ATHENA POV

The private conference room at the Imperial Plaza was packed with foreign tech investors. At the center of the mahogany table, Marcus stood confidently, adjusting his tie as a presentation slide projected behind him. Aegis: The Future of Global Data Security.

"With this architecture," Marcus announced, gesturing smoothly to the screen, "we guarantee zero latency and absolute immunity to external breaches. The European sector is ours for the taking."

Chloe Harrington sat near the front, smiling like a proud queen. The investors were nodding, pens hovering over their multi-million dollar contracts.

Then, the heavy double doors opened.

The room went dead silent. Marcus stopped mid-sentence, his jaw dropping slightly.

Lucien walked in first, his posture dominant, his tailored black suit commanding immediate authority. But the real shockwave hit the room when they saw who was attached to his arm. I walked in right beside him, wearing a sleek, silk sapphire dress that screamed old-money elegance. My heels clicked precisely against the hardwood floor.

"Mr. Laurent," the head investor, Mr. Vance Senior's representative, stood up immediately. "We didn't expect you to attend the bidding dinner."

"I rarely miss a poor investment opportunity," Lucien said, his voice smooth, echoing with terrifying calm. He pulled out a chair for me, his hand lingering deliberately on my shoulder. "Please, continue, Marcus. Don't let my fiancée disrupt your pitch."

Fiancée.

The word hit Marcus like a physical blow. His face drained of color as his eyes darted from Lucien’s hand on my shoulder to the massive diamond ring sparkling on my left hand. "Athena?" he stammered, his professional mask cracking completely. "What are you doing here? And what do you mean, fiancée?"

"Mr. Vance," Lucien’s voice dropped into a dangerous, icy register. "You are addressing my future wife. Watch your tone."

Chloe Harrington snapped her head toward Marcus, her expression hardening. "Marcus, what is the meaning of this? Why is your old assistant with your step-brother?"

The investors began to whisper frantically. Marcus was trembling, his fingers clutching the edge of the podium. "Lucien, this is a joke. She's a nobody. She’s an incompetent clerk I fired three days ago!"

"Is she?" I spoke up, my voice remarkably steady, cutting through his panic. I reached into my small clutch and pulled out a sleek, slim silver tablet. I didn't look at Marcus’s angry eyes; I looked directly at the foreign investors. "If Aegis is as flawless as Mr. Vance claims, then his main frame shouldn't mind a real-time stress test."

"What are you doing?" Marcus lunged forward, but Lucien stepped into his path, his towering frame completely blocking him.

"Sit down, Marcus," Lucien said quietly. The pure authority in his voice made Marcus freeze in his tracks.

I tapped a single command on my screen. Execute script: Zero-Day.

On the main projector screen, the beautiful Aegis presentation suddenly vanished. In its place, lines of red code began cascading down like rain. A massive digital clock appeared on the display, counting down.

5... 4... 3...

"Shut it down! Turn off the projector!" Marcus screamed at his technician, but the technician’s keyboard was completely locked.

2... 1...

System Override. Core Database Compromised.

The entire Aegis system crashed, leaving nothing but a blank, black screen with a single sentence in white text: Property of Athena Moretti.

It took exactly five seconds.

The room erupted into absolute chaos. Investors stood up, shouting into their phones, pulling their contracts off the table. Chloe Harrington slapped her folder shut, giving Marcus a look of pure disgust before walking out of the room, her security detail following her.

"You ruined me!" Marcus roared, charging toward the edge of the table, his eyes wild with rage. "You patched the firewall! How did you bypass the Harrington proxy?"

I stood up, calmly placing my tablet back into my clutch. I looked at the man who had stolen my life, and for the first time, I felt absolutely nothing. "Because you only stole the code, Marcus. You never understood how it actually worked."

Lucien offered me his arm, a dark, satisfied smirk playing on his lips. I slid my hand into the crook of his elbow, and together, we walked out of the room, leaving Marcus screaming behind us.

