LOGINSabrina’s Pov
"Bull's eye!" Valentina rejoiced behind me. I lowered the gun, turned to her, and smiled. "You're so good at this thing." “It is your turn to come try it out," I winked at her after the first statement before dragging her forward as she tried to resist and handing her the gun. She held it and turned to me. "I just can't shoot, it's so impossible for me to hit the target.” I moved closer to her and helped her lift the gun from behind her. "Firm grip, look at the direction of the bull's eye, now point your gun in that direction, steady stance, and take a deep breath. Do not be shaky, and don't let your heartbeat distract you,” I instructed her before stepping aside so she could shoot. She eventually pulled the trigger, but she missed Bull's eye; she was so close to it. "I missed it again." She lamented "But you were so close to it, you've never been that close,” I entreated her to try again, which she did. "Bull's-eye, yes!" I yelled victoriously behind her as she hit the target. We hugged and jumped simultaneously like two-year-olds before a call interrupted us. "Hello, Inspector Perez." "Officer Sabrina, report to the office now, there's urgent work." "Okay, sir I'd be there in 15 minutes," Valentina looked at me with pouting eyes. "I'm so sorry, it's urgent, we'll continue this some other day. Come, let me drop you off at your art gallery.” We walked outside, I pounced on my bike, and she sat behind me as I drove off. Valentina is my cousin, I'm just 3 years older than her, she clocked 20 a few days ago. She has been my only friend and sister for the past 13 years. My mind wandered back to when I stayed in Rodrigo's den for two years; it felt like hell. I could escape, but I left my mother behind after she sacrificed herself for me. Tears filled my eyes as I remembered that night I escaped. It was a rainy night and mum had managed to bribe a guard with ‘good time’ growing up I realized exactly what she sacrificed for me to be free. We walked through a narrow road and was led to a short cut, just when I thought we were safe, we heard gun shots. We tried to get away from them, but they were closing in on us, mum gave me her necklace and embraced me tightly. “Run Sabrina, don't you turn back, you hear me?” My mom wiped my tears. “But mum, please don't leave me,” I cried trying to hold her tightly but she pushed me forward. “I will always be with you baby, now run!” I ran as fast as I could, I didn't stop till I met a good Samaritan who offered to take me to the police station, and I could contact aunt Carmen. Ever since that day, we have tried rescuing mum from Rodrigo, the police eventually gave up but I never did. I swore to become a detective and continue my search for my mum. After spending 2 years in Rodrigo's den, Rodrigo was so hard on me, he turned me into a slave every day with a few other kids he kidnapped as well, I doubt they ever got out like me. Now that I'm a cop, I appreciate the toughness Rodrigo took me through, I'm a lot tougher now and ready to repay his gesture. I dropped Valentina at her workplace and zoomed off to the station. I was such a badass rider, only Valentina and Aunty Carmen made me drive slowly, yet they'd plug into my jacket so tightly like their lives depended on it. I pulled up in front of the station, removed my helmet, and bounced inside. "Good day, boss," "Good day, Sanchez, where's your partner?" "Eerm, I didn't reach out to him, I just drove here as soon as possible," "I called him as well. We have a case of a kidnapped lady, and I suspect it's the drug mafia." "The drug mafia?" Martinez echoed from behind as he entered the office. We both turned in his direction. "Thank God you are here, Martinez, you guys are my best detectives, and you've been on this drug mafia's case for a while now, this new case may just be our lead." "Yes, boss, we'd take on this case. Let's have the details," Martinez confirmed before turning to me. "What do you say, Sanchez, you've been quiet." I was staring into space, the closer I got to apprehending Rodrigo, the more anxious and angry I got when I lost him. "Sanchez!" Martinez's yell jerked me back to the present. "Yes, I'm sorry, did I hear you say drug mafia? You mean Rodrigo?" "Yes, I think we might be able to nib