Lily’s POV

Holden leaned forward, his chest rising and falling fast. The violent purple light in his eyes seemed to burn through the pitch black tunnel.

Another deep, rumbling growl left his throat, shaking the concrete walls around us. He did not see me as Lily right now. He saw me as target practice. He looked ready to tear me into tiny pieces.

Holden, please, I said, my voice barely a whisper. I backed up until my shoulders hit the wet, freezing wall. You know who I am. Fight it.

Lily’s POVThe freezing white ice beneath my body did not feel cold anymore. In fact, everything felt completely different. I blinked, and the world became sharp. I could see every single scratch on the plastic barrier walls across the massive rink.I could hear the tiny drops of water falling from the ceiling blocks away. I could even smell the fear and sweat of every single person standing in the giant stadium.Holden stared down at me, his face a mix of pure joy and absolute shock. Lily, he whispered, his large hands still holding my cheeks. Your eyes.I sat up slowly, my head spinning from the sudden rush of power. I looked down at my hands. A faint, silver mist was dancing across my skin, warm and humming like a gentle engine. I felt stronger than I ever had in my entire life. The weakness from the black rock was completely gone. What is happening to me, I asked. My voice sounded different too. It was clearer, louder, and had a strange ring to it that made the pack warriors aroun

Holden’s POVThe cold from the ice rink was soaking through my jeans, but I did not care. The only thing that mattered was the freezing skin of the girl in my lap.Lily felt like a statue made of winter snow. Her fingers were stiff, and her lips were losing their warm pink color.Heavy footsteps crunched against the wet ice. I did not look up, but the familiar, powerful scent tells me it was my father.Alpha Thomas Vance knelt down in the slush right next to me. He placed his massive hand on my trembling shoulder. His golden eyes were dim with a deep sadness as he looked at Lily’s quiet face.Behind him, the rest of the Blood Moon pack warriors stood in a wide circle around us, lowering their heads in absolute silence.Holden, my father said, his booming voice remarkably soft and gentle for the first time in my life. She is gone, son. She gave her life to break the relic and save our people. We must honor her sacrifice, but you have to let her go.No, I growled, my voice rough and bre

Holden’s POVThe world went completely quiet. The sounds of the fighting pack, the shouting townspeople, and the dripping water from the melting ice all vanished. The only thing I could focus on was the girl in my arms.Lily was not moving. Her beautiful eyes were closed, and her face was totally blank. I kept my hand pressed against her warm neck, waiting for that familiar, steady thumping sound.Nothing. There was no pulse. Her chest was completely still. My fated mate was dead. She had taken a brutal hit meant for my head, using her own human body to save mine.Something broke inside my soul. It felt like a giant, burning tear ripped through my chest, letting out a monster that had been locked away for a thousand years. The fated mate bond did not just wake up. It exploded with a violent, terrifying power.A loud, cracking sound echoed through my bones. My muscles began to expand, ripping right through the fabric of my varsity sports jacket. My claws grew longer, sharper, and stron
