Lila’s Breakdown

Damian’s POV

The sunlight leaked in through the curtains of my small apartment, casting long slants across the tiles. The ceiling fan made noise as it turned slowly, doing little to cool the afternoon heat. My shirt stuck to my back, and the stuffy air clung to everything like a second skin. This wasn’t the world I grew up in, I missed the penthouse with panoramic views, the sparkling marble floors, the quiet hush of money. But this was my reality. And it pressed against me like a constant reminder of everything I had lost.

A soft knock jolted me out of my thoughts.

I dragged my tired legs off of the couch and blinked away the heavy feeling in my chest. I opened the door gently, and there she was—Lila. She seemed to be a paradox in flesh. Her lipstick was flawless with sharp heels. But her eyes were filled with something she was trying too hard to hide.

“Hey,” she said quietly, not even offering a smile.

“Hi,” I replied as I stepped aside. “Come in.”

She came in

TargetedDamian’s POVThe ringing in my ears hadn’t stopped.Even after the shot, the screams, and the broken glass, there was only the dull thrum of adrenaline coursing through my body.I stayed low as before, one arm wrapped tight around Eliot’s shoulders, my other hand pressed to the floor now as if I could hold us both down. His body was rigid under mine with his breath shallow but steady. But I felt the tension in him like a pulse. The sounds of chaos had slowed down around us. Someone kept yelling at everyone to calm down. Then there was silence again. No more shots. The guards at the building rushed in, armed and ready. Their voices were clear and authoritative. People who had been hiding behind pillars and chairs slowly stood up, as if they weren't sure if they were going to safety or getting shot again."Everyone stay calm!" came the voice of a guard. The area is being secured!"Another cop walked right up to us. He had a square jaw and a clean black uniform. "Are you

The RejectionEliot’s POVI didn’t sleep. Not because I wasn't sleepy, but I couldn’t.The silence in the holding cell wasn’t peaceful; it was thick and pressed against my skin like the walls were closing in on me.My fingers itched from the cold. I rubbed them together slowly, trying to get rid of the sting in my knuckles. I hadn’t eaten anything either. I had lost my appetite.Because I knew she would come back. The envelope was sitting on the far side of the bench, unopened. Its white surface was dirty with dust, which could have been caused by hesitation. I hadn't opened it yet. I didn't have to. Because I already knew what was inside.I had already seen the contract once before. Vera’s terms were simple: her money in exchange for my silence. Her protection in exchange for my disappearance and leaving everything behind. Her leash in exchange for my freedom. But I also knew what signing it would mean.Damian would be alone again. And the words she left behind last night hadn’t

Desperate MeasuresDamian’s POVAs I stepped out of the building, the cold wind hit me in the face. But I barely felt it.In fact I couldn’t feel much of anything. Just the weight of everything pressing down like iron.Ten million dollarsIt wasn't just a bail condition. It was a message. And it was meant to break me.I squished my hands into the pockets of my coat pockets and gripped the lining like I could force myself to stay together. But it wasn’t working.Eliot was still there. Still behind that wall. And I had nothing left to give. This was Maxwell's doing, no doubt. The moment I dared to question him, he pulled the strings he had been tightening around my neck for years. And now, I was broke in every way that counted.Except in the part that mattered most.I wasn’t done fighting. I won't back down this way.Lila found me standing alone by the concrete planter near the exit, my eyes fixed on nothing in particular. She didn't say anything right away. She just stood next to me w

Shackled HeartsDamian’s POVThe door to the hall opened with a click that was too soft for the chaos it carried. And Eliot walked in.Even though the sound of the handcuffs wasn't very loud, it shook my chest like thunder. His clothes were simple. He wore the same dark sweater he always wore around the apartment when things were soft, quiet, and easy. But now, nothing about him looked like he belonged to that world anymore. His shoulders were stiff, not out of defiance, but because he was holding back.Every inch of him was tense, like the walls would fall in if he moved too fast.Maybe they already had.He didn't look for me in the room.He didn’t need to.His eyes were focused, cold, controlled. But I knew better.I could see the storm just under his skin. Each of his steps was filled with pain with fear disguised as composure. He took his seat beside his defense attorney. The cuffs were taken off for just long enough for him to calm down, and then they were put back on.Even that

The Broken MaskDamian’s POVThe hallway outside the boardroom felt colder than it should have. Each step was louder than the last, and the sound bounced off the tall glass walls like a bell. The slow, sharp thud of my heart matched the pain in my chest. My hands were getting sweaty. My jaw got really tight. But I kept my back straight.I wasn’t here to hesitate.I wasn’t here to ask.I was here to end this.I could hear controlled, calm, and measured voices coming from behind the tall double doors. The kind of voices I had grown up with. The kind of people who never raised their voice, but with one word, they could destroy lives. They didn’t know I was coming.I pushed the doors open with both hands. And the silence hit like a slap.Twelve heads turned at the same time. And the boardroom got cold. The air shifted, heavier now. No one moved, not even to blink. The long conference table was neatly arranged, water glasses untouched, thick folders stacked in front of suits worth more th

I Chose LoveDamian POVThe moment Maxwell left the room, the silence was heavier than before. It wasn't just quiet; it was also sharp. Like the air had been scraped clean of hope, it was thick with something cold and unseen. My hands were shaking a little as they touched the sheets. Even though my body was still, I felt like I was falling apart inside. His words weren’t loud. They didn’t need to be.“You were never meant to interfere in this.” He didn't scream or make threats. He just spoke quietly. And somehow, it hurt more than if he’d screamed.Since he didn't say it like a warning. It sounded like a disappointment from him.The door clicked again, this time it was too loud, too real. I jerked.Leo walked in quickly, his eyes moving back and forth between me and the heart monitor. When he saw my face, he stopped moving.I must have looked...haunted. I didn't know it until I saw his face. He took a slow step toward the bed and asked, "What happened?"I didn’t answer right