We bypassed the reporters in the lobby and made it to the underground parking garage. The silence of the concrete space was a stark contrast to the madness upstairs. Lucien’s driver opened the door to the luxury sedan, and we both slid into the back seat.

As the car pulled out into the rainy streets, the adrenaline finally began to fade, leaving my hands trembling slightly. I looked down at my lap. We had won. The revenge was clean, perfect, and absolute.

"You did well, Athena," Lucien said, his voice low and intimate in the dark confines of the car. He reached out, his long fingers gently wrapping around my shaking hand, his thumb brushing over my knuckles. "Marcus is finished. The Harrington merger is dead."

I looked up at him, his dark eyes watching me with a strange, intense heat that made my heart race. For a second, I forgot this was all a contract. I forgot he was my boss.

Then, my phone vibrated in my clutch.

I pulled it out, expecting a frantic text from Marcus. Instead, it was an unknown number. I swiped to answer, placing the phone to my ear. "Hello?"

"Miss Moretti?" a raspy, quiet voice answered over the static. "It's Arthur. The private investigator you hired to look into your family's old records."

My chest tightened. I looked at Lucien, who was still holding my hand, his gaze fixed on my face. "Did you find something?" I whispered.

"I found the digital trail of your father's bankruptcy five years ago," the investigator said, his voice chillingly clear. "It wasn't an accident, Miss Moretti. Your father was set up. The shadow corporation that bought out his remaining shares and forced him onto the street... it belongs to Lucien Laurent."

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 32: The Highway Lines

ATHENA POV The city fell away in a blur of wet asphalt and smeared neon lights. I leaned my head against the cool glass of the passenger window, watching the rain strike the surface in sharp, chaotic patterns. The heavy, armored SUV cut through the storm with a low, rhythmic hum, the windshield wipers clearing the view in a steady, monotonous sweep. Everything back at the Laurent headquarters felt a million miles away now, but my heart was still doing a frantic dance against my ribs. Julian Vance getting led away in handcuffs. The flash of green text on my tablet confirming the open-source leak. The look on Lucien’s face when he fired that shot through the headlight. It was a lot to process. A week ago, I was just a ghost in a small, damp apartment, surviving on black coffee and a burning need to make Marcus pay for what he did. Now, I was sitting in a vehicle that cost more than my father's entire first server farm, riding shotgun with a man who had just casually burned his own c

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 31: The Open Ramp

LUCIEN POV The high-beam headlights of the arriving SUVs washed over the concrete pillars, painting the whole garage in a harsh, sterile white. The engines idled low, a heavy, synchronized growl that echoed off the low ceiling. I didn't lower my weapon until the lead vehicle came to a hard stop and the doors flew open. Men in tactical gear, carrying the official crest of the federal compliance task force, spilled out onto the asphalt. They weren't my security team, and they definitely weren't the estate's private contractors. "Federal agents! Nobody move!" Julian Vance stood perfectly still by the hood of his shattered sedan. The absolute control he had held over my family’s trust for four decades evaporated right in front of us. He didn't look like a kingmaker anymore. He just looked like an old man whose bluff had been called in a dirty parking lot. I slowly dropped my arm, letting the gun rest against my thigh, but I didn't put it away. My left hand was still stiff, the blood

ATHENA POVThe blue security lights of the garage cast long, cold shadows across the concrete floor. I stood entirely still behind Lucien’s broad shoulder, my eyes fixed on the small metallic cylinder in Julian Vance’s hand. The red light on top of the device didn't blink. It stayed solid, a tiny, glowing dot of warning that felt far more dangerous than any firearm. My chest was tight, my breathing shallow as I looked down at my tablet. The blue loading circle was spinning slowly, agonizingly.Satellite Uplink Active. Broadcast: 18% Completed.Only eighteen percent. At this rate, we needed at least two more minutes. Two minutes in an empty, locked-down garage with the chief trustee of the Laurent estate felt like an eternity."An electromagnetic pulse transmitter," I muttered, my voice barely carrying over the quiet, low idle of Julian’s luxury sedan. I didn't need to overexplain it to myself. I knew exactly what that little cylinder was. It was a localized, high-frequency jammer. If