him,". Inspector Perez added. "Great, let's do this," I replied with excitement. "You guys are my best guys, and I trust you to handle this and bring the girl safely," Inspector Perez admonished. "Trust us, boss," Martinez replied before parting my back as we turned to leave. Martinez walked me to my desk, he moved closer to me, and tucked my hair behind my ear. "Are you fine?" He asked in a hushed tone. "Of course I am, do I look pale?" "You were lost earlier in the boss's office." "It's nothing, I was just processing the case in my head," "Alright, I'm glad you're fine,” He said as he pulled out my chair for me to sit and pulled out another for himself. "Shall we?" He said as he pointed to the document he had just dropped on the table. I nodded in affirmation, and he smiled. After the death of my father, living as Sabrina Sanchez is the only thing that helps me remember my dad's face and the blood on my lips when Rodrigo shot him. I've rehearsed how I'd torture Rodrigo when I apprehend him, "I am Sabrina Sanchez, I bet you can't remember the face, not the name, you've wasted too many lives to remember that, but not anymore. Your worst mistake was killing my father right in my face. My father risked his life to cleanse the country of maggots like you, and I took over from where he stopped.” That was my rehearsed line; the sole aim of becoming a police officer is to get justice for my father and find my mother. "Sanchez, what do you think about this information?" Martinez asked. "It looks fishy, the evidence is obvious, they are similar to Rodrigo's raid, but something just seems off. I think we should visit the crime scene and question the mum a bit." I was getting closer to getting my revenge on Rodrigo.Sabrina's Pov I scrambled back on the bed, my dress was still bunched around my thighs.Santiago stood there, gun lowered with his chest rising and falling fast. Blood splatter dotted his unbuttoned shirt. He looked at the two bodies in the doorway, then back at me, eyes dark and unreadable. “Sabrina, breathe, it is over, they’re down.”“Down?” I laughed, sharp and hysterical. “You just shot three men like it was nothing. How did you even…… where did that gun come from? Under my bed? Who the hell are you?”He moved fast but careful, stepping over the first body to check the hallway. “Clear,” he muttered, then pulled out his phone and dialed with one hand, “Yeah, it’s me. Two down at my current location. Send a crew now. No, don’t ask questions, just make it quiet and fast.” He hung up and turned to me. “Backup’s coming to clean this up.”I snatched the lamp off the nightstand, ripping the code from the wall, and held it like a bat. My hands shook but I didn’t lower it. “Backup? You h
Sabrina's PovMartinez didn’t ask me to sit. He just shut the door and leaned against his desk, arms crossed like the weight of the precinct was pressing down on his shoulders.“They got to him,” he said.My chest squeezed so tight I had to remind myself to breathe. “When?”“An hour ago, there was a shift change and just freaking five minutes of blind cameras.” His voice was low, tired. “Security footage? Wiped clean, like it never happened.”“No, that cell is locked down tighter than a vault.” I stepped closer, palms slapping the desk. “How the hell did they pull that off?”“That’s what’s eating me,” Martinez muttered. “Cause of death was strangulation or even any sign of struggle. He looked… resigned, like he saw it coming.”“Rodrigo,” I whispered.Martinez gave a single nod. “it had to be.”“Did anyone see anything useful?”“Nothing, one guard mentioned a power flicker.” Martinez’s eyes narrowed. “You didn’t answer your phone earlier.”“I was at the hospital.”Rage and fear crashed
Sabrina's Pov I left the precinct earlier than planned. I needed to see Tina again, even if she was still half asleep and barely speaking. I needed proof she was still here. My mind kept looping through everything the man had said.I tried focusing on the steps in front of me, on the sidewalk, on anything that didn’t feel like it was pressing down on my chest. But I was too caught up in my own thoughts, too busy trying to figure out what Rodrigo’s next move might be.Which is probably why I didn’t notice anyone walking toward me until it was too late.I bumped straight into a solid chest.“Oh, Sabrina,” a familiar voice said as a hand wrapped gently around my arm to steady me. “Be careful.”I looked up quickly. “Santiago?”He smiled a little, still holding onto me for a second before letting go. “You okay? You looked miles away.”“Yeah, I was just deep in thoughts,” I muttered, brushing my hair back. “Clearly,” he said with a soft laugh. “You almost knocked yourself out.”I rolled m
