Olivia had not yet reacted when she was thrown into the car. Nathaniel closed the door, and the driver directly drove away in haste!
"Nathaniel? What are you doing?"
"What am I doing? Are you going to stay there and make a fool of yourself? When did you become jealous, playing tricks in such a setting? Do you know who Kate is?"
Nathaniel glared angrily, his eyes filled with a flame that could burn her to ashes at any moment.
In their half-year marriage, he barely spoke to her kindly. Even though they saw each other every day, it was always in the office. Even when he needed her, he seemed reluctant.
"She's just an actress, right?"
"An actress?" Nathaniel reached over and gripped Olivia's chin, looking at her with a sarcastic expression, "Then what are you?"
"Hmph!" Olivia let out a cold laugh, fearlessly meeting Nathaniel gaze,
"That depends on what you consider yourself to be, Nathaniel."
Nathaniel, instead of being angry, laughed and released his hold on her, then pulled out a tissue from aside to wipe his hands, "Olivia, I never realized until now how eloquent you are. You really know how to pretend!"
"It's not about me pretending. I don't love you anymore, I don't care about your feelings, just as you have never loved me, not even caring about my happiness or sadness for a single moment!"
Slowly, she withdrew her gaze, the indisputable sadness in her eyes, like an engulfing tidal wave, choked her without giving an opportunity to resist.
To stop loving... it really takes all the courage one can muster!
Nathaniel didn't say anything and didn't even bother to look at her, but his hands clenched tightly into fists. Since yesterday, she had been repeatedly saying that she didn't love him.
Funny, when did he, Nathaniel, ever need Olivia's love?
He never needed it!
"Let's get a divorce!" Seeing that Nathaniel remained silent, Olivia spoke up again.
"In your dreams! Stop the car!" Nathaniel shouted in rage.
The car came to a stop, and Olivia was once again pushed out of the car and left halfway on the road by him. This wasn't the first instance, and it wouldn't be the last.
Once, they had gone to a meeting together, and she didn't know what to say, ending up being abandoned in the mountains where she had to walk for three full days before a car came to pick her up.
And he! He was at a hotel, merrily enjoying himself with another woman! He had absolutely no concern for her wellbeing.
But she didn't keep walking, instead she sat down by the roadside, not even glancing at the car that sped away.
Yet Nathaniel inside the car kept his gaze on the receding figure; surprisingly, she did not follow him. "Stop the car!"
The driver quickly halted the vehicle.
"Go back!" He ordered.
However, by the time the driver reversed the car back to where he left Olivia, she was no longer there.
He didn't get out of his car, but scanned the surroundings only to find no trace of her. "Where has that damn woman gone?", he muttered.
Kelvin Ross quickly spun the steering wheel in his hands, the faint trace of a smile, hard to read, played at the corner of his mouth, "Why aren't you angry?"
"Why should I be angry?" Olivia raised her eyes and looked at him once, "It's not the first day he's treated me like this.
I'm not angry anymore, not sad, not upset, I plan to divorce him!"
"Squeak-!"
The sports car abruptly stopped, causing an unprepared Olivia to stagger, "What are you doing, Kelvin? Trying to scare me to death? I don't plan to die in a car crash!"
"Why do you suddenly want a divorce?", Kelvin asked worriedly.
From the time he got to know Olivia, he knew how much she loved Nathaniel.
So much so that she was willing to give up her own life for him. Divorce? He thought this was always proposed by Nathaniel.
"It's not sudden.
I just couldn't bear to do it before, sigh!" She sighed deeply, raised her eyes with a smile at the corner of her mouth, hiding her indescribable sadness,
"Help me find a lawyer from your family's law firm!"
"Do you really plan to divorce? Will Nathaniel agree?"
Kelvin started the car again, asking somewhat anxiously.
"Whether he agrees with it or not, it's none of my concern."
