foreign on my tongue. I stared at Lucien, looking for any sign of a joke on his face. There was none. His expression remained as stone-cold as the glass walls surrounding us."A temporary arrangement," Lucien clarified calmly

ATHENA POVThe matte-black business card felt heavy between my fingers. ATHENA POVThe heavy glass doors of the Grand Horizon Ballroom did not just keep the cold night air out; they kept a certain class of people in. I adjusted the strap of my cheap heels, feeling entirely out of place among the silk gowns and tailored tuxedos. But I forced a smile. Tonight wasn't abou
