Chapter 4

ผู้เขียน: Perfect Timing
The Grahams still wanted to say something, but I quickly hung up.

Bruce wasn't ready to give up. While comforting a weak, bedridden Sean, he called me several times more, only for me to reject every single one.

Eventually, I got annoyed and sent him a voice message.

"Bruce, stop pestering me already! I'm out shopping with Sasha right now. Her birthday's coming up, and I'm picking a gift for her. Know your place!"

As soon as he tried to reply, he realized that I'd already blocked and deleted him from my contacts.

"Dad, is Mom abandoning us?" Sean was seen sobbing, his eyes red.

"Of course not." Bruce forced a smile, trying to comfort him. "She loves you the most."

As the scene faded, the audience burst into tears.

"How could a mother say something like that when her child is already so miserable?"

"Can the judge just sentence this woman to death already? She's pissing me off."

"My heart breaks for the Grahams. Just what did they do to end up with someone as vile as Wanda?"

I sneered. My gaze landed on Sally, who was also weeping with the crowd.

"Oh? Are you lot feeling sorry for them? Did Ms. Sullivan give you permission to?" I taunted. "You're all tripping over yourselves to be props for the Grahams. Want me to give you each an award for your performance?"

Chaos erupted again.

The judge had no choice but to strike the gavel again.

"Order! Order in the court!"

Silence finally enveloped the room. But because the live stream had gone viral, new viewers flooded in and began spamming the chat.

"Is the defendant this vicious because Ms. Sullivan never actually saved her? Otherwise, how could a human do something so monstrous?"

"Can the judge pull up Ms. Sullivan's memory of saving the defendant?"

More and more people demanded that the judge extract Sally's memory of the time she rescued me.

Hands on my hips, I snapped, "You all want to see me at my worst, huh? Keep dreaming!"

But for the sake of collecting solid evidence, the judge played the scene from the car accident, starting from the moment Sally risked her life to save me.

With a violent screech of tires, an SUV in front slammed into the highway barrier ahead. The car behind couldn't react in time and crashed straight into it.

A mere 30 seconds later, the dazed Grahams stumbled out of their backseat.

Carrying Sean in his arms, Bruce rushed to the front wreck. "Wanda, are you okay?"

"Mom! Mom, are you alright?" Sean cried.

When they saw half of my car hanging off a cliff, both collapsed to the ground, too terrified to move.

Sally had just stepped out of their car. Just as she was about to dash toward my car, the Grahams stopped her.

"Sally, what are you doing?" Bruce croaked, his eyes red and teary.

"Sally, it's too dangerous," Sean cried. "You can't go. We've already called 911. Someone will be here soon to rescue Mom."

Sally glanced at my car, anxiety flashing in her eyes.

"Bruce, there's no time," she said hastily. "Can't you see half her car is over the edge? If she wakes up and moves even an inch, she could fall to her death!"

With that, she wrenched her hand out of their grip and sprinted toward me. Everyone saw her bite through the jammed seatbelt and drag me out of the driver's seat.

We had barely gotten out when the vehicle exploded and tumbled down the cliff.

On the screen, Sally's entire back was scorched as she shielded me from the blast.

The smell of burning flesh seemed to seep through the screen. The crowd covered their mouths in horror as they held their breath.

And yet, the moment I snapped back to my senses, I didn't thank Sally. Instead, I slapped her hard across the face twice as she was being lifted onto a stretcher.

The Grahams immediately pulled me away.

"Wanda, are you insane?" Bruce bellowed. "Sally risked her life to drag you out of a fire, and this is how you repay your savior?"

"Mom, since when have you become so cruel?" Sean cried out. "Sally burned her back saving you, and you have the audacity to hit her?"

I yanked my hand off and sneered. "Did I ever ask that bitch to save me?"