Sabrina’s PovMartinez walked me down the hallway in silence. When we reached the small interrogation room, he stopped and looked at me like he wasn’t sure if letting me in was a good idea.“I’m here now, let me talk to him.”He opened the door. The man sat cuffed to the table, bruised and staring straight at me the moment I walked in. He looked too relaxed for someone caught in the middle of an attempted murder case.“There she is,” he said, smiling like we were old friends.I pulled the chair out and sat. “Start talking.”“No warm greeting?” he teased. “You detectives are all the same.”“You asked for me, and here I am, so talk.”He tilted his head. “I heard your cousin pulled through. Tough girl.”My jaw clenched. “Don’t mention her.”He shrugged, almost amused. “You can’t handle hearing her name? That’s interesting.”Martinez stepped behind me, shoulders tense. “Cut the attitude and answer her.”The man leaned forward a little. “Rodrigo told me you’d show up just like this. Straig
Sabrina’s Pov I had stood outside in the freezing night, shifting my gaze from one passing vehicle to another. I know who I saw, I know it was Rodrigo. “Excuse me, miss?” I turned to look at the clueless nurse. “Miss Sabrina,” I refused to shift my focus from the road. “I was asked to get your signatures on this paper.” I signed it quickly. My heart ached so badly I was hallucinating, but if it was Rodrigo, then this is just the beginning. Tina laid in bed, she looked so calm but I could still see she was in pain. I stood near Tina’s bed, rubbing her stiff hands together. The machines beeped softly, reminding me she was still here. Barely, but here. “I’m so sorry, Tee,” I whispered softly as if she would wake up if I spoke too loudly and I knew she needed rest. “I should’ve protected you. I should’ve been there.” Her eyes were closed. She couldn’t hear me, but saying the words still burned my throat. I pulled the chair closer and sat, leaning forward with my elbows on t
Sabrina’s PovI couldn’t believe what I heard. I felt my entire world pause. While my phone was still pressed to my ear, I slowly turned to face Santiago . “My sister…” I whispered.“What about her?” He asked, with concern all over his face.My voice was trembling. “She’s been shot, I need to go to the hospital right now.” Santiago 's expression, which showed he was longing for something more, was now filled with alarm. He didn’t wait for me to say any more words before dressing up. We both sensed the urgency.“Which hospital was she taken to?” I asked over the phone, tring to keep my breath steady. I could feel my heart pounding so fast which made it hard for me to hear the reply. “H. Jude Hospital. She was brought here not long ago, and she’s unconscious due to the large amount of blood she has lost.” I didn’t want to hear all of that over the phone, so I hung up quickly.I turned, surprised to see Santiago fully dressed; his earlier desire was now replaced with concern. “I wil
Sabrina’s PovThe sound of the gunshot made me cover my ears and shut my eyes. Blood splashed on my face, the first time I tasted someone else's blood. I touched my blood-stained lips and wiped the blood off. The next thing I saw was my dad's brain splattered everywhere in our sitting room."Dad!"
Sabrina’s PovMartinez had dragged me out in the night to a club all in search of Rodrigo, the drug mafia. I know I said I'd do anything to get Rodrigo, but right now I just want to go back to my bed. My body still hurts from my encounter with Santiago .Martinez appeared in a stylish suit with an
Sabrina’s PovThe thing about working on a case is that you don't determine how your day will go; you can get intel at any time. I was heading home after a long day, before I suddenly jerked forward and fell off the bike as a car almost crashed into me from behind. I turned and saw a car stuck to t
