“Daddy, who is the woman tied to your bed?” A little girl asked with sparkling eyes while hugging a gift wrapped with a bear picture.
Meazus was quite surprised to hear his daughter's question. He didn't know why Selena could play there. Besides, where were all the nannies assigned to accompany Selena while she played? Almost eight years since Selena was born, Meazus had never allowed his daughter to go there.
“I'll kill them all.” Meazus clenched his fists as he spoke to himself.
The little girl wearing a pink dress and a matching headband tried to call her daddy again.
“Daddy, you're not answering me.”
Meazus tried to compose his expression in front of Selena and began speaking softly.
“How could you play all the way over there?” Meazus asked as he knelt in front of his daughter. He held Selena's small shoulders and smiled. “Next time, you must not go there. Do you understand?”
Selena puckered her lips. “Sure.”
“You shouldn't be sad because your birthday party is about to start.”
Today was Selena's eighth birthday. Meazus's daughter had turned eight without a mother, so every birthday she always prayed for a mother.
“You haven't given me a gift yet, Daddy.”
“You're right, what gift do you want, my little princess?”
“I want the woman tied to your bed to be released for me.”

Three days ago...
“Deanna, can you check the VIP room in the lavender room?” Someone took off their glasses to relieve the fatigue in their eyes. “I'm a little dizzy.”
Deanna nodded and got up from the swivel chair, then left the nurse station and headed toward the VIP room mentioned by her colleague, who was also a nurse.
The woman stopped at a VIP room named Lavender. Deanna stopped because she heard strange whispers inside—as if they were discussing a very dangerous secret.
"This poison is very rare! If we inject it into his IV, he'll die in a few seconds. Isn't this the perfect time? The only one to blame for his death is the hospital's negligence."
Meazus Lucasio was the leader of a mafia syndicate involved in oil, gas, and machinery refurbishment in Manhattan. The man was engaged in a fierce rivalry with a cartel over a female night guard due to a failed tender.
The man from Brazil was hospitalized exclusively after being shot at the headquarters of a mafia boss who won the tender. Meazus Lucasio should have won the tender, but the man now in critical condition revealed secrets and leaked them to the mafia-specific media within the syndicate.
“Don't be reckless, Zoan.” Meazus glanced toward the door. “I hear heavy breathing coming from there.”
The door where Deanna was eavesdropping suddenly opened, revealing Meazus's furious face. “Were you just eavesdropping?!” Meazus asked in his baritone voice.
Deanna took a step back. “N-no. I... I didn't hear anything. I just arrived here.” Deanna's mouth stammered with fear, but she still tried to muster the courage to enter the room where the sleeping patient lay.
Deanna held the hand of the middle-aged man who was fast asleep and checked whether the IV he was using was still working properly. The beautiful nurse did not know that the patient who was fast asleep was not sleeping because he was tired, but because Meazus and Zoan had injected something into the IV.
The woman, who worked as a nurse, tried to remain calm, even though she was truly terrified at that moment. Deanna’s knees felt weak, but she had to maintain her professionalism as a medical professional. “Alright, I have to go because his condition is improving. He's also sleeping soundly.” Deanna forced a smile at the two handsome men with sharp eyes. One had lake-green eyes, and the other had light brown eyes. Meazus and Zoan said nothing and let Deanna leave the room, but they wouldn't allow someone who knew their plan to roam freely. Meazus and Zoan's plan could be carried out by seeing Deanna tied up in the basement on the same day. Initially, Deanna was moved to Meazus's room due to minor repairs in the basement, then tied up again in the basement the next day. The room was usually used to store wine from the golden years. Today marks exactly three days since Deanna has been there. She is still wearing her nurse's uniform, though it is now dirty and tattered. Both of Deanna's hands are bound with iron, but her legs are completely unrestrained. Her mouth is also not covered, as no one would hear her screams from the basement. The room is completely soundproof. Deanna had not eaten anything for three days, but she could not bear the thirst that was tormenting her throat. Someone had been ordered by him to give Deanna food and drink, but she refused to eat even a single bite from the plate. “Why are you still letting her live, Mr. Meazus?” Zoan, who was Meazus's right-hand man and CEO of New Calce Technology, stood in front of the black metallic table. Meazus stopped playing with the miniature car on his desk and glared sharply at Zoan. The founder of New Calce Technology clenched his jaw. “I heard she hasn't eaten anything until this morning. So she will die slowly. I also can't think much because Selena is holding a birthday party this afternoon.” Meazus stood up from the swivel chair and repeated his words with emphasis. “Don't touch her, let her die slowly.” Several hours later, after the birthday party ended, all the guests gradually left the place. Most of the invited guests were Meazus' business friends who had children. “Daddy.” Selena approached Meazus' position after the last guest left their house. It seemed Selena still wanted to collect on Meazus' promise, even though her father did not approve of Selena's request. “Didn't you promise to give me a gift?” She gave him a sweet look that Meazus couldn't resist. Meazus looked at Selena and knelt down to be at the same level as the little girl. Daddy held Selena's shoulders. “Can you wait in your room? You can open some of the gifts you received today.” Selena puckered her lips. “But I also want to see that woman.” “Not this time, Selena. Go to your room.” Selena raised her pinky finger toward Meazus' face. “Promise me you'll release her as my birthday gift, Daddy.” Meazus stared at the little finger for a few seconds before hooking it with his own. “Sure, Daughter.” “Daddy.” Selena held Meazus's hand with her other hand. “Don't you want a new wife for yourself? I'm saying this because I want a mother.” Meazus's small smile vanished at Selena's words. The man released her pinky finger and stood up. “Go to your room.”Selena smiled sweetly. “Bye, Daddy! I love you.”
