Chapter Eleven

Everyone who dared to stare at Julian's face scurried out of his path as he strolled the busy streets of London as if he controlled the city and the night. Others had just learnt that it was better not to provoke a guy who had been born into privilege and power but yet stalked the night with the lethal grace of a predator. Some of them had an innate ability to recognise a monster when they saw one.

All Julian could do to hold back a roar when a pasty-faced employee accidentally bumped his shoulder as he ducked out of his Threadneedle Street office. When the crowds gradually started to diminish, he knew he should be relieved, but the idea of them all running home to their warm fireplaces and waiting loved ones only made him angrier. Even Cuthbert's stiff company was not enough to cheer him up. The note with the intact wax seal that he had a footman deliver to his friend's home earlier in the day was given back to him.