All I want now is a divorce!" Olivia leaned against the car, slowly closing her eyes. She had never been one to hide her emotions in front of friends, especially in front of Kelvin.
Kelvin, her younger brother who could always see through her thoughts with just one look, as if she were transparent in front of him.
Kelvin looked at Olivia with sympathy in his eyes and remained silent, focusing on driving the car.
In the darkness, the lights in the Cross's residence were brightly lit. Olivia did not need to think to know that Nathaniel had come back, because only when he returned would all the lights in the house be turned on.
She took off her high heels.
The housekeeper had placed the slippers at the door early on, as if waiting for her return.
Nathaniel was sitting on a sofa not far away, and that position was within her sight as she walked in the door.
"Did you see Kelvin?"
"We ran into each other!"
Olivia knew that Nathaniel saw she was wearing Kelvin’s jacket, so he knew she had been with him. She hadn't intended to hide it.
"Ran into?"
Nathaniel remained calm, laughing at Olivia's words, yet there was no anger.
"Such good fortune, isn't it?"
Olivia looked at the smile on Nathaniel's face. Since their marriage, he had never really smiled at her this way.
She used to care, but not anymore. Even if he gave her such a smile now, it was no longer important to her.
She quickly walked past him, only to have her wrist grabbed tightly by him.
He gradually tightened his grip until she felt pain and wanted to pull her hand back,
"Nathaniel, let go?"
"Do you really want me to let go?" He asked.
His sharp eyes coldly raised an eyebrow. His teasing tone seemed to have a good understanding of Olivia's inner thoughts.
Olivia's face was getting paler, "Let go now!"
"Olivia, let me tell you, stop pretending to be modest in front of me. I know exactly the kind of person you are. If you miss my touch, just say so!"
Nathaniel pulled her directly to his side without a care if the servants or the housekeeper were present. He reached out for her dress!
Looking at the sinister smile on Nathaniel's face, and the slight, dangerously menacing aura that seemed on the brink of engulfing her, Olivia truly began to fear.
With a harsh push, she managed to fend him off, wrapping her arms protectively around herself.
"Nathaniel, are you sick? Are you out of your mind?"
she questioned anxiously.
"Am I? Yes, I must be sick, or else, why would I have married you? Olivia, let me tell you, from the very day Margaret Seth died, I've been sick to the core!" He seethed.
"Then go to hell!"
Olivia found herself screaming these words.
She had no idea why she lashed out in such a manner, only knowing that each time Nathaniel mentioned Margaret Seth, it felt like countless swords were piercing through her heart.
Who dared to say she no longer loved him? Who dared to claim she wasn't affected by his lingering affection for that other woman?
The early morning sun usually lit up Olivia’s room and signaled her usual rush to get ready for work. But, today was charmed. It was totally different. It was a deep voice that was warm, smooth and comforting that made her sink further into the pillows instead.Olivia was stunned, she was yet to process what the deep voice ringing in her ears. “I'm sure Nathaniel must be joking.”“Forget about work, Olivia. “Nathaniel’s breath tickled her ears once more, sending shivers down her spine. “I just want to spend the whole day with my beautiful wife without any distraction.” His arm tightened around her waist, pulling her flush against him. “I’ve missed you so much.”Olivia’s eyes snapped open. Her heart hammered against her ribs, Missed her? Beautiful wife? Her mind replayed his words, searching for a hidden meaning but couldn't find. It felt too good to be true. This cannot be Nathaniel, it'd be a random joke. “What?!” The word burst from her, a breathless whisper of disbelief. Her bo
The strange ceiling above him was the first thing Nathaniel saw. His eyes opened and closed, attempting to adjust to the soft morning light. He lay motionless, attempting to understand his surroundings. His eyes darted from one thing to the other in the room, examining the mirror, wardrobe door, ceiling, and makeup on the dresser. It was all unfamiliar. He sat up slowly, the sheets falling away from his bare chest. His shirt was lying on the floor, partially stained in what looked like alcohol. His eyes widened, lips parted in shock. Still trying to get a glimpse of what was really happening. Where the hell am I? How do I get here? The last memory he could grasp was clinking glasses with a stranger in a bar. Before he could piece together another thought, the bathroom door clicked open. Steam rolled into the room, followed by the sharp scent of citrus soap. Then came Kate, wrapped in a towel, her red lipstick fresh, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction.“Good morning, my love.” Her