Selena went to her room accompanied by several nannies walking behind her, while Meazus stood up and walked toward the basement—the place where Deanna was tied up after being moved from his room. The basement resembled a warehouse, untidy and covered in spider webs in several spots. Deanna was tied between two iron bars, lying asleep on the dirty floor. Meazus entered alone and forbade anyone else from following him. The shiny black loafers stopped in front of Deanna’s pale face. Deanna slowly opened her eyes and stared at Meazus’s loafers. “H-help.” “I don’t know what you’re saying to my daughter.” Meazus’s heavy voice began to echo in the room. “But you’re not allowed to die today.”“Excuse me.”Devon heard a voice coming from outside the door, but he was sure it wasn't Raline's voice. Immediately, he wondered where she was.“Where is she?” Devon asked himself. “Come in.” Devon finally allowed Asina to enter and asked her to put the tray on the nightstand. “You can go.”“Don't you want me to help you—”Devon sat on the bed and shook his head. “I don't need your help at all.”Asina was silent for a few seconds then turned around. She closed the door and walked away angrily toward the elevator. "Why did he reject me? Is he not in a good mood? If Raline is allowed to feed him, then why can't I?"“Asina, can you help me?” asked a middle-aged woman whom Asina often called “mom.” The woman was holding a tray when she ran into her daughter. “You can give this to Ms. Davina. I'm busy with something else.”Asina clicked her tongue because she was also not in a good mood, but she still accepted the request. She took the tray held by her mom and got back on the elevator.“E
“I'm stupid, I'm so stupid.” Raline quickly walked out of the door and really regretted what she had said to Devon a few minutes ago.“Why did I yell at him like that? I shouldn't have said that.” Raline went into her room and threw herself onto her bed. "Argh, I said that because mom is always like that. I'm used to it."Before going to work, Raline had to take care of her sick mother, such as preparing food and giving her medicine. Sometimes her mother had difficulty taking her medicine and asked for food or drinks that actually slowed down the medicine's effectiveness.“I have to prepare myself to be fired.” Raline cursed herself and buried her face in her pillows. “Tomorrow is the day I officially become homeless. What if that man holds a grudge and thinks I'm rude, but when I think about it, I am rude.”Raline removed the pillows from her face and stared at the ceiling. The woman thought critically about why Devon suddenly seemed to hate her.“His expression when he came out of t
“I'm really scared right now.”Raline tried knocking on the door, but he didn't seem to want to answer. Raline tried to make her voice heard so Devon would know it wasn't Davina knocking on the door.“Excuse me, Mr. Devon.”Raline's voice could be heard from outside the door, and the man allowed her to enter. Inside, Devon already knew that it was probably one of the house servants who had come.Devon didn't know anyone here except his immediate family and a few house servants who had been working before he left for England.“Come in.”Raline finally tried to enter and she began to stare at Devon. The man stared at Raline for a long time as if he was trying to remember her face.“I was asked to bring you this food, Mr. Devon.”“Bribe me.”Devon's request made Raline's feet stop leaving the room. The woman turned around and looked at Devon once more to make sure her hearing wasn't wrong.“You want me to feed you, Mr. Devon?”“Yes.”Raline saw that both of Devon's hands seemed to be fin
Raline tried to remember Davina's face and finally recognized the woman. Raline immediately wanted to leave because she was so embarrassed.“Are you the new nanny?” asked Davina, who was still standing in the doorway.“Yeah, I just started working three days ago.”“Are you the new nanny for Devon?”“I'm not sure about that yet because Asina didn't tell me. So far, I've been working in the kitchen. Asina said that I could move to be the new nanny for Meazus's first daughter, who is pregnant.”Davina closed the door from the outside, but she was still standing in front of the closed door. “Sis Selena doesn't live here. I mean, she's moving next month. So you're going to be Devon's new nanny, right?” asked Davina, who seemed to be holding back her laughter.“I think so.”"Then come with me. I'll introduce you to the man you'll be taking care of. Devon is sick, so you have to take care of him for a while until Sis Selena moves into this room," said Davina, walking one step ahead of Raline
“Where's Devon, Mom?” asked Selena, who was now calling Deanna while she was on the road. “I'll be right there.”“Devon is being treated at the same hospital as Daddy. You don't need to come here tonight, Selena. Your health is also very important.”"My husband and I just got back from the minimarket to buy some things. We haven't gotten home yet, Mom. We'll be there soon."“Okay.” Deanna couldn't force Selena anymore because now her mind was all over the place. Deanna's feet walked down the hallway towards the emergency room. Fortunately, the residents who saw Devon took him to the same hospital as Meazus."Excuse me, I'm Devon Lucasio's mother. How is my son?“ Deanna asked a nurse waiting at the main door of the emergency room from behind. ”Can I see him yet?"“The patient named Devon Lucasio has just been treated by the doctor. You can wait after the examination, ma'am.”Deanna nodded after taking a deep breath. The woman felt drained when she heard that Devon had been in an accide
“Wow, this place is huge and luxurious.” Raline looked up to take in her surroundings, which she thought resembled a palace. “Did he get all this from his work as a mobster? Are his kids mobsters too?”Asina continued walking into the mansion and thought all the designs in this place were ordinary, probably because she had seen them for years. “No, just the big boss, I mean just Mr. Meazus.”“His name is Meazus?” asked Raline as she pulled her suitcase.“Yeah, Mr. Meazus Lucasio.”Raline was silent for a moment because she seemed to have heard that last name somewhere, but she couldn't quite remember clearly.“I'll take you to my mom. You have to be interviewed first before you can officially work here.”“But... How old is his son that he needs a private nanny?”“Twenty-five years old.”Raline opened her mouth because she was very surprised to hear the answer from the woman who wasn't looking at her. “Does he have any physical or mental disabilities?”“I heard that none of Meazus' chi