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 29: The Concrete Floor

ATHENA POV My fingers slipped on the greasy metal of the elevator roof. For a terrifying second, my boots dangled in the empty air of the shaft, the dark void below yawning like an open mouth. Then, Lucien’s hand closed around my wrist. His grip was incredibly tight, almost painful, but it was the only thing keeping me from falling back down into the smoke. With one powerful, fluid pull, he hoisted me up onto the flat, dusty top of the elevator cabin. I scrambled onto my knees, my breath coming in ragged, shallow gasps as I tucked my tablet tightly against my ribs. Lucien climbed up right behind me, his boots landing with a dull, heavy clonk on the hollow metal roof. He didn't waste a second. He crouched low, his dark eyes scanning the concrete walls of the shaft above us. The only light came from the narrow gap between the elevator door and the concrete floor of the garage level, about four feet above our heads. I looked down at his left hand. The wet, dark smear of blood on his

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 28: The Vertical Climb

ATHENA POVThe deafening echoes of the gunshots boomed up the narrow shaft, vibrating violently through the cold iron rungs under my fingers. The sound scraped against my eardrums, hollow and terrifying in the cramped metallic space. My lungs burned as I hauled myself up, rung after rung, my legs straining. I didn't dare look down. The dark space below me was a void filled with the smell of spent gunpowder, burnt electronics, and the sharp hiss of a thermal lance.Climb. Just climb. My heart was beating so violently against my ribs it felt like it would crack them open. I had the silver tablet pinned tight between my ribs and my left arm, the sharp aluminum edges digging painfully through my damp shirt. The metal was slick with my own sweat, making every shift of my weight a gamble. If I dropped it now, everything we had done—the encryption loop, the open-source threat, the truth about 2019—would plunge straight down into the hands of the people who had killed the data core.Another m

ATHENA POVThe small video window of my dad’s face was gone, but his voice still echoed in the dark space of my mind. Athena is the only master node. He hadn't just left me a legacy; he had practically turned my entire digital footprint into a dead man's switch. If the Laurent trust executors or whatever was left of the Harringtons tried to launch the software without my explicit permission, the entire multi-billion-dollar architecture would become public property. It would be free for anyone on the internet to download, copy, and modify. For a corporate giant like Laurent Holdings, that was a fate worse than destruction. You can't monetize a product that everyone owns for free. The heavy, mechanical scraping sound from the other side of the steel door grew louder, a grating screech of metal against metal that vibrated straight through the soles of my shoes. Someone out there was using heavy equipment. They weren't trying to hack the electronic lock anymore; they were physically cutti

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 2: The Card on the Table

ATHENA POVThe matte-black business card felt heavy between my fingers. I sat on the edge of my bed in the tiny, cramped apartment I shared with two roommates, staring at the embossed silver lettering: Laurent Holdings. Lucien Laurent, Managing Director.I hadn’t slept. Every time I closed my eyes,

ATHENA POVThe heavy glass doors of the Grand Horizon Ballroom did not just keep the cold night air out; they kept a certain class of people in. I adjusted the strap of my cheap heels, feeling entirely out of place among the silk gowns and tailored tuxedos. But I forced a smile. Tonight wasn't abou

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 4: Overtime Hours

ATHENA POVThe workspace Lucien provided inside his penthouse looked more like a premium tech lab than a home office. Three massive, curved monitors glowed in the dim room, casting a cool blue light over my face. It was 2:14 AM. My fingers flew across the mechanical keyboard, tapping out a sequence

  • In Bed With The Billionaire Boss   Chapter 3: The Terms of Engagement

ATHENA POV"Your fiancée," I repeated. The word tasted heavy and entirely foreign on my tongue. I stared at Lucien, looking for any sign of a joke on his face. There was none. His expression remained as stone-cold as the glass walls surrounding us."A temporary arrangement," Lucien clarified calmly