Sally started shifting her whole body toward the back of the car, forcefully pressing my upper body toward the front. After the crash, the front half of the car was already hanging over the cliff. With Sally deliberately exerting force on the vehicle, it was sure to fall. In that critical moment, I yanked my trapped hands free and grabbed her arm with all my strength. I was practically latched onto her when she had no choice but to drag me out of the car. But Sally wasn't an idiot either. The moment she noticed that I had climbed out of the vehicle and that police and ambulance sirens were approaching from afar, she immediately started her performance. She pulled me into her arms to make it look like she was protecting me, so that everyone would believe that she truly was trying to save me. By then, no matter how I tried to explain the truth, no one would believe me if I said that Sally was actually trying to kill me.Hugging me from behind, she leaned toward my ear and whis

Before Sally could even speak, the judge granted Bruce's request. The screen thus lit up with the scene of the crash, a piece of memory they'd first extracted from my mind.I had been cruising steadily on the expressway when my brakes suddenly failed. No matter how hard I pressed the brake pedal, nothing happened. The speedometer shot past a hundred as my car lunged straight toward the vehicle ahead. I slammed the horn repeatedly. The moment I did, the car in front suddenly braked. I had no choice but to swerve my car to the side to avoid hitting it. As a result, my car crashed into the guardrail. From the sheer momentum, the vehicle lurched forward until it skidded to a stop right at the edge of a cliff. My mind instantly went blank. I turned my head toward Bruce and Sean, who were a safe distance away, desperately calling for help. But they were frozen in shock, too terrified to move. The sturdy vehicle shook like a leaf in the wind. Just then, Sally appeared like a knig

The screen went dark again before switching to another memory. Now, my memory of the Grahams trying to wash my feet appeared on screen. From the crack of the bedroom door, I saw them slipping something into the boiling water as they prepared the foot bath. "I collected a whole month's worth of my classmates' dead skin. If Mom soaks her feet in this, she won't be able to go out tomorrow. Then, Sally can go to the amusement park with us!"Bruce flicked his son's forehead. "No doubt, you're Wanda's son—sneaky as hell. But what if she doesn't soak her feet?"Sean contemplated this for a while. "Then, I'll pretend to spill it over her head. If she accidentally drinks it, she'll definitely have diarrhea. No matter what, we cannot miss Sally's birthday tomorrow."I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply. Then, I went back to bed and gulped down more fever medicine. Moments later, Bruce and Sean entered with the basin of water.Since the impression of me pouring the water on them was stil

As the screen faded to black, the audience members exchanged bewildered looks. "What's going on? So all of that was staged by the Grahams from the start?""No way. How could this all be an act? They were actually scalded! If it were me, I'd have screamed even louder.""So what if it was an act? They probably had no choice. Wanda refused to leave with nothing, so they had to go that far. She's just so wicked that they couldn't stand her a moment longer."The live stream chat echoed the crowd's speculations. Even knowing it was staged, they still believed that Bruce and Sean must've had their reasons. I sneered, arms folded across my chest. "You bunch of blind idiots. Dealing with you all is such a waste of my time."The screen flickered, and the playback of my memories resumed. This time, it was clear that Bruce and Sean weren't satisfied with how the tea incident turned out. Perhaps they thought it wasn't strong enough evidence for a court proceeding. Thus, they decided to

Outside the study, I felt utterly cold. Bruce and Sean had chosen Sally over me many times before. I'd always been loud and upfront, so I'd exposed them on the spot every time—only to swallow my pride later for the sake of my son. Perhaps that was why they clung to that pretentious bitch even more. They didn't know how to see through her facade, so I tried to make them face reality. Yet, what I got in return was their accusations, saying that I was dramatic and always putting on a show for sympathy. I had been hurt a long time ago. If not for my son, I would've left Bruce years earlier. But now, even the last sliver of hope I had for Sean completely shattered. If they wanted to put on a performance, I'd play along. Masking my disappointment with the bright smile I plastered on my face, I opened the door. "Sean, love, come have some tea to warm yourselves up."As soon as they saw me, they avoided me like the plague. "Just set it down and go," Bruce said curtly, his back

I remembered it as a stormy night. By the time Bruce and Sean came home, they were soaked through. I fetched towels and told them to dry their hair and take a proper shower. "You two should dry off and wash up after. I'll make you some tea to warm up, or you'll catch a cold," I said. "How did you both get so wet? Didn't I tell you it might rain before you left? I even packed umbrellas for you."They said nothing in response and hurried into the bathroom instead. At the time, I'd assumed they'd left their umbrellas at the office and didn't press the subject. When I stepped into the kitchen, I saw Sally standing outside through the window. My heart lurched in my chest. She was waving her phone at me with a smile. In the next instant, my phone buzzed with a notification. I clicked on the message she sent, which revealed a photo of her with the Grahams at the cinema. They looked like a happy family together. "Old hag, you think you belong in the Graham family? Get out of her
