Hidden Recordings

Lila's POV

The door creaked open and I breathe slowly, my heart thudding painfully against my ribs.

I expected Blake or who else would come to his study at the hour.

My fingers tingled from where they’d just let go of the shelf I held tightly, and I could feel a bead of sweat running down the back of my neck. Every inch of me was tense, frozen in place like prey sensing the predator was near.

A shadow moved across the floor, long and narrow.

My lungs caught a shallow breath. Seeing the figure that came in, a sense of relief rushed over me like a wave, flooding my limbs with weak gratitude and I came out of where I was hiding.

Then a soft gasp broke the silence.

“Oh! Miss Lila—” came a startled voice.

It was Mina. The newest housekeeper. She held a folded rag in one hand and a tray of nail paint bottles against her hip with the other. She had her dark hair pulled back into a neat bun.

She looked more shocked than I did.

Her eyes quickly went to the desk behind me an

Desperate GambleDamian’s POVThe night dragged on like a slow bleed.Leo and I had been in the living room for more than an hour without moving. The only light coming in was from the laptop screen and the soft glow of the city hitting the windows. The air felt heavy—thick with silence and waiting.Standing on the couch edge, Leo held his phone and laptop in each hand. As I stood by the window with my arms crossed, I looked at the city as if it could tell me what to do.“We should’ve heard something by now,” I said, but my voice wasn't as loud as I thought it would be.Leo didn’t look up. “She’s probably double-checking the upload. She will get back to us soon.”I nodded, but my stomach had other ideas. A dull ache had formed inside me since the drive left our hands. And with every minute that passed, the ache spread like poison. As I walked around the room again, my soft steps echoed off the polished wood.“I should’ve gone myself,” I muttered under my breath “And she wouldn’t ha

The Evidence SwapDamian’s POVThe press conference was everywhere. Both on TV and online. Even the radio hosts were arguing about whether my sudden proposal to Lila was a real thing or just a publicity stunt. It doesn't matter to me what they thought. The noise wasn't for them. The noise was for me to block out the chaos, protect Eliot, and to push Aaron’s threats into the shadows.People forgot half already forgot about Eliot's arrest, because my engagement to Lila was now the talk of the town. And that was all I needed to carry out my plan.Leo tossed a flash drive between his fingers like it was a coin.“One bullet,” he said as he walked over to where I sat slouched on the edge of the leather couch. “And everything goes off.”I caught it in the air. The cool metal bit into my palm. It wasn't as light as it looked.“This is the only copy, right?” I asked.Leo gave me a look. "Please. I'm not new to this. I have back-ups in places that not even you can guess. That should have made

SmokescreenDamian’s POVI left Aaron standing by that fountain like a ghost. The night air cut through me as I walked with my hands clenched and my anger rising through my skin. I couldn't get rid of the poison in his words. The city was quiet by the time I got back to the penthouse. But everything inside me screamed.I kicked the door shut behind me and dropped my keys on the console. I wasn't even aware of the sound reverberating through the room. My hands were still trembling from Aaron’s final words. His voice haunted every step I took.“And if that is the case. Then I'll make sure he dies in jail." Leo stood next to the bar, typing something on his laptop. As soon as I walked in, he looked up and frowned.“You are late." There was no stress in his words, but the way he put down the laptop showed that he knew something was wrong. “Wanna tell me why you suddenly left without saying anything about your destination?"I didn’t answer. I just walked to the bar cart, poured myself

Aaron's ObsessionDamian’s POVLong lines of light from the city shone across the marble floor of my penthouse, flickering against the glass like silence alarms.Leo sitting across from me, still messing around with the encrypted drive. The voice recording was ready on the screen in front of us. It was proof that could burn the truth into the world in less than five minutes if we wanted it to. But I hadn’t given Leo the word.I couldn't help but stare at my phone.I could still hear Aaron's voice from our last call. The way he knew what I was about to do. Not only did I have the recording, but that I was preparing to use it.How did he find out? Apart from me, Leo and Lila, no one else knows about this. That meant...I moved around in my seat and made fists with my hands on my legs.Could one of them be feeding him information about my moves? That doesn't make sense. But how else can I explain this?“Leo,” I said, slowly. He raised his eyes from the screen. "Yes?"“Don't send anyth

The Rescue PlanDamian’s POVThe city was quiet again.Outside my windows, the city blinked like a heart monitor. It was cold and far away. But inside the penthouse, it felt like every surface was tense and vibrating.I could still hear the voice recording over and over in my mind. Blake's arrogant voice and Aaron's greasy charm. Everything was planned by them—torn Eliot down, turned me into a weapon, and nearly destroyed both of us.I stared at the flash drive on the coffee table for a while. Its small black body shone in the light. That piece of plastic held the truth. But truth alone wasn’t enough anymore.I needed help.I called the only person who had always been there for me.Twenty minutes later, Leo showed up with his jacket only half-zipped and sleepy eyes.As he walked in and closed the door behind him, he said, "You look like hell."“I feel worse,” I replied, motioning for him to sit.I played the tape for him without saying another word.He didn’t interrupt. He just lean

Trial by FireDamian’s POVI couldn't keep the tie in my hand straight.I had already done it three times, but each time the knot got tighter. Crooked. Off center. As if my body was resisting the idea of stepping into that glittering room–acting like nothing had happened or was going on in my life. The mirror didn't lie. I looked worn out. I had forgot to shave, so there was a light shadow on my jaw, and my eyes—God, my eyes—looked empty, like I hadn't slept in days. And if course I hadn't.I sat on the edge of the bed and threw the tie to the side. Let the so called gala wait. I needed five minutes to think. Five minutes to breathe..My phone buzzed from the nightstand, distrupting my solemn rest.I reached to it, only to see a message.“Don’t trust anyone. I’m coming back.”My eyes widened. I rubbed my palm on my face to see if I was imagining it. But it was truly him.Eliot.The message glowed like it had been made from light, searing and quiet and unmistakable.I sat up straig