Olivia was shocked and became weak at the same time. Thousands of thoughts flowed in her mind, but she didn't have time to dwell on them as she quickly grabbed her bag and stormed out of the Cross mansion. Before she could reach outside, he was already gone. She thought of taking one of the cars, but she knew she couldn't drive in her perplexed state, so she decided to go for a cab instead.Olivia was panicked and in a hurry. She quickly took out her phone and ordered a cab.Luckily, one showed up just two minutes later. Without wasting time, she hurriedly opened the back door and slipped in.“Hello, please drive as fast as you can because I must be at Cross Enterprises in the next five minutes.”“Five minutes?” the driver asked, looking back at her in shock.Olivia stayed silent, and without another word, he turned back and started the engine. The car sped forward at such a high speed, it felt as though it were soaring through the air.Olivia held tightly to her seat as buildings and
Kelvin had thought Nathaniel found out about the divorce, and Olivia backed off because Nathaniel must have threatened her.Kelvin had hoped to help Olivia escape Nathaniel’s hold, but his heart sank when he unexpectedly received a text from her saying she could no longer go through with the divorce.“You threatened her because she wanted to divorce you. Olivia deserves so much more than a pathetic woman abuser like you. You’re nothing but a disgrace, and I’ll make damn sure she escapes your toxic grip for good.” Kelvin said angrily, his eyes burning with anger.Nathaniel replied coldly, “Divorce?" He was shocked to find out that Olivia was planning to divorce him, and that made him more furious. But he quickly masks it, saying, "I didn’t realise Olivia’s little errand boy had such a mouth.”Kelvin smirked, “She is not meant for your type, Nathaniel. Do you know who you really deserve? You deserve a crazy being like you. She gave you her heart, but you shattered it. She told me she r
Olivia was shocked. She wondered how Nathaniel got to know she was on birth control pills. Has he found out where the pills are usually kept? Several thoughts drifted through her mind. Confusion could be visibly seen on her face.“Oh, you wondered how I got to know you are using pills? Well, even if I'm silent, just know that I know you well and I know each of your moves and every step you plan to take.”Olivia remained silent. Still looking confused.Nathaniel brought out his phone. “Well, I can see how confused you are. Nathaniel swiftly brought out his phone and pressed it for a few seconds before handing it over to Olivia.“Have it.” She received it.It was a video of Olivia, who was captured while using her birth control pills through a CCTV camera that was secretly placed in her room by Nathaniel. As she was watching the footage, her hands trembled. She was shocked. She looked at Nathaniel in disbelief.“Have you been invading my privacy by setting a CCTV camera in my room wi
Olivia is inwardly thrilled when Nathaniel sits beside her and says, “Let’s start over. I want us to be a real family.”She was shocked at first; she looked at Nathaniel straight in the eye to see if truly those words came directly from him.“Nathaniel, are you kidding me right now, or do you just want to play with my emotions? Because right now I'm not ready for further heartbreak.”“Baby, I meant every word I said, and I’m not going to take any of it back. I want a real family with you from now and I promise to be a better husband to you and a loving father to our unborn child.” He planted a soft kiss on her lips. The soft kiss sent a chill down her spine, and she even wanted more. The joy she felt inwardly could not be quantified. To her, the sudden change of everything seemed surreal. She felt her heart swell with hope, thinking maybe last night meant something.“Give me a few minutes; I will be right back.”Nathaniel went to his bedroom and came back with a brown envelope. He ope
