Attempt to Make Things Right

Eliot's POV

I knew immediately I got out of the taxi.

The street in front of the Bennett estate was lit up like a red carpet opening. There were limos lining the curb, and uniformed staff led guests through strings of golden lights. There was a lot of perfume in the air, laughter, and the kind of fake happiness that only people from high society can pull off.

It was a gala night.

Of course it was. What else could explain why they were all here.

I paid the driver with shaky hands, and I could barely hear his thank-you as he drove off. When I got close to the house, my shoes scraped against the sidewalk. Before me, it was like a palace: big, bright, and rotten to its core.

I strengthened my coat and took a deep breath to calm the storm in my chest, and climbed as soon as I got to the marble steps.

Obviously, Blake would pull off a stunt tonight, and whatever he had, I would make sure it didn't go as he had hoped.

The front hall was lit up with warm ora

SmokescreenDamian’s POVI left Aaron standing by that fountain like a ghost. The night air cut through me as I walked with my hands clenched and my anger rising through my skin. I couldn't get rid of the poison in his words. The city was quiet by the time I got back to the penthouse. But everything inside me screamed.I kicked the door shut behind me and dropped my keys on the console. I wasn't even aware of the sound reverberating through the room. My hands were still trembling from Aaron’s final words. His voice haunted every step I took.“And if that is the case. Then I'll make sure he dies in jail." Leo stood next to the bar, typing something on his laptop. As soon as I walked in, he looked up and frowned.“You are late." There was no stress in his words, but the way he put down the laptop showed that he knew something was wrong. “Wanna tell me why you suddenly left without saying anything about your destination?"I didn’t answer. I just walked to the bar cart, poured myself

Aaron's ObsessionDamian’s POVLong lines of light from the city shone across the marble floor of my penthouse, flickering against the glass like silence alarms.Leo sitting across from me, still messing around with the encrypted drive. The voice recording was ready on the screen in front of us. It was proof that could burn the truth into the world in less than five minutes if we wanted it to. But I hadn’t given Leo the word.I couldn't help but stare at my phone.I could still hear Aaron's voice from our last call. The way he knew what I was about to do. Not only did I have the recording, but that I was preparing to use it.How did he find out? Apart from me, Leo and Lila, no one else knows about this. That meant...I moved around in my seat and made fists with my hands on my legs.Could one of them be feeding him information about my moves? That doesn't make sense. But how else can I explain this?“Leo,” I said, slowly. He raised his eyes from the screen. "Yes?"“Don't send anyth

The Rescue PlanDamian’s POVThe city was quiet again.Outside my windows, the city blinked like a heart monitor. It was cold and far away. But inside the penthouse, it felt like every surface was tense and vibrating.I could still hear the voice recording over and over in my mind. Blake's arrogant voice and Aaron's greasy charm. Everything was planned by them—torn Eliot down, turned me into a weapon, and nearly destroyed both of us.I stared at the flash drive on the coffee table for a while. Its small black body shone in the light. That piece of plastic held the truth. But truth alone wasn’t enough anymore.I needed help.I called the only person who had always been there for me.Twenty minutes later, Leo showed up with his jacket only half-zipped and sleepy eyes.As he walked in and closed the door behind him, he said, "You look like hell."“I feel worse,” I replied, motioning for him to sit.I played the tape for him without saying another word.He didn’t interrupt. He just lean

Trial by FireDamian’s POVI couldn't keep the tie in my hand straight.I had already done it three times, but each time the knot got tighter. Crooked. Off center. As if my body was resisting the idea of stepping into that glittering room–acting like nothing had happened or was going on in my life. The mirror didn't lie. I looked worn out. I had forgot to shave, so there was a light shadow on my jaw, and my eyes—God, my eyes—looked empty, like I hadn't slept in days. And if course I hadn't.I sat on the edge of the bed and threw the tie to the side. Let the so called gala wait. I needed five minutes to think. Five minutes to breathe..My phone buzzed from the nightstand, distrupting my solemn rest.I reached to it, only to see a message.“Don’t trust anyone. I’m coming back.”My eyes widened. I rubbed my palm on my face to see if I was imagining it. But it was truly him.Eliot.The message glowed like it had been made from light, searing and quiet and unmistakable.I sat up straig

The AwakeningEliot’s POVThe soft tap on the hotel window from the rain made me feel like it knew how fragile my thoughts had become. In the last two days, I hadn't moved around much. My body barely existed on cheap instant coffee and silence. The curtains were only half open, but there was still enough light to tell me of the time, even though I didn't care. I couldn't deny what I saw: Damian with Aaron, the person who had broken me and now seemed to be moving into Damian's space like it was his own.I sat on the armchair across from the bed, my legs folded beneath me, arms tucked tight around my chest. The screen of my phone was dark and silent as it sat on the table. I hadn't turned it off; I had only turned off all the alerts that could drag me back to that moment. The moment I saw Damian lean in.The moment everything in cracked. When Lila visited me the other, I wasn't surprised that she knew where I was since she was the only one who still checked in and knew me better th
